GOV. PRITZKER WELCOMES U.S. DEPARTMENT OF LABOR TO ILLINOIS FOR FINAL REGIONAL CONVENING OF THE YEAR

CHICAGO—Governor JB Pritzker joined U.S. Department of Labor Acting Secretary Julie Su and regional stakeholders for the USDOL’s Employment and Training Administration (ETA) Vision 2030 Conference: Investing in America’s Workforce. The plenary session, “Setting the Vision,” involved discussion of current workforce development landscapes by industry leaders, workers, and private and public sector partners. During the session, the Governor remarked on Illinois’ workforce and apprenticeship accomplishments. He highlighted the administration’s passing of the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act and Reimagining Energy and Vehicles Act, which have created thousands of jobs across Illinois. Governor Pritzker also emphasized the workforce development programs launched during his administration as well as the downstate manufacturing training academies. “President Biden is ‘Investing in America’ to build new roads and bridges, to make sure that clean drinking water flows from every faucet and high-speech, reliable, affordable internet reaches every home, and to protect our climate so every child breathes clean air,” said Acting Labor Secretary Julie Su. “And this isn’t just an opportunity to build new infrastructure. It’s an opportunity to create good-paying, union jobs, whenever possible. That requires investing in ETA’s mission to strengthen our workforce system.” The ETA Regional Convenings across the nation followed a theme of “Expanding Access to Quality Jobs and Ensuring Job Equity,” and focused on creating a national dialogue on the workforce system, fostering partnerships to address the present and future workforce needs, and scaling successful practices by providing a platform for engagement between federal, state, and local entities.

REP. ROBIN KELLY CELEBRATES 40 STATES EXTENDING MEDICAID POSTPARTUM COVERAGE

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Robin Kelly (IL-02) celebrated the approval of Missouri’s plan to offer a full year of Medicaid coverage after pregnancy by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Missouri is the 40th state to extend such coverage from 60 days to a full year postpartum. Congresswoman Robin Kelly has been working to combat the maternal mortality crisis, particularly among Black women, for nearly her entire tenure in Congress. Rep. Kelly initially secured the inclusion of the Medicaid postpartum extension option in the American Rescue Plan - and secured the permanent option in December 2022. Rep. Kelly’s home state of Illinois was the first to implement the extension. Rep. Kelly’s proposed CARE For Moms Act requires every state to implement the one-year extension. Rep. Kelly has led numerous bipartisan legislative initiatives supporting maternal health care that have been signed into law including the Maternal Health Quality Improvement Act, the PREEMIE Act, and the Preventing Maternal Deaths Act. Congresswoman Kelly is the Chair of Congressional Black Caucus Health Braintrust, Co-Chair of the bipartisan Maternity Care Caucus, and Co-Chair of the Caucus on Black Women and Girls. “I am thrilled that 40 states have implemented a full year of Medicaid postpartum coverage. This evidence-driven and impactful reform will save countless lives and support millions of American families,” said Congresswoman Robin Kelly. “I was proud to spearhead the push for Medicaid postpartum coverage in Congress and I am optimistic that the remaining ten states will take similar steps to protect mothers and babies. I look forward to building on this progress and passing the CARE For Moms Act, my comprehensive solution to the maternal mortality crisis.”

MAYOR BRANDON JOHNSON APPOINTS DR. OLUSIMBO IGE TO SERVE AS COMMISSIONER OF THE CHICAGO DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH CHICAGO — Mayor Brandon Johnson announced the appointment of esteemed public health leader Dr. Olusimbo “Simbo” Ige, MD, MS, MPH to serve as Commissioner of the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH). Dr. Ige is currently the Managing Director of Programs at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and has previously served as the Assistant Commissioner for the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. “Dr. Ige is a tremendous addition to not just our administration, but to the City of Chicago,” said Mayor Johnson. “Dr. Ige is someone who understands the balance between hard data and community interaction when assessing public health problems and solutions, and with decades of experience in public health, she brings a clear-eyed understanding of both the challenges and the opportunities that CDPH and our city face, and how we will collectively overcome them. “She will lead with compassion, competency and collaboration in moving our public health department and our city forward.” Dr. Ige’s public health career spans nearly two decades. As the Managing Director of Programs for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, she oversaw partnerships with health organizations nationwide working towards making public health and health care systems accountable and equitable. At the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Dr. Ige provided oversight to a wide range of programs, including the city’s pandemic response, food security programs, housing and health initiatives, mental health programs, violence prevention, and the Public Health Corps initiative. “It is a distinct honor to serve the city of Chicago in this role,” said Dr. Ige. “Through collaboration with the Johnson Administration and with community members in Chicago, I am confident that we can improve the health outcomes for all Chicagoans. I have spent my entire career in the public health field, and I look forward to bringing all that I have learned to CDPH.” Dr. Ige was selected through a rigorous and thorough nation-

