A number of reasons to celebrate MANY people either look forward to the festive pe riod and begin their countdown to Christmas in Oc tober, while others are left running for the hills to avoid the ‘silliness’ that comes with the season. As we get ready to wind down and take a breath er, we decided to reflect on some of the wonderful reasons to celebrate the year that was. Yes, we can talk about some of the lowlights as well (no pun on the word ‘lights’), but that would not be very festive at all. The team at the Fever has had a wonderful year and has shared some truly remarkable memories with you. We’ve had an actionpacked year from meeting wonderful individuals who are slowly changing their communities one step at a time to covering campaigns that shows a proactive community who are willing to fight for their beloved home towns. To those people who are continuously going the 1 x 750ml
extra mile to serve others, we would like to salute you and thank you for allowing us to share your sto ries. This year South Africans voted hoping for the best – many are now glued to the parliament ses sion coverage because you never know what to ex pect. In 2015 we will be joining the queues for the byelections and once again, hoping for positive change. We know we live in a beautiful city and another reason to be a proud Durbanite is Durban has been voted an official new Seven Wonder City of the world. The picturesque beaches, rolling hills and breathtaking skyline together with a host of won derful inhabitants, sets us apart from the rest of South Africa. After 40 years, the Miss World title is held by xa 750ml South African.
Rolene Strauss was crowned Miss World at the weekend and now features in a long list of remarka ble women who continue to make a difference to the countries they live in and the world. South Africans also took time through out the year to remember Nelson Mandela and do their bit to fulfill his legacy. It’s been a year since his death and many ques tioned the stability and patriotism of South Afri cans. The good news is, it seems as if communities are now more united than ever. Many believe his spirit still lives on calling it a sprinkling of ‘Madiba magic’. Clearly South Africans will continue to make great strides despite the negative news that some times comes to the fore. The Fever would like to wish all our fantastic cli ents and readers a wonderfully happy festive sea 6 x 440ml son and here’s to welcoming 2015 in style.

ANC bags victory in KZN >> Opposition parties fast climbing in popularity SABELO NSELE AND NEWS24

HE ANC was left bruised nationally and the DA energised, while the EFF emerged as kingmakers following one of the most hotly-contested elections in post-democratic South Africa. Support for the ruling party fell to below 60% of the votes for the first time since 1994, who only won outright majorities in metros; Buffalo City, Mangaung, and eThekwini. Despite many of its members breaking away and standing as independent candidates, the ANC managed to fend off competition from the opposition and hold on to eThekwini and Msunduzi. ANC bags victory in KZN SABELO NSELE AND NEWS24
Africans were the real victors, and their will prevailed, he said. “You have shown the world that South Africa is a thriving democracy where differences of political opinion and diverse political preferences are allowed to flourish,” he said in a speech at the IEC’s results centre in Pretoria.
P
resident Jacob Zuma struck a conciliatory tone and said the 2016 local government elections showed the world that democracy was thriving in South Africa. He congratulated all the parties, including those who gained new municipalities. South

His speech was overshadowed by an anti-rape protest by a group of women. As he spoke, they stood up and displayed placards with words recalling his rape trial 10 years ago. More drama followed when security guards shoved them away. DA leader Mmusi Maimane gave assurances that the party would not purge any civil servants in the metros where it would take over from the ANC. “The issue is not your political affiliation; the issue is about making sure that you have the best person to do the job. I’m not out there to purge. There’s this misinformed rumour that the DA is out to purge the municipality. That’s not true,” he said. Catch next week’s Weekly for more election news.

ANC sweeps Shaka's Head despite faction fighting THE controversial ward of Shaka's Head in KwaDukuza Municipality, where a councillor was ousted and replaced on the eve of local government elections, was retained overwhelmingly by the ANC. The removal of long-standing ANC councillor Jetro Banda made headlines when members of his community torched his car and house in February. Banda himself pointed to faction fighting in the party that created a chasm between nominated opponents, with the tensions resulting in him being exiled to a plush coastal
housing estate as he feared for his life. According to results released by the IEC on their election dashboard, the ANC retained the ward with an 85.24% majority, followed by the EFF with 8.02%. The victory for the ANC and the conclusion of the local government elections now means that Banda is no longer a sitting councillor, and will have to vacate his municipality sponsored home. - News24

