T
his month the industry is a hive of activity, busy and buzzing in anticipation of September’s design season. Jimmy MacDonald, Tent London’s Show Director and owner, recently told me, “People are dying to meet offline!” It seems that in a society driven by technology, where networking, business growth and product specification is available online at the simple touch of a button, trade shows are more important than ever because they provide that natural human element that virtual business lacks. Deborah Spencer, designjunction’s Show Director, sums up the importance for non-digital communication perfectly: “The internet is an important tool for product specification, however, it hasn’t negated the need to meet people face to face. Exhibitions still provide an important platform to meet directly with the target market. Visitors to a show are already in the right frame of mind to do business.” In the run up to the design scene’s busiest month, we start our series of event previews by taking a closer look at designjunction and Tent and Super Brands London. This issue includes exclusive interviews with both events’ Show Directors who identify key exhibitors to look out for as well as exciting additions to London Design Festival 2014’s diary. Elsewhere in this issue, Inex pays special attention to kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms with a dedicated focus. Highlights include Jacqui Hoctor, New Product Development Manager at kitchen specialist Best, discussing how statement hoods are becoming focal artistic pieces that combine both form and function on page 36, whilst on page 42 Martin Mongan, Managing Director at bathroom expert Hansgrohe, explains how to achieve the perfect bathroom balance between practical space and sublime sanctuary. In terms of trend forecasting, what do you think will be popular at this year’s show?
exhibitors from 27 companies have participated over the last eight years; the show has now become the definitive barometer for where design is at and where it is going. What sets it apart from other interior design trade shows? Tent London is statistically the most international trade show during the London Design Festival. What makes it unique is its mix of content and companies at various stages of development.
With 280 exhibitors it’s difficult to say, but we have previewed some amazing upholstery pieces, not as you might image! Why are trade shows so important for the design community? Trade shows provide the industry with deadlines and a massive opportunity to engage with an audience directly, they bring back the human aspect in an increasingly digital age. People are dying to meet offline!
The last few years has seen East London jump to the forefront of trend setting. What is it that makes this location a focal point for the design community? Increasingly East London is where the creative industries have decided to take up residence, but unlike other areas of London it hasn’t focused around just one industry such as publishing, it’s the very raw mix of industries that makes East London what it is; fashion, advertising, music, art, design and culture! What is the relationship between Tent London and Super Brands London? How did Tent London come about? Tent London the show was established to be an affordable incubator event for new designers and companies. Well over 1200
Tent London is for established independent designers and companies, and Super Brands is for global brands, all in interiors of course. INEX-ONLINE.COM