wide search led by a committee composed of prominent leaders in public health: Dr. David Ansell, MD, MPH, Senior Vice President for Community Health Equity at Rush University Medical Center; Arturo Carillo, Ph.D., LCSW, Deputy Director for Health and Violence Prevention for the Brighton Park Neighborhood Council; Dr. Ngozi Ezike, MD, President and CEO of Sinai Chicago; Dr. Wayne H. Giles, MD, MS, Dean of the School of Public Health at the University of Illinois at Chicago; and Dr. Linda Rae Murray, MD, MPH, F.A.C.P., Bureau Chief for the Chicago Department of Health under Mayor Harold Washington and former Chief Medical Officer for the Cook County Department of Public Health of the Cook County Health & Hospital System, as well as representatives from the Mayor’s Office and Acting CDPH Commissioner Fikirte Wagaw. The search committee engaged in a comprehensive process of soliciting, vetting and interviewing dozens of public health candidates from across the country. Four candidates were ultimately submitted to Mayor Johnson who interviewed each candidate before selecting Dr. Ige, who will be the first Black, female commissioner to lead the CDPH in a permanent role. “In an incredibly talented pool, Dr. Ige shone through as a highly experienced and passionate public health leader who understands the critical juncture that public health departments find themselves,” said Dr. Ngozi Ezike. “Dr. Ige is unwavering in her commitment to nimbly navigate through this time and set the mission and work of public health on a firmer foundation for the future.” From 2020-2023, Dr. Ige served as the Assistant Commissioner for the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene where she managed a team of 500 working to address intersecting racial and health inequities. In her role as Assistant Commissioner, Dr. Ige advised New York City’s health and human services executive leadership team including the Commissioner of

CITY OF CHICAGO ANNOUNCES NEW SHELTER STAY POLICY, ADDITIONAL LANDING ZONE PERSONNEL AND NEW REGULATORY MEASURES CHICAGO – With the aim of accelerating resettlement efforts for new arrivals, the City of Chicago is announcing the next phase of the New Arrivals Mission. Three new efforts build upon the work that the City has been doing for the past year. First, in partnership with the State of Illinois, the City is increasing personnel at the landing zone to help new arrivals reunite with their friends, family or verified sponsors. For many new arrivals, Chicago is not the final destination. By aiding new arrivals at the point of arrival, the City can save space in the shelter system for those individuals and families who plan to stay in Chicago. Second, the City is regulating “rogue buses” which cause unnecessary logistical obstacles for intake and put the lives of new arrivals in danger – particularly as the temperatures drop. New regulatory tools will allow the City to cite and fine bus companies that disregard curfews, landing zone locations and loading/unloading protocols. Finally, the City will implement a limited stay policy along with additional

supports from the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS). For individuals and families currently in City shelters, the City will be issuing 60-day exit notices in waves based on their arrival date to shelter. New arrivals who entered shelter in 2022 will receive a 60-day notice beginning 11/17/2023. Approximately 50 people will receive notices in this group. New arrivals who entered shelter between 1/1/2023 - 7/31/2023 will begin receiving 60-day notices on 12/4/2023. Approximately 3,000 people currently in shelter arrived in this timeframe. New arrivals who entered shelter between 7/31/2023 - 11/16/2023 will begin receiving 60-day notices on 2/1/2024. Approximately 8,800 people currently in shelter arrived in this timeframe. All new arrivals to shelter on or after 11/17/2023 will receive a 60-day notice upon intake. The City will continue leveraging intergovernmental and private partnerships to share the responsibility, coordination and resources to address this inherited international crisis. “There are three anchors to this new phase in our plan: creating pathways to resettlement, community integration and reunification, creating jobs for Chicagoans in staffing the New Arrivals Mission, and building public infrastructure for the public good,” said Mayor Brandon Johnson. “Above all, we are treating our new neighbors with compassion because it is the humane thing to do and because with support, they can become productive members of our communities, contributing to our economy, our culture and our society.” The City of Chicago has successfully resettled or assisted outmigration for more than 10,000 new arrivals as part of the New Arrivals Mission. Working with partners at Catholic Charities and the State of Illinois, the City has helped resettle more than 7,000 individuals, including more than 2,700 households into long-term housing. Permanent or long-term housing is a crucial step on the path to self-sufficiency and resettlement. The City has also helped reunite more than 2,500 new arrivals with friends, family, or verified sponsors. The City has also taken a number of measures to employ Chicago workers and businesses in the New Arrivals Mission, successfully renegotiating the contract with Favorite Staffing multiple times, resulting in a majority of staffing shifting to local/regional staff and cost-savings of

