My name is Charlie. A passionate student in University of Minnesota pursing BS degree in Architecture. As an international student, I have a strong interests in cultures and art. Therefore, aesthetic is one of the driving force in my design process as I believe architecture should show a relationship with humanity at its appearance beyond fulfilling the founction.
This portfolio contains selected works from fine art to design projects. Showcase my development through out architecture school, how art influence my view of architecture, and most importantly how I design.

The project provides a communial space for both local residents and artists, intends to provide ways to experience glassblowing to a boarder audiences beyond typical glassblowers. Considered glassblowing history, it has been an exclusive art form throughout history and still remains as a minority art. This project is an opportunity to reintroduce glassblowing to the public. To serve the needs for both the neighborhood and art district, the design combines Park, garden, living quarter, gallery, glassblowing studio altogether in an open space and organizes the different elements in a system that inspired by the amorphous structure of glass which captures its fluidity, flexibility and impermanence in the garden.

The pavilion provide a space on the UofM campus for students to step back from busy school work and enjoy being outside. By using reflective material, the space isolated from its surrounding and allows students to rest and enjoy being in the outdoor environment

process paper models
Starting from a paper model that frames and channels in two directions, me and my partner adopt the ideas of elevation and repetition in order to create an defined shelter space. The pavilion is isolated from its natural surrounding because of its reflective materiality. It provides a primary shelter space in the three tunnels and a secondary shelter which is the threshold defined by the shadow of the tunnels. Student can have a peaceful moment in the pavilion because it is successful isolated from its surrounding academic context and have a playful characteristic instead.

3 Dimensional Design/ sculpture 2016 Fall
Process of making a head mold. Dental Dental alginate and Plaster.
As the signature project of the course, I figured there isn’t a lot of thing can represent myself better than my face. For this reason, I decided to use turn my head into a light fixture. With the help from my professor, I did a life cast of my head with dental alginate and made it into a light cover with fiberglass. The process was a one in a life time experience and I am grafeful that I took the risk of pursuing a creativity idea.