What do you value most about the design community? The design community are super industrious and this quality makes it all very exciting. From a personal viewpoint, what are your favorite styles, colors and products? I’m a complete sucker for contemporary craft. I live in a 300 year old French Huguenot house in East London, which we fill with hyper contrasting contemporary pieces from all over the world. I love a chaise and I think every lady should have a dressing table. Finally, what part of Tent 2014 are you most looking forward to? We have a very special show coming from Korea, called Constancy and Change, which I missed in Milan, so I can’t wait to see it. And the Heineken urban lounge is going to be allot of fun! During this September’s London Design Festival, designjunction will take over New Oxford Street’s 1960s Sorting Office, presenting a powerful line-up of renowned brands, unique installations, seminars and pop-up shops. Inex speaks to Show Director, Deborah Spencer, about this striking alternative to the traditional trade show.
“
Challenging the traditional trade show
We saw a gap in the market,” explains Deborah. “Central London was missing a commercial show with more creative energy, and a greater relevance to the A&D community. The big international brands had been absent from the UK for many years; we wanted to provide a platform for those cutting-edge labels to showcase in a more expressive environment. The backdrop of the venue is an important element to the show. designjunction presented an opportunity to showcase a much more curated selection of brands that focused exclusively on interiors and was organised by the very people who actually worked in the industry.” designjunction showcases world-class, cutting-edge design against challenging industrial spaces. The show breaks the mould of the traditional trade show, whilst striking the perfect balance between creative and commercial. Michael Sodeau – designjunction Creative Director – refers to the exhibition as, “A mini city within the industrial backdrop of the Sorting Office.” Each area of the show has a certain London feel and energy to it. The second floor has avenues and bigger stands, a bit like Bond Street, whilst the ground floor is like Shoreditch or Camden with lots going on and the first floor is a bit more refined, like Covent Garden. The show originally launched in Milan in 2011 where it attracted more than 21,000 visitors and received such a positive response that it was then transported to London for the annual London Design Festival. Having an international presence keeps the brand on-top of trends as well as tapping into new markets. Having a presence in Milan and New York makes the show internationally relevant, attracting new brands to London, while at the same time reaching out to new audiences world-wide. Deborah continues: “This year we’re bigger than ever with more than 180 brands joining us at the Sorting Office. There is an entire floor dedicated to retail stores, and for the first time, we’re taking over the basement of the building with a dedicated space for lightjunction. At the entrance to lightjunction, you can’t miss the impressive interactive lighting installation from Blackbody.” Last year lightjunction became the newest expansion of the show. This year, lightjunction is expanding into the basement of the Sorting Office, to create a dedicated area INEX-ONLINE.COM
for lighting brands, with a line-up of great lighting brands from Marset, Lightyears, Orsjo, Zero, Brokis, Buster + Punch and Innermost. “Within lightjunction, we’re excited to announce an industry ‘speed-dating’ set up, providing a platform for like-minded professionals and lighting industry VIPs to meet and connect,” explains Deborah. “Our aim is to introduce representatives from the world’s finest lighting brands, to meet directly with influential interior designers and professionals through scheduled one-to-one meetings.” Another feature for 2014 is the series of interactive Flash Factories, where the processes of industrial production will be brought to life, courtesy of some of the world’s leading manufacturers. Visitors will see bespoke ceramic tiles cut and hand-painted from Bert&May, crystal-cutting from Waterford Crystal and live upholstery making from Coakley & Cox. advantage of a late night shopping evening on Thursday night until 9.30pm – Outline Editions, Magma, Places & Spaces, Richard Brendon and Native Union are some of the shops to looks out for. “In terms of trend forecasting, technology is going to be popular at this year’s show,” continues Deborah. “From Blackbody’s interactive lighting installation and Jake Dyson’s new CSYS task lights to MINI’s collaboration with Dezeen. We will be opening debates, new ideas and challenging the way we think. New technology is also reflected within materials used for furniture with a new chair designed by Michael Sodeau in Hypetex – a carbon fibre developed by engineers from Formula One. “Companies are choosing how to market their brands more carefully. The internet is an important tool for product specification, however, it hasn’t negated the need to meet people face to face. Exhibitions still provide an important platform to meet directly with the target market. Visitors to the show are already in the right frame of mind to do business.” Also new for 2014 is the launch of a charity project alongside Anglepoise, where 10 of Britain’s leading designers have been approached to customise the iconic Type 75 mini desk lamp designed by Sir Kenneth Grange to raise funds for Teddy’s Wish. The resulting designs will be auctioned off on the opening night of the show where proceeds with go to the good cause. “The thing I love most about our design community is the people in it. We work in an industry with talented and enthusiastic individuals, who have the scope to try new technologies or to embrace traditional methods creating a diverse and interesting landscape for design,” concludes Deborah. designjunction takes place at the Sorting Office in New Oxford Street during London Design Festival, 1821 September. thedesignjunction.co.uk « INEX-ONLINE.COM

he MAISON&OBJET show first came to be nearly twenty years ago in Paris. Organised by SAFI, it is a leading international assembly for professionals working in the art of living in all its rich and varied expressions. The lifestyle show brings together a 360° product offering: decoration, design, furniture, accessories, textiles, fragrances, the world of children and tableware. The styles coexist in a multifaceted way, throughout the inventive show design that enlivens the spaces. This diversity is in line with the varied expectations of global markets. With each session, the great lifestyle platform, at the intersection of business and creativity, reveals solutions to visitors from around the world in search of uniqueness. The next MAISON&OBJET show INEX-ONLINE.COM
is scheduled in parallel with Paris Design Week in the nine halls of the Parc des Expositions, Paris Nord Villepinte. This year celebrates the roots of the event and promotes its development on two new continents, as there are now four annual shows: Paris in September and January, Singapore in March and Miami in May 2015. Though they share the common objective of uniting the many sectors of home decor, each of these four events has its own identity. Thanks to its magnitude – 250,000m2 of stands and 3000 exhibitors – and history, MAISON&OBJET Paris remains the most comprehensive of this palette of happenings. By keeping pace with fashion, it gives real-time readings of the changes in home decor and lifestyle. The spring and fall events are nevertheless distinguished by alternating special
exhibitions: MAISON&OBJET projets, which lends a more architectural dimension to September’s show, and MAISON&OBJET éditeurs, which heightens January’s decorating dynamic. One of the key characteristics of this new MAISON&OBJET Paris is the unprecedented development of the MAISON&OBJET projets show, which becomes a driving force of the luxury and design sector at MAISON&OBJET Paris in September, where it is closer to the MAISON&OBJET éditeurs and now! design à vivre shows. Setting the tone for an ‘architecture-oriented’ event, the show’s renewed presence in the front of Hall 7 is in conjunction with the introduction of the MAISON&OBJET projets Awards, created to honour the best interior design solutions and products presented at the show. Lastly, centrally repositioning the Business lounge within this environment fulfils the intention of simplifying the experience of international prescribers, who still form the most important clientele for this unquestionably upscale offer. maison-objet.com «