Eskom warns against illegal strike as NUM downs tools >> “A lot of other entities or sectors will suffer...”
E
SKOM said on Monday the start of a wage strike had not yet affected operations at its 27 power stations. Spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe also reiterated Eskom's position that Eskom's employees were prohibited by law from striking. The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) earlier on Monday said its members at three Eskom power stations had downed tools. More workers were set to follow as the wage strike began, NUM said on Monday. Paris Mashego, NUM's energy sector coordinator, told Reuters that wage
talks with the utility were in deadlock over the weekend. Announcing the intention to strike on Monday, General Secretary David Sipunzi said on July 29 that an agreement on the union's demands it presented to Eskom were not met, following a mediation process through the CCMA. “Eskom's offer of 7% is an insult to hardworking Eskom workers, while keeping the lights burning,” said Sipunzi. "Eskom workers are unable to feed their families." Demands include a one year wage agreement, of 12% increase for maximum wage earners and a 13% increase for minimum wage earners.
Negotiations initially started at 18% for minimum wage earners and 16% for maximum wage earners, explained Paris Mashego, NUM Eskom sector coordinator. Other demands include occasional leave and selling of leave. “We sell seven days but only get paid five,” said Mashego. The union said that Eskom failed to address the apartheid wage gap of 50% between the minimum and maximum salary scale. “After 22 years of democracy, Eskom is still paying workers based on the apartheid system,” said Sipunzi. “White employees are still paid more than black people.”

“Eskom made a profit R4.6bn … Our members want to get a big share of profit made,” added Mashego. NUM has consulted with Solidarity Union, and they have agreed with the action to be taken, said Sipunzi. “A major stumbling block may be what Numsa plans to do… Numsa is in negotiations just to compete with NUM,” he said. In response to a question on how long the strike will continue, Sipunzi said: “We believe if government allows the strike to continue even longer than one day, it will cause damage to business and other sectors. “A lot of other entities or sectors will suffer, think of hospitals and other businesses that will run without electricity,” said Sipunzi. - Fin24

The union also demands a housing allowance of R5 000 per month. “Housing prices are increasing and Eskom workers can’t afford to pay for houses,” said Sipunzi. Those that do not have houses won’t be able to acquire houses in future, he explained. NUM's 14 824 members across all regions are prepared to strike, with or without the Minimum Service Agreement (MSA). “Eskom is using the absence of an MSA to prevent members using their constitutional right to strike,” said Sipunzi. “We don’t want the strike to last long. We want the strike to get results,” said Mashego. The announcement of the strike is to get government to listen to the union and to get Eskom’s leadership to reach an agreement with NUM, he said.

Entumeni Sugar Mill reunion THE community of Entumeni was a vibrant one, proudly existing in a rural area. It had its own orchestra, drama society and a sporting club. All religious and cultural events were observed. Every activity always received overwhelming support from the community. The residents regarded them-
selves as member of one big family. Sadly, the existence of the closely knit community was disrupted by the closure of the mill. This resulted in residents moving away to settle elsewhere. Many had expressed the desire to host a reunion of the community and so a reunion committee was formed and one was organised. A reunion of the community of Entumeni will now take place on Saturday, 13 August at the Eshowe Town Hall commencing at 10am. MAKHOSANDILE ZULU
T
HE Stanger Hospital launched a men’s forum recently which through dialogue among the members would assist its male staff to deal with social, economic and political issues that affect them personally. “The launch of the forum coincided with celebrating men and honouring them for the support that they give to their fellow female colleagues. “The men’s forum was formed to improve the health, relationships and wellbeing of men in the institution. Stanger Hospital events committee took the initiative to go this far because we all know that men are the head of a family, which means men contribute a lot in building a healthy family,” said Stanger Hospital public relations officer Pumla Mba. Motivational speaker Pastor Ngema was part of the proceedings to offer words of encouragement and guidance to the men. “Being strong is actually having the ability to seek help for the sake of our own lives and people who love and depend on us,” he said.
Men's forum launched at Stanger Hospital He encouraged all men to become responsible leaders of their families and to play a positive role in the communities and that they should strive for being the best in their places of work as well. KZN Department of Health men’s forum chairperson Mlungisi Ndlovu spoke about the importance of having one partner which, he said is a sign of respecting one’s own family. He discouraged men from engaging in cross-generational relationships, saying that this destroys families and further exacerbates the spread of HIV and AIDS.