more than $1.5 million per week. The City has also put out a number of requests for proposal for both shelter staff and food services. The New Arrivals Mission has bolstered the City’s crisis response systems and significantly expanded the City’s ability to quickly stand-up and run shelters. The FY2024 budget makes critical investments in the Department of Family and Support Services and the Office of Emergency Management and Communications to continue to expand the public infrastructure of the City. Alongside the roll-out of these notices, the City is partnering with IDHS to provide those in shelter as of 11/16/23 with additional supports, including shortterm housing resettlement resources via the Asylum Seeker Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ASERAP). The City’s goal in implementing this plan is to assist as many asylum-seekers as possible in moving on to resettlement while creating necessary shelter space for those currently staying on police station or airport floors, or sleeping outside. To maximize the number of individuals that can be supported with limited ASERAP resources, IDHS is adjusting ASERAP to provide three months of rental assistance rather than six months of rental assistance. In addition, all individuals and families newly entering a City shelter will be given a 60-day shelter stay. At the end of their 60-day period, those who are still in need of shelter must return to the landing zone to place a new shelter request. Under extenuating circumstances, including medical crisis or severe cold weather, individuals may be eligible for a temporary extension. Due to limited State resources, IDHS has determined that individuals entering shelter on or after 11/17/23 will not be eligible for housing resettlement supports at this time. This comprehensive approach allows asylum seekers the opportunity to access services and stable shelter while they attain long-term housing. By moving asylum seekers through the shelter system faster, there will be available space for families that are currently on the waitlist or are sleeping outside. The City will continue exploring all options to expand access to temporary shelter, which includes working with aldermen, the State of Illinois, and communities across the city in supporting efforts to move new arrivals indoors and off the floors of O’Hare Airport and police district stations.

HARRIS’ NEW LAW SUPPORTS ILLINOIS’ FARMERS AND SMALL BUSINESSES

SPRINGFIELD – A measure that preserves insurance choices for rural farmers in Illinois is now law, thanks to State Senator Napoleon Harris, III. Harris’ initiative – which was signed into law Friday – modernizes coverage requirements for farm mutual insurance companies to allow them to adapt to changes in the insurance marketplace and continue to provide coverage to farmers across Illinois. “Illinois’ farmers drive our economy,” said Harris (D-Harvey). “It is important that we update the state’s provisions to allow these community insurance companies to keep their doors open and preserve choice in the insurance marketplace.” Farm mutual insurance companies typically started off as small community-based organizations, but over time many have grown and began to offer insurance to more members in more diverse communities. Currently, there are 44 farm mutual companies that provide more than 50,000 policy holders with insurance coverage. Harris, who started his legislative career as the Senate’s Agriculture Committee Chair, is now leading the Senate Insurance Committee. In this role, he saw the need to update this law to ensure farm mutual insurance companies have options while securing reinsurance contracts from larger insurance entities. If action was not taken by Harris, the remaining farm mutual companies in Illinois could have been cut in half and thousands of farmers would be forced to find different insurance coverage. Proponents of this new law believe this will allow the insurance marketplace to correct itself and set appropriate coverage options and pricing for farm mutual insurance companies and its policy holders. Previously, Illinois was only one of five states that had not updated the law. “If the state had not acted swiftly, we would have been eliminating choices for our smaller insurance companies and specifically for a large amount of farmers in our state,” said Harris. “We instituted this change for five years to provide small business owners with the support to provide farmers with suitable coverage. We will reevaluate in a few years to ensure we are, in fact, providing our agribusiness sector with the resources to continue to grow and be successful in Illinois.” Senate Bill 765 passed the General Assembly with bipartisan support and goes into effect immediately.