The restaurant looks out across a lake
he Gallery HBA has composed a heady pirouette of wildness and sophistication for Il Lago dei Cigni, the latest epicurean hotspot from the owners of the Buddha Bar St. Petersburg. This contemporary Italian fine dining restaurant impresses a sense of both wonder and contradiction through inspired design details that weave Russian folklore and the tale of the restaurant’s namesake, Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, with the idyllic nature of Krestovsky Island, where the favourites of Russia’s Tsars once resided. The result is a modern gourmet destination for the city’s aspirational residents and tastemakers alike. “There is an increased interest in design inspired by a region’s provenance – its history, mythology, artistry, etc., and this
offers an abundance of directions we can take when creating a place’s look and feel,” explains Inge Moore, Principal and Creative Director of The Gallery HBA. “Each project is a unique opportunity to create something spectacular. For Il Lago dei Cigni, the maypole folklore rooted in the customs of ancient forest dwellers, along with the island’s wild beauty and swan houses, influenced design details which provide intriguing allusions to St. Petersburg’s culture.” Nestled into the woodlands along a small pond, Il Lago dei Cigni has been newly built next to the “swan house” – the dwelling where the graceful birds which dot the island’s lakes live and breed. Across the lake, a white gazebo with a delicate rotunda further paints a romantic ambience. Panoramic, floor-to-ceiling INEX-ONLINE.COM

hewn from shimmering crystals interspersed with geometric copper wire talismen suggestive of magical forces at play in this enchanted place. Peter the Great’s vision for his new capital St. Petersburg is also honoured in The Gallery’s design concept for Il Lago dei Cigni. During his rule, the Tsar transformed the city into the “Venice of the North”, investing in palaces, engineering and shipbuilding to create a glittering attraction for European architects, scientists and thinkers. This spirit of intellectual pursuit
has been interpreted in a contemporary manner with numerous details to discover. Timber cabinets display intriguing curiosities as if scientific specimens meant for inspection: bespoke art fixtures have been crafted from magnifying glasses placed in front of wine bottle labels; glass domes exhibit mounted beetles or butterflies; small pen and ink studies of swans have been framed; and bundles of timeworn French manuscripts have been bound together with string into parcels. Some of the cabinets feature antiqued bronzed glass or backlit selenite back panels, adding to the sparkle in the room. “The owners of the restaurant, who also own the Buddha Bar in St. Petersburg, asked us to design a stylish destination that would attract the same calibre of fashionable guests,” continues Igne. “Il Lago dei Cigni is located on Krestovsky Island, an enclave where the great

and the good of the city reside and enjoy its equestrian and yacht clubs, so we created a style that would feel fresh and capture the imaginations of its sophisticated clientele.” Natural materials were specified, sometimes in their raw states, to emphasise the untamed spirit of the luxury ambience needed. Teak floors with beautiful graining, hammered copper, rich leathers, warm wools and, of course, the clefts of selenite rock crystals that form the centerpiece, are all layers within the design that together
build this atmosphere. Modern renditions of traditional Russian fabric motifs usher in subtle splashes of softness. Scrolled floral patterns in the scatter cushions and embossed metal reliefs recall time-honoured Slavic textile designs and the stylised interpretation of traditional lace doilies in the cut and loop expresso and cream carpeting adds a sophisticated touch of femininity. Above the bar, lighting crafted from hand-blown Czech glass casts a warm glimmer. Tucked away behind sliding timber doors with hammered copper handles, Il Lago de Cigni’s private dining space is a cosy haven which glows from the glazed antiqued mirror covering the back wall and a Czech glass chandelier. The restaurant’s rarest vintages and varietals are exhibited in bespoke handcrafted wine cabinets.
“By juxtaposing passion and edginess with tranquillity and heritage, we have created a unique dining experience that is new to the traditions of St. Petersburg and Krestovsky Island and is also a relaxing enclave to see and be seen in. My favourite detail is definitely the selenite maypole. When kids enter the room, they run to touch it – and the adults would do the same but they practice more restraint!” concludes Inge. hba.com «

