Assigned Josef Albers painting.

Looking at Josef Albers’ painting, the use of colors and layers makes my eyes move back and forth on the painting. The design of the gallery intends to transform the 2-dimensionally eye movement into a spatial experience.

The pavilion provide a space on the UofM campus for students to step back from busy school work and enjoy being outside. By using reflective material, the space isolated from its surrounding and allows students to rest and enjoy being in the indoor environment

process paper models

Starting from a paper model that frames and channels in two directions, me and my partner adopt the ideas of elevation and repetition in order to create an defined shelter space. The pavilion is isolated from its natural surrounding because of its reflective materiality. It provides a primary shelter space in the three tunnels and a secondary shelter which are the threshold defined by the shadow of the tunnels. Student can have a peaceful moment in the pavilion because it is successful isolated from its surrounding academic context and have a playful characteristic instead.