JOYCE-BACKED LAW TO PROTECT FARMERS, FARM MUTUAL INSURANCE COMPANIES SPRINGFIELD – State Senator Patrick Joyce supported a new law signed Friday that will strengthen regulations for farm mutual insurance companies. “Our farm mutual insurance companies need to have access to reinsurance in order to keep them up and running effectively,” said Joyce (D-Essex). “This new law takes policyholders into consideration because they could also be at risk if catastrophe strikes.” Prior to this new law, the Illinois Department of Insurance required unlimited catastrophic aggregate reinsurance coverage. Currently, only one company offers contracts that meet the DOI’s requirements, and as a result, many farm mutual insurance companies struggle to find reinsurance coverage. Farm mutual insurance companies will now be required to have and maintain adequate catastrophic reinsurance rather than unlimited catastrophic reinsurance. This change ensures farm mutual insurance companies and their policyholders can continue to be protected from financial losses in the event of a natural disaster or other costly incident. “This legislation strikes the right balance between protecting policyholders and ensuring the financial health of farm mutual companies,” said Joyce. Senate Bill 765 was signed Friday and takes effect immediately.

ATTORNEY GENERAL RAOUL REACHES OVER $1 MILLION SETTLEMENT WITH MANUFACTURING COMPANY OVER USE OF NO-POACH AGREEMENTS “We will not tolerate companies collaborating to take advantage of workers, and my office is committed to enforcing laws that protect workers’ rights and access to fair wages and opportunities to better provide for their families.”

Chicago – Attorney General Kwame Raoul announced a settlement with Colony Display LLC (Colony) that resolves allegations Colony entered into no-poach agreements and engaged in wage fixing with three staffing agencies. The settlement requires Colony to pay more than $1 million to compensate temporary workers who were impacted by the unlawful activity. “Illinois workers ultimately pay when employers collude to keep wages down. I am pleased that this settlement includes compensation for workers who were impacted by unlawful activity that limited wages and job opportunities,” Raoul said. “We will not tolerate companies collaborating to take advantage of workers, and my office is committed to enforcing laws that protect workers’ rights and access to fair wages and opportunities to better provide for their families.” In 2020, Raoul’s office filed a lawsuit against three staffing agencies – Elite Staffing Inc., Metro Staff Inc., and Midway Staffing Inc. – and Colony. Raoul alleged the staffing agencies formed an unlawful agreement to refuse to solicit or hire each other’s employees (commonly known as “no-poach” agreements), and to fix the wages paid to employees. RECHARGES FAN-FAVORITE SINGLE “FINE WHINE” OUT NOW

Purple Agency

New York, NY — Rising R&B powerhouse CANDIACE refreshes her fan-favorite “Fine Whine” with an official re-release of the single. It graces her acclaimed 2022 full-length album, Deep Space (Deluxe Editon). On the track, a dreamy soundscape uplifted by charging 808s and sizzling hi-hats immediately captivates as CANDIACE follows with a flurry of enchanting vocals. Her lyrics teem with emotion, detailing her uncontainable love and attraction for a significant other. Leaning into unforgettable melodies, it hinges on her anthemic hook, “Sexy fine whine, dutty fine whine, that shit I like.” She continues to urge, “Come and lay in my sheets tonight.” Stay tuned for the official music video premiering on Friday, November 10. The single will also be featured in MTV’s upcoming film Noah’s Arc, premiering this winter. It arrives on the heels of her recent collaboration with Drew Sidora, “Affirmations, Pt. II.” The latter has garnered more than 175k Spotify streams while also reeling in critical acclaim from the likes of Rated R&B, That Grape Juice, Broadway World, and more. In other news, CANDIACE just wrapped up the second leg of her highly-successful “Deep Space” Tour. Throughout 2023, she lit up stages across the nation with performances in Chicago, IL, Nashville, TN, New

York, NY, and Atlanta, GA, to name a few. Fans can tune into Season 8 of Real Housewives of Potomac to watch CANDIACE shine on the big screen. CANDIACE built widespread hype with last year’s Deep Space. In its first week, it opened with more than half a million streams and has garnered north of 7.5 million streams to date. It achieved #24 on the Billboard Current R&B Albums Chart and also peaked at #4 on the iTunes R&B/Soul chart. Additionally, it earned praise from the likes of Anita Baker, Nicki Minaj, and Toni Braxton. She then re-upped, re-energized, and recharged her acclaimed full-length debut album with eight recordings, including “INSECURE” [feat. Trina]. Right out of the gate, “INSECURE” incited critical applause and earned plugs from the likes of Bossip and That Grape Juice, who noted, “The ‘Real Housewives of Potomac’ star has been making solid strides with tracks such as ‘Drive Back’ and its housing album ‘Deep Space.’ And the trajectory continues with her newest number.” Rated R&B raved, “The spicy track contains some of the bluntest lyrics and heartfelt vocals as Candiace lets a fragile lover know it’s all him and not her, putting a damper on their relationship.” BET highlighted, “she’s telling the insecure folks about themselves.”