Amongst other tantalising treats, customers find authentic antipasti, salads, pastries, speciality breads and a range of ingredients. My Pasta Bar brings a taste of a bustling Italian marketplace to the streets of London. The unique rustic deli feel is peppered with inspiration from Gino’s home city of Naples as Clare Wood, associate at Millson, explains: “We were keen that themes from Italy, in particular Naples, featured heavily in this space and helped bring to life the food environment that the client had briefed us on. We used reclaimed timber, terracotta lights and herringbone tiling, while images from South Italy adorn the walls.” The team’s Neopolitan design incorporated many elements to create the outdoor feeling of a market - from adjustable shelving to showcase the array of fresh and dry produce and the suspended signage, to the classic herring bone tiling a nod to Italy’s via’s. The combination of a sit in area in addition to the deli counter and bakery have been specifically created to encourage customers not only to enjoy eating within the concept, but also to inspire the making of Italian food at home. or this installation, Kapital Estates – the developer of this ambitious project – needed to achieve outstanding quality and exclusivity befitting a duplex, set in the heart of Belgravia, encompassing over 3,250ft2 spread across two floors and valued at £7.7m. The renovation and build of the duplex itself embraces the magnificent original features of the building, while at the same time creates elegant modern living space throughout. Comprising entrance, reception, dining, cloakroom, kitchen/hall and three bedrooms all with en suite and a dressing room within the master - the layout is logical and flows from one area to another. Lighting system expert Hamilton Litesat have used the latest control systems to create an effortless lighting solution. The stunning project presented Hamilton Litestat with a perfect opportunity to showcase its bespoke decorative wiring accessory ranges and to demonstrate the impressive ability of Mercury – the company’s unique lighting control system. elegance. A comprehensive, easy-to-use dimming and control solution was installed throughout the property, delivering complete control of a variety of lighting scenarios; from simple dimming to scene-setting programmes, which can be set, stored and recalled with ease, a bespoke system was built to accommodate the requirements of the project. The installation included a master control hub, wall-mounted control plates and a remote control facility via iPad/iPhone using Hamilton’s downloadable app. Each and every control plate was individually designed and built to meet the exact specifications of the function needed within each room. For example; on entering the duplex you are met with a master control plate incorporating eight push programmable buttons, LED’s
indication on scenes, four scene recall plus four raise/lower, on/off buttons and an IR receiver. Other rooms, such as the bedroom, used a combination of master and slave control plates, controlling the main room lighting and bedside lamps respectively. Every button on each plate had a purpose. Ian Hamilton, Managing Director of Hamilton Litestat, explains why lighting control systems offer creative versatility: “Lighting control installations allow users to transform a space with light to create different lighting scenarios via pre-programmed or flexible settings. But it’s not just about lighting control, as systems are often integrated with audio control and home automation. We are seeing a growth in demand for home automation products and systems and manufacturers are

The art of hood design With the current trend for contemporary open-plan kitchen design, extraction is a key consideration. Jacqui Hoctor, New Product Development Manager at kitchen specialists Best, discusses how hoods are becoming focal artistic pieces that combine both form and function.