MAKHOSANDILE ZULU THE Stanger Hospital partnered with a non-profit organisation the Maximum Output (MOP) Institute in a project to aid the Masibathande Care Centre. Founder of the MOP institute Dr Mhlanga said he co-founded the organisation with his wife with the intention of developing and raising
young people to become future leaders who would redress socio-economic issues in South Africa. “The organisation seeks to achieve its goal by hosting leadership seminars, motivational talks and career guidance sessions for young people,” he said. He said Masibathande Care Centre is a non-profit organisation that was established by Ms Nzungane in
LTMA to host maths relay JYOTHI LALDAS THE Lower Tugela Maths Association (LTMA) will host its annual maths relay/challenge on Friday, 19 August. The first round of the maths relay will be written at schools participating in the competition. The relay comprises non-routine problems catering for pupils from Grades three to seven.
President of the Lower Tugela Maths Association, Isaac Abraham said, to date more than 20 schools have submitted their entry forms, however due to the disruptions in schooling (due to the poor attendance because of the much-needed rains last month and the elections last week) there are schools who have not submitted their entry forms.

2011 which cares for children with disabilities such as Cerebral Palsy and Down syndrome. “Some of the children were unfortunately abandoned by their teenage parents because they could not care for them. Some of the children have been willingly placed by their parents who need assistance with caring for them. Ms Nzungane, moved by compassion for these children, opened the doors of her own home in order to care for these children,” said Mhlanga. He said Nzungane funds the care centre out of her own pocket and through the assistance she receives from Stanger Hospital social workers who ensure that the children have social grants. “Even with this assistance she still struggles to feed and meet the needs of these children and her house is starting to fall apart. That is why the Maximum out Put Institute partnered with Stanger Hospital to embark on an outreach project to assist this centre,” said Mhlanga. He said the aim of the partnership was to paint the interior of the four bedroomed house, repair facilities and donate food and clothes. “Christmas came early for the centre, they also received R14 000.00 and the food and clothing that was donated was valued at R8000.00. It was all donated by the Stanger Hospital’s staff members and the Maximum Output Institute,” he said.
Abraham said that an extension will be granted to these schools and all late entry forms must be given to Mr. T. Somduth at Stanger Manor Primary by Monday, 15 August. Abraham said that schools received past question papers and sample questions with memos. “Pupils who are able to solve all questions in the past two years’ papers and all sample questions will be adequately prepared for the first round of the 2016 competition,” said Abraham. No more permits for taxis in KZN THABANG MATHEBULA MOST of the taxis on KwaZuluNatal’s roads are not legal. As the South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) has announced they will stop issuing taxi permits in KZN, alarming figures have emerged, revealing that 20 000 of 35 000 minibus taxis on the prov ince’s roads are not certified to operate. The largest taxi regulator in the country said it decided to halt new taxi operation permits due to the bloated state of the KZN taxi industry. The council said although the industry is filled to capacity, all pending ap plications submitted before this decision was made, would still be issued. Santaco spokesperson Mandla Mzele mu said the decision was part of the plan to reduce the number of road accidents caused by minibus taxis that are not road worthy. He also said they aim to address the taxi violence that persists in some parts of KZN because of tensions between legal and illegal operators. In 2007 the council took the decision with the Department of Transport to stop issuing permits. “But later, we negotiated with the department to lift the moratorium because many minibus taxis were operating without permits. “This was actually putting the lives of commuters at risk,” said Mzelemu. Mzelemu told The Witness that the taxi council is aiming to maintain order and con trol within the industry.
He said the only way to do so was through limiting the powers of local taxi as sociations that were recruiting people into the industry. “We urge people to stop purchasing ve hicles [minibus taxis] without operating permits. “That puts the lives of commuters in danger.” Mzelemu said the council was aware some operators would be defiant on the is sue. “But if anything, like an accident, hap pens with commuters aboard that vehicle, government will not compensate anyone affected. “We want to ensure all vehicles we have on the road have permits and are safe for commuters. Any vehicles which are not roadworthy will be taken off the road.” He warned retirees against investing their pension into a taxi business. “What we are saying is, if you are currently planning to take your package from where you work to start a taxi business, there is no more space for you,” said Mzelemu. Department of Transport spokesperson Kwanele Ncalane said the department agrees with the taxi regulator that they need to reduce traffic in the taxi industry. Ncalane said the other reason was due to the the industry being oversaturated and overtraded, which would mean operators could end up not making any profits.
relay must obtain a minimum of 70% in order to qualify for the second round of the competition, scheduled to take place next term. The top 20 achievers in each grade in round two together with their parents and maths teachers will be invited to an awards banquet which will take place at the KwaDukuza Town Hall in November. Abraham added: “Last term the maths association hosted a successful maths Top 20 and Math-a-Move competition at Stanger Heights for pupils
from grades four to seven and the top three in each of the games will also be invited to the awards banquet.” A new maths game will be introduced to pupils in September, Abraham added. A workshop will be held to empower teachers on the rules of the game before the game is introduced to pupils and an inter-school competition will be held in October. For more information regarding the maths relay contact Abraham on 079 4280 345.