MCA Chicago announces Resonance Spring Performance Series CHICAGO—Each spring the MCA presents a series of performances that are shaped by a curatorial theme reflecting our contemporary moment. The 2024 series, which takes place from March 28 through May 12, focuses on the theme of “resonance” through works by four artists who explore the physicality of sound and voice: Anna Martine Whitehead, Samita Sinha, Laura Ortman, and 7NMS | Marjani Forté-Saunders and Everett Saunders. Together, the artists and their respective pieces form voices expressing the present power of protest. Resonance is organized by Tara Aisha Willis, Former Curator in Performance, with Laura Paige Resonance Programming Anna Martine Whitehead FORCE! An opera in three acts March 28–30, 7:30 pm Edlis Neeson Theater FORCE! is a sprawling, surrealist opera from artist Anna Martine Whitehead that blends experimental dance with the sounds of gospel, folk, pop, and contemporary experimental jazz. Opening upon a group of Black women and femmes as they realize they must enter a prison to escape the rapidly deteriorating society outside, FORCE! uses silence, sound, and rhythm to question who truly has control over how their time is spent. Samita Sinha Tremor April 18–20, 7:30 pm Edlis Neeson Theater Artist and composer Samita Sinha’s latest performance work, Tremor, is born from Sinha’s practice of decomposing, distilling, and transforming Indian vocal traditions through the body, employing sound as a vessel that harnesses and liberates energy. Performed in relationship to a live sonic environment created by composer Ash Fure, and within a set designed by architect Sunil Bald, Sinha is joined on stage each night by a rotating cast of sound- and movement-based collaborators. Live Music: Laura Ortman April 26–27, 7:30 pm Edlis Neeson Theater Violinist and composer Laura Ortman (White Mountain Apache) performs at the MCA for two evenings of live, multimedia concerts. Ortman’s performances are informed by her practice as a sculptor and installation artist; she uses this background to bridge the gap between music and fine art, describing her approach to music as “sculpting sound.” Performed in the MCA’s Edlis Neeson Theater, Ortman’s original music is presented alongside her video works, and is in response to Chicago’s historic and contemporary Indigenous communities. 7NMS | Marjani Forté-Saunders and Everett Saunders Prophet: The Order of the Lyricist May 9–11, 7:30 pm and May 12, 2:30pm Edlis Neeson Theater Prophet: The Order of the Lyricist is a multigenre coming-of-age story following a lyricist and emcee developed by 7NMS (pronounced “seven names”), a collaboration between artists Marjani Forté-Saunders and Everett Saunders. Illuminating the distinctive practices, systems, philosophies, and political ideologies that have shaped hip-hop’s emcees and lyricists, Prophet immerses audiences in a world of courage, self-determination, and devotion in an offering to radical Black expression.

Black Girls Golf Elevates Diverse Women in Golf at

This Year’s Executive Member Retreat LAPORTE, Ind., PRNewswire -- When diverse female professionals are brought together in sisterhood, amazing things happen. Just ask any of the women who attended this year’s Black Girls Golf Executive Member Retreat. “Thank you for providing this experience. Your vision for women of color is impressive and appreciated. It takes a lot to reach a nationwide audience of American Licorice Company various ages and experiences. You have given the opportunity to connect with people we never would have met.” - Lynda D. Lynda and more than 50 members of the Black Girls Golf organization from across the U.S. gathered this October in Kohler, Wisconsin for a weekend of connection, community, and empowerment. And a little time at the tee, of course! The chilly October weather did little to diminish the spirit of those in attendance, who braved the elements to sharpen their skills on and off the golf course. Through the long weekend, members participated in golf clinics, panel discussions, and networking events. Each event fostered opportunity for the diverse group of women to connect over navigating the complex experience of being a female professional. Though their varied experiences stem from a variety of