he market for extraction is advancing more quickly than ever before. Design-led hoods are now among the most popular on the market and detail is really making the difference – whether this be a subtle touch of colour or the design of the hood itself. Statement styling alone is of course not enough – the consumer is looking for a combination of both style and the latest technological advancements to take their contemporary kitchen to the next level. Function, particularly at the top end of the market where large
open plan kitchens are common, is very important. Powerful extraction is a must-have feature for buyers wanting to keep spaces fresh for entertaining. One such technological advancement is hoods that offer automated controls, taking the thinking out of hood operation. The technology switches the hood on as soon as odours, gas, steam or smoke are detected by the sensors. The correct speed is automatically regulated and extraction will continue for a few minutes after all residual odours have been eliminated. It improves

impact on any design schemes. Wall Mounted Hoods: Fit neatly against the wall and are ideal for those with limited space. Includes traditional chimney style hoods, as well as stylish hoods which sit neatly against the wall: perfect for those or who are taller and want to avoid banging their heads! Downdraft Hoods: Mainly used in island units, these hoods rise from the work surface and are neatly hidden away when they are not in use. Island/Pendant Hoods: Hang down from the ceiling and are commonly installed above a kitchen island or close to a wall. These hoods look great in pairs and are commonly fitted above a larger hob or even a dining table. How do I know what rate of extraction is needed? To calculate the required extraction rate, you need to multiply the total space of the open plan room by 10. For instance: An open plan room which is 5x6m2 and which has a ceiling of 2.3m high, requires a cooker hood with an extraction rate of (5x6x2.3)x10 = 690 m3/h. What are the practical considerations?

With so many options to choose from, picking the right hood for a project can be tricky, so here are some key considerations for narrowing down options: What style of hood will suit? With any cooker hood you will need to consider whether to duct out or recycle the air. If the kitchen is not well ventilated and there are problems with condensation, then you should install a hood which is ducted out. A ducted hood will not only remove smells, it will also remove steam and reduce condensation and will circulate at least 30% more air than hoods in recycling mode. If you are contemplating an island hood, you need to make sure that the ceiling is sound. If you have the island hood ducted out, then you also need to carefully consider the route for the ducting, as it is not possible to run ducting in the opposite direction to the joists. besthoods.co.uk ÂŤ

Creating a dream bedroom When revamping a bedroom, it can be easy to stick with the tried and tested. However, many businesses are wising up to the idea of customisation, enabling designers and consumers alike to create a completely bespoke product. Here, Chris Ward, Marketing Director for Hypnos, explores the latest bed trends and looks at the many options that customers can make the most of when designing a dream bed. INEX-ONLINE.COM
T
here’s no doubt that creating the perfect, tranquil bedroom starts with one very important piece of furniture - the bed. Whether you’re looking to create a flamboyant bedroom or a more classic look, making sure the bed is used to maximum visual effect is the first step in building a bedroom that your client is going to love spending time in. And while the function of the bed is an important part of revamping the room and giving it a new lease of life, it’s vital that the bed’s overall appearance isn’t overlooked. Homeowners have previously been more reserved in their approach to beds and bedding, with many preferring to lean towards more muted tones, but we are now starting to see a
trend for bold explosions of colour and the use of dramatic statement headboards. While beds and headboards in neutral shades such as brown and cream have traditionally been popular, daring designers are now opting for bright greens, electric yellows and vivid reds, in a bid to revamp their bedroom and make a real style statement. The best way to create a fun and exciting interior is to make use of statement furniture that will create an attention grabbing focal point. Often, the only way to truly produce such a stunning centrepiece is to design an entirely bespoke item. By designing a oneof-a-kind piece of furniture, you can really zone in on every aesthetic element to ensure that it’s exactly what is required.

Many businesses are now offering customers the chance to make a product their own through customisation. This applies to everything from phone cases to furniture. Take Louis Vuitton - it now offers customers the chance to monogram a bag, while at Hypnos, we offer them the chance to choose from a multitude of divan bases, feet, fabrics and standout headboards in order to create their unique dream look. A striking designer headboard is just one element of bedding that has grown in popularity, in part thanks to the influence of boutique hotel bedrooms, and has resulted in the availability of a wider choice of headboards both in terms of size, shape and colour. Customers are no longer restricted to choosing between a simple wooden or plain coloured headboard, instead they can opt for bold colours such as burnt orange or deep plum, as well as intricate geometrics and tartan to subtle polka dots. There is also a rising trend in upholstering headboards to give a truly decadent and luxurious finish to a bedroom. Fabric headboards with buttoning, piping, pleats, studding and other elegant detailing can add texture and interest to a space as well as a
sense of structure and unity. By coordinating the divan base fabric with the headboard, designers can create a sense of harmony and a sophisticated and premium finish to their interior design. For a truly bespoke look, the fabric used on the bed can also be incorporated into other elements of the room, such as upholstered armchairs, accent cushions or even curtains. But it’s not just the colour and texture of the headboard that gives it the wow factor – selecting a frame with a unique shape can provide a spectacular focal point for the room. Add a winged headboard, or a headboard which runs all the way to the floor, and you’ve got a striking bed that will become the focal point of any room. Of course a bed must be more
than just aesthetically pleasing – the right mattress is essential. Hypnos specialises in hand crafting pocket sprung mattresses which are designed to actively minimise pressure points on the body, helping to increase blood circulation and alleviate tension. The independent movement of each individual pocket spring also means that the mattress will mould itself to your body, leading to a natural alignment of your spine. The demand for bespoke design will continue to grow as consumers crave the ability to make something unique for their home. This coupled with brighter colours means that we can expect to see bedrooms across the UK looking bolder than ever, with a beautiful bed at the heart of them. hypnosbeds.com « INEX-ONLINE.COM