Triumph of the people

WAS genuinely worried about the local-government elections and what would happen to our country. The run-up to the poll was messy and bloody. Political violence, which had been absent in our society for many years, was a reality again, with 20 party candidates killed in the runup to the local elections. Political party campaigns were intense and aggressive. This was more
than just a battle for seats on municipal councils. It was a fight to the death for power and resources. Even national leaders resorted to insults and rhetoric to demonise each other in an effort to draw voters. Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Mmusi Maimane said on the campaign trail that President Jacob Zuma is the only person who “missed apartheid”. “He is no different to what [Hendrik] Verwoed thought about black people. Jacob Zuma does not believe that it is possible for black people to lead white people,” Maimane said. This was in reaction to the president’s rather unsavoury attacks on Maimane, repeatedly calling him a snake and condemning him as an “artificial” leader. It is expected that political leaders take their gloves off in the heat of the election campaign, but it was quite astounding to see the president compromise the stature of his office by resorting to fear mongering and race baiting.

Slower every year SINCE the first democratic voting took place, my local voting station has got progressively worse with each election. At 10 am, the queue at Carter High School was very long and had barely moved after 30 minutes. There was definitely something amiss. We asked officials what the holdup was and were told that the staff were just working slowly. After an hour and nearing the front of the line, a young man came and peered into our ID books. He said he was looking for people with surnames starting with R onwards. As he made no move with mine, I pointed out that my surname
f
began with S, so I was someone he was looking for. A light bulb went off and he told me to go into the school hall. The power failure hadn’t helped either, and the officials were working in dim lighting. I suggested they draw back the heavy, dark-blue velvet curtains and throw some light on their paper work, which they did. My deepest sympathies go to all those who are made to stand for hours in the rural areas. Don’t make plans to go elsewhere on the day of the next election as it’s going to be a long wait. D.M. He said he could not understand how black people could vote for the DA and warned that those who did not vote for the ANC would anger their ancestors and cause bad luck in their lives. One would have expected that a leader who is twice the age of his rivals and with his background in conflict resolution would be more responsible in his statements. Our country certainly does not need more racial divisiveness and volatility, especially after the spate of violence in Tshwane and Vuwani during the campaign period. With such a negative atmosphere hanging over the poll, I worried about what would happen on election day. Would people be intimidated against casting their votes? Would there be a return to violence, with clashes between rival parties and destruction of property? There were other concerns too. Would the election run smoothly? Was the Independent Electoral Commission properly prepared or would peo-
Lambie has been badly let down by Springboks THE mere fact that Pat Lambie remains concussed, five weeks after that fateful collision in the first Test against the Irish, puts the issue of incompetent refs, as well as citing commissioners, into perspective. The one-week suspension (a disgrace) was based on an assumption that the offence was a midair collision, when it was, in fact, an off-the-ball incident, reminiscent of a Kamikazi pilot hit. This was two different scenarios, with different set of rules and different penalties. To prove this point, just a quick insight into the following: if Lambie had stopped dead in his tracks after kicking the ball, and, very importantly, remembering the offender was already air bourne, and could not change his direction, as
Must have been embarrassing A SPEECH given by presidential hopeful Donald Trump’s wife, which turned out to be a rip-off of one given by Michelle Obama years ago, must have embarrassed the front-runner. Melania Trump defended it as her own “with a little help”.
Similarities between three faiths are great AN interesting thought occurred to me today about the world’s religions and I thought I should share it. Judaism, Christianity and Islam, known as the Abrahamic faiths as they all have Abraham in their origins, ironically all have creationism over natural evolution to explain life on
Earth. Strangely, they all seem to have evolved from the first major monotheistic faith, Judaism, to adapt to the societies in which they gained dominance. Today’s modern Islamic extremists like Isis are behaving in a way that was
ple be deprived of their right to vote through inefficiencies and bad planning? And then the big question: would people turn up to vote or would apathy keep them away? Then voting day came and millions of South Africans did their democratic duty. All over the country, people went out and voted to make their voices heard. Voter registration and turnout were higher than in previous elections, and IEC officials and many volunteers worked hard through long hours to see the process through. There were some hitches and delays, but overall the system worked. I did not mind the fact that I had to wait two hours to cast my vote when I saw how professionally the IEC officials were managing the operation at my polling station, even smiling through their fatigue when they encountered difficult any customers. The counting and auditing process took longer than expected, particular-
last seen during the inquisitions of Christianity but in these violent times no deities emerged to direct or bless those involved. There are big differences in all three faiths but the underlying similarities are even greater. For example, in Judaism and Islam, pork is forbid-