industries and environments, their shared identities as women of color and golf enthusiasts provided them with a significant commonality: the understanding of the work and support required to achieve more diversity and inclusion in the golf industry, and beyond. “I walked away with not just improved golf skills and knowledge but a greater sense of community and a renewed appreciation for the brands that stand beside us in supporting diversity and inclusion in golf. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your extraordinary effort and unwavering commitment. I’m looking forward to future events and the continued growth of this incredible community you’re building.” - Nicole T. As longtime official partners of Black Girls Golf, organizations like PUMAⓇ, BMW USAⓇ, the LPGAⓇ, and American Licorice™Company joined several other brands in support of this year’s retreat, and the organization’s important mission. It is through these supportive partnerships that founder, Tiffany Fitzgerald, seeks to, “continue breaking down barriers, promoting diversity, and empowering the next generation of Black girls and women in golf.” Since its founding in 2013, Black Girls Golf has worked tirelessly under Tiffany’s leadership and vision to create more access and opportunity to careers for women of color within the golf industry, a largely insulated environment

steeped in tradition, privilege, and exclusivity. Along the way, their national membership has grown significantly, supporting more and more women each year who seek to not only build their golf skills, but connect with other supportive women as a community. “The retreat was amazing! Not only did I learn how to play the game of golf but I was able to foster both business and personal connections with other phenomenal women. The panels were informative, and I left with new information from all panel discussions. The whole experience took the fear out of golf for me. I now feel empowered to try and practice my golf swing and engage [in] the game of golf. “ Wendy J. As one of the many sponsors of the retreat, American Licorice Company was able to send a few of its Associates to attend the event as well. American Licorice Payroll Administrator, Bridgette Braswell, shared that, “For someone who has never golfed but has been to a few clubs, the retreat allowed for insight into the game and a window into the vision of Black Girls Golf.” Bridgette went on to highlight her favorite aspects of the event, noting, “The panel discussion and fireside chat were excellent opportunities to hear from women [about] their career journeys, take-aways, and growth opportunities. It was also impressive and inspiring to meet so many women with diverse backgrounds, careers and roles. It was a phenomenal event and I look forward to the next one!” This sentiment is undoubtedly shared by all those who attended this powerful event. A Delicious Way to Support Your

IMMUNE SYSTEM

(Family Features) Bolstering your immune system during winter, when coughs and colds seem to take control, is a must for the entire family. Supporting your wellness can start in a simple place – with the foods you eat and drink. Consider an easy choice for any season like Florida Orange Juice, which can help you and your loved ones get the vitamins and minerals you need all winter long. With 100% of the daily recommended value of vitamin C in every 8-ounce serving along with key nutrients like potassium and magnesium, there’s a reason it’s referred to as the “Original Wellness Drink.” With no added sugar or artificial flavor, it provides the benefits you need without the additives you don’t. It contains natural sugar from the whole fruit for a delicious solution that’s one of nature’s nutrient-rich foods with vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients. Plus, it’s easy to use as a nutritional ingredient in wintertime favorites like this comforting Orange Juice and Coconut Chickpea Soup or to start your day strong with a Superfruit Breakfast Smoothie. Paired with a healthy lifestyle, 8 ounces of 100% orange juice may help support a healthy immune system as an excellent source of vitamin C and a good source of vitamin D in fortified juices. Vitamin C is commonly associated with helping maintain and strengthen healthy immune systems by protecting cells and promoting the production and function of immune cells. Mean-

while, vitamin D also plays an important role in regulating immune response by helping immune cells fight off bacteria and viruses. “Safeguarding your health against the spread of illness is important year-round, especially during colder months when reports of cold and flu increase,” said Dr. Rosa Walsh, director of scientific research at the Florida Department of Citrus. “A key step in supporting your immune system is maintaining a well-balanced diet that is high in essential nutrients. Incorporating an 8-ounce glass of 100% orange juice can help you meet the recommended daily value of vitamin C and support your hydration.” Beneficial plant compounds, like those in Florida Orange Juice, along with flavonoids and colorful carotenoids work to support the immune system by fighting inflammation and helping cells communicate, which can help strengthen immune responses when encountering infections. Additionally, 100% orange juice is a source of phytonutrients like hesperidin, which has been shown in clinical studies to have antioxidant-like properties, heart health benefits and may help reduce inflammation. Hesperidin has also been linked with benefits related to cognitive function, immune system function and bone health.
