e just came off another great week of Raising Roofs…Builders for Habitat, our 7th time partnering with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Greensboro since 2003. Sixteen of our builders, along with more than 100 trade contractor and supplier members, contributed to build 5 homes in less than a week for five of Habitat’s newest homeowners. To date, our Raising Roofs partnership has provided 55 new homes over the past 12 years. Many thanks to all who supported this great endeavor in giving back to our community in such a gracious way. Read more about Raising Roofs in this special Raising Roofs edition. Our committee leadership and staff continued its torrid pace of providing many opportunities to get involved and maximize the benefit of your GBA membership and there are many additional upcoming activities for your benefit and involvement. So check them out on the GBA website and find an activity that fits you; and invite a friend. Thank you to all who help lead and organize our events, thanks to all who participate, and thank you to each of our sponsors…you make it all happen! Over the past few months, our Tour of Remodeled Homes featured twelve of our remodeler members demonstrating their craftsmanship to huge crowds; the Parade committee put on another successful Fall Parade of Homes with 40 homes available for viewing to exceptional crowds; Stock Building Supply provided a great networking opportunity to celebrate the Parade; we had another full slate of golfers at the Fall Golf tournament hosted by Greensboro National; our Skeet Tournament continues to grow in popularity with more than 50 members participating at Shane’s Sporting Clays; and we just held a very successful Associates EXPO and Builder Appreciation event! As I wrap up a very rewarding year with the honor of serving our membership as President, I want to thank each of you for your support, involvement and encouragement. Although we may measure our time in an annual timeframe with a new President and Board each year, I have realized that our Association operates more as a continuum. This year will end and a new President and Board will be seated in January, but through the leadership representing each of the committees, the process of providing the quality activities and events for the benefit of our members continues seamlessly. In addition, the GBA staff, led by Cheryl Collins and so ably supported by Michelle Harris, Mavis Holcombe and Amy Jones is top notch. They truly are the driving force that guides and supports our committee efforts to make our memberships in the GBA so valuable. Thank you for a great year.

Raising Roofs…Builders for Habitat
Celebrating 55 Homes since 2003!
T

We would especially like to thank the Raising Roofs…Builders for Habitat brings builders, Habitat Greensboro staff for their tremendous efforts to ensure remodelers, suppliers and trade contractors together to work all aspects of the build were coordinated…as well as the City side by side to build houses from foundation to dedication in of Greensboro Inspections Department for providing prompt one incredible week. Sixteen builders volunteered to work in inspections as needed. teams to construct the houses which were built to both Energy Star and the National Green Building Standard certifications. It was a GREAT week…and a tremendous milestone for not only our Association…but for Habitat Greensboro as these 55 homes represent more than 20% of the homes Habitat has constructed in the past 12 years! Our goal in sustaining this project is to conduct our builds every other year…therefore we are looking forward to doing it again in 2017 and beyond.

Habitat homes are simple, decent and affordable houses sold to hardworking families at no-profit and with interest-free financing. In addition to a modest down payment, families contribute 300 hours of “sweat equity” toward the purchase of their home. For Raising Roofs homes, families are volunteering on other construction projects to achieve their required hours.

Builder News Promote New Construction & Professional Remodeling With more than 175 licensed general contractors that are members of the Greensboro Builders Association…consumers often don’t know where to start their search for a builder and/or remodeler. However, they are aware of the annual Parade of Homes and Tour of Remodeled Homes. In addition to gaining face-to-face time with consumers during these home tours, your company’s marketing information remains on the GBA website and mobile APP for 6-12 months…giving you a marketing advantage over those who don’t participate. As you develop your 2016 Marketing Plan…consider participating in one of our three annual home tour events.
Parade of Homes Promoting NEW construction and communities, we will again be offering both a spring and fall Parade of Homes in 2016 to allow builders continued flexibility based on marketing of existing inventory and timing for new construction.

April 23-24 & April 30-May 1 October 15-16 & 22-23
Builders are encouraged to work with clients to enter pre-sales in the Parade. This enables the builder along with their suppliers and trade contractors the opportunity to take advantage of this consumeroriented marketing event. The various Parade incentives provided by suppliers can often be a deciding factor for your homeowner to participate. Early registration deadline for the Spring Parade is February 5…with final registration deadline of February 26.
Tour of Remodeled Homes For remodeling contractors, participation in the annual Tour of Remodeled Homes is a great way to set your company apart from other remodelers. Our 2016 Tour will be held Saturday & Sunday, August 6 - 7. We will not have homes open on Friday this year. Tour entries can be ANY renovation that has previously been completed or will be finalized by June 10, 2016. Tour entries provide consumers the opportunity to visualize and see first-hand what they might be able to do within their own home. The Tour also provides increased exposure for both the remodeler and associate members involved in the renovation. Entry deadline is May 27.

City & County Inspections Are you experiencing any challenges with building permits and/ or inspections…either in the city or county? As construction and remodeling activity increases…we are hearing growing concerns with scheduling of inspections, communications, and code interpretations. The Builders Council is planning to conduct Builder Roundtables with both the City and County Inspections Departments and would like to gather feedback in advance of these meetings.