claimed, where would he have landed? A couple of metres in front of Lambie, of course, looking very stupid. If the right call was made, the correct protocol would have been followed and the right penalty imposed, in this case, easily 10 to 12 weeks’ suspension, if not more. But Lambie was badly let down, as seems to be the norm with most South African players lately. I just hope that this young man’s confidence hasn’t taken a knock, as he seems to be a marked man, reminiscent of a Naas Botha of yesteryear. So much for sportsmanship.
ly in eThekwini and the Gauteng metros. This process was another source of worry, as there were expectations that there might be widespread disputes and allegations of rigging. But by yesterday morning, there were no major problems, with only the exhaustion of the IEC officials holding up the process. The provisional results of the elections showed some shock outcomes and the introduction of a new phase of coalition politics in the country. The DA’s win in Nelson Mandela Bay and the neck-and-neck battles in the Gauteng metros hold some hard lessons for the ANC. The ANC has the opportunity to listen to the message from the voters or remain in denial about the reasons for the outcome. But whatever the final results, the election was a triumph of the will of the people and our democracy. • Ranjeni Munusamy is a political journal ist and commentator for the Daily Maver ick. ranjeni.munusamy@gmail.com
Nothing is free
den, but as genetic traits can often skip a generation, it is allowed in Christianity. I would like to initiate a reader’s debate on this subject. I am no cultural evolutionary expert but could the fact that there are three clearly linked monotheistic faiths not in effect prove that no single creator actually exists?
WE, the citizens of this great country, have been the victims of deceit by the ruling party. From the birth of democracy, the masses have been promised free education, housing and medical treatment. As any competent businessperson knows, nothing is free. Handing out free groceries at your local grocer will result in bankruptcy. The funds have to come from somewhere. So who pays for all the freebees? In South Africa, there are only 3,3 million taxpayers. Considering that there are approximately 22 million people within the working age group in our country, it is frightening to think that just 3,3 million people have to pay for corruption, free medical treatment, free education and free housing. These 3,3 million taxpayers are further burdened to foot the bill of the huge South Africa Social Security Agency (Sassa) budget. This is to provide freebees to individuals who in some cases don’t qualify for these benefits. Another great idea by the ruling party. The ruling party has promised the people of South Africa free services at the expense of us, the working class. I’m quite certain that the ANC does not have a trillion rand lying around somewhere to honour these empty promises, which were made just to secure votes. A business will only prosper if the available resources are optimised. Look at the South African economy as a business — 3,3 million people is not optimisation, it is deceit. South Africans, please use your vote wisely during the upcoming local elections as nothing is free.

GGS have massive health benefits and are seen as a crucial part of any fitness fanatic’s lifestyle they are equally as important in the health benefits of Pokémon Go. While the app hasn’t quite made its way to South Africa yet, local users have managed to download it via the app hosting site apkmirror.com sending the country into a craze — with unavoidable hoards of users clustering around what are normally arbitrary locations collecting pokeballs, eggs and potions. The app has pinned areas outside of places of worship, post offices and other landmarks as virtual markers from where users can collect items within the game. Pokémon, short for “Pocket Monsters”, is the hit TV series from the nineties which has since spawned the most downloaded app in U.S. history — the goal behind it being to collect as many virtual creatures as possible and become a master. How Pokémon Go works Once a South African user downloads the app from the APK mirror website, they install the game and are able to chose a “starter pokémon” from three creatures. Once chosen, the hunt begins. Pokémon are around the country, “virtually” everywhere. The app uses the user’s smartphone GPS to track Pokémon around them. Once the user taps a Pokémon, the smartphone camera is activated and the user is able to photograph it,
as if it were in front of them. A pokéball is then used to catch them with the flick of a finger toward them. Pokéstops are places where users can collect more pokeballs after finishing them, and Gyms are places users can battle to gain more experience points and level up. The user then has to walk around before new Pokémon appear. Health benefits Going back to the eggs While users are forced to walk around to actually catch Pokémon, eggs in the game can be incubated and once walking, either two kilometres, five kilometres or 10km, hatch a new Pokémon. Most smartphones already encourage users to complete a 10 000-step-aday walk with the device’s pedometer to track step count. Pokémon Go user’s location of the smartphone forces the user to physically walk around to hatch Eggs. A small display shows what Pokémon are near and can be tracked, but is often inaccurate, again forcing the user to walk countless steps to actually find them. The walking aspect makes it far different from any other fitness apps available for download today. Pokémon Go CEO John Hanke told Business Insider in an interview: “A lot of fitness apps come with a lot of ‘baggage’ that ends up making you feel like ‘a failed Olympic athlete’ when you’re just trying to get fit … Pokémon Go is designed to get you up and moving by promising you Pokémon as rewards, rather than placing pressure on you.”

