BOUT 26 new police constables have been temporary deployed in Matatiele to fight crime during the festive season. The police recruits successfully graduated from the Saps Basic Police Development Learning Programme recently. The Eastern Cape has received 570 new police officers and deployed them all over the province. “These police officers will enhance police visibility in central business districts, holiday destinations, parks and in public areas to fight crime,” said Saps spokesperson Captain, Raphael Motloung. 10TH annual fish­ ing competition was held at Clive Dam in Swartberg last weekend. The competi­ tion started on Friday and on Saturday prizes were given for big catch­ es. Organisor Billy Bell said the competition is in honour of the late Ne­ ville Underwood and Ken Gobey. Money col­ lected will go for various charities around Kok­ stad. A local fisherman, David Bergover who has more than 30 years fish­ ing experience but only managed to catch one small fish. Lucano Bloem re­ ceived top prize for a 2,36kg catch, Lucan Blo­ em received the second prize for 2,2kg and Clay­ ton Wiggett came third for a 2,1kg catch. Organisors thanked sponsors and partici­ pants for the success and said another com­ petition will be an­ nounced next year.