NEW chapter has been written in the chronicle of amazing human achievements. Fedor Konyukhov, the famous Russian adventurer, has set a world record for circumnavigating the globe non-stop in a hot air balloon in just 11 days. The previous record set by the American balloonist Steve Fosset was beat by two days. Fedor Konyukhov’s ambitious undertaking was directly supported by Toyota, with the new Toyota Hilux as the official vehicle of this amazing journey. Over a year ago, the legendary Toyota Hilux pickup accompanied the prominent adventurer in all preparations to the around-the-world flight. First of all, it supported the training phase in Russia. Then, during the pre-flight preparations in June, the seventh-generation Toyota Hilux participated in the official

MAHINDRA South Africa has reason to celebrate after a strong showing in the annual dealer satisfaction survey conducted by the National Automobile Dealers’ Association of South Africa (NADA). The results of the survey were announced at a gala dinner last week. Mahindra was acknowledged as the Most Improved Passenger Brand by its dealers in the dealer survey, while it also received a Bronze Award for overall dealer satisfaction. The 2016 survey encompassed a total of 39 independently researched brands, and the results were compiled from more than 1 500 responses received from NADA-accredited franchise dealers, of which 1 329 were submitted by passenger car/light commercial vehicle dealerships. The survey is based on the answers to 50 key questions based on every facet of the relationship between dealers and
handover of a new Cameron Balloons hot air balloon to Fedor Konyukhov in Bristol, UK. On 12 July, the invincible pickup was indispensable at the launching site near Northam, Australia – Toyota Hilux prevented the balloon from a premature take-off, while the envelope was being filled with helium. Finally, the pickup was among the first to arrive at the landing site, with Fedor Konyukhov’s team on board. After the balloon touched the ground, it was again secured with the help of Toyota Hilux, enabling Fedor Konyukhov to exit the pod safely. Fedor’s balloon was airborne for 11 days, traveling the distance of 34,950 km: it passed over the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian oceans, approached Antarctica and flew across Australia, South America and Africa. Konyukhov has been flying at heights of up to 10,600 m
their OEMs and or Distributors. Mahindra was in the top 25 percent of responses to key aspects such stock availability, vehicle deliveries, warranty payments and CSI recognition. Compared to the 2015 survey, Mahindra moved up eight places with an overall score of 65,7 percent. It showed the most improvement of all brands as far as Dealer Communication and Customer Focus were concerned. It also achieved a top five spot for Vehicle Distribution, and was among the top 10 brands in the Dealer Satisfaction category. “Our performance in the 2016 NADA Dealer Satisfaction Awards highlights just one of several strategies to ensure the consistent progress of the brand in South Africa. “We continue to expand and improve the Mahindra model offering, and are also placing a particular em-
while enduring temperatures down to -55°C. Celebrating the new world record, Fedor Konyukhov’s son Oscar Konyukhov, who headed the ground support team, said: “I’m extremely proud of my father! It’s hard to grasp the scope of what he managed to achieve. To complete a record-breaking non-stop circumnavigation in a hot air balloon from the first attempt is one chance in a million. And he did just that!” “The whole Toyota team sincerely congratulates Fedor Konyukhov and all participants of the Round The World On a Roziere Balloon project. The example of the 65-year old traveller who challenged the nature and circumstances proves that there is nothing impossible for a human. Especially when supported by true friends and a vehicle you can rely on in the most extreme situations,” commented Tatiana Khalyavskaya, marketing director at Toyota Motor Russia.