Whether a tiny room in a town apartment or a large open-plan space in a country house, the bathroom has to work hard in the home; it has to be well-designed and equipped to fulfil basic functional needs and also serve as a private sanctuary that enhances wellbeing. Martin Mongan, Managing Director at Hansgrohe, explains how to achieve the perfect balance.
A
t the high-end of the market, bathrooms are often status symbols to show off to friends and visitors. The cloakroom in particular has become the focus of lavish attention with items like waterfall basin taps made from crystal glass, mosaic made from iridescent glass or precious metals and sensorcontrolled lighting. The dinner party guest is impressed and imagines even higher levels of comfort in the private bathrooms. These too have changed in recent years. The master ensuite used to be small and functional and the main family bathroom the most generous in size and best equipped, but in luxury detached properties the master ensuite is often the most luxurious and the inner sanctum of the home. It is a place of calm and escape, a place to slow down, relax and enjoy some quality time away from the rest of the family. It is here we find the sculptural freestanding bath, large walkin shower with choice of large overhead and hand showers, ‘his and hers’ basins, ambient LED lighting, underfloor heating, soft seating and beautiful tiling. Product personalisation is popular and will continue to grow as confident, design-conscious consumers seek to make their homes their own by implementing tailor-made solutions. In the bathroom, this could range from choosing a special colour finish for brassware or positioning the basin tap exactly where needed, e.g. for a left-handed user. In urban areas where space is constricted, the concept of ‘iceberg homes’ is a growing phenomenon. Wealthy homeowners dig down into the ground to create their own leisure and wellbeing basement level. This can range from private cinemas, to games rooms, fullyequipped gyms and wellbeing products including sauna, steam room and, in some cases, an indoor swimming pool.
43 BATHROOM
In middle market to high-end properties generally, the bathroom as a home spa and sanctuary is a theme we are expecting to develop. This is apparent from leading UK retail showrooms who are already starting to dedicate large areas of their showrooms to this trend. Products that promote health and wellbeing will become a feature of the best bathrooms going forward - steam, sauna and large wetroom areas decorated in natural stone with fantastic multi-functional showering. With the bathroom being regarded as a place of well-being, somewhere where you can switch off and recharge, it poses an interesting challenge for technology. Automation has its place, but is not always the answer to what people need which is products which are simple, familiar and intuitive to use. It’s a fun idea to switch the shower on remotely before you get out of bed, but how many people will regularly use this function? Complex smart controls and home automation also require expert installation and like any electronics can go wrong, which again does not promote peace of mind. The bathroom is the last place where you want to be dealing with anything stressful. At Hansgrohe, our approach has been to develop an entire shower programme with simple push button controls that are familiar and enjoyable to use. They work on a ballpoint pen principal of click on and off with no

complex electronics and thus are also easy install and no user instructions are required. Intuitive products are appreciated by all ages, important criteria considering we have an ageing population in the UK and Europe. This means fewer dials to grab and turn and user-friendly operation that require neither reading glasses nor electronic devices. The bathroom will remain a sanctuary so life-enhancing electronics only will become mainstream such as integrated music and intelligent lighting e.g. a night light which comes automatically after dark, PrivaLight glass for windows and also for shower screens. Product efficiency in the bathroom will be one of the strongest trends for the foreseeable future. At the moment, we discuss water-saving but increasingly the focus is expanding to energy saving, sustainable production, lifecycle costs and even micro measures such as ‘embedded water’ which considers not only how much water a tap uses when in use, but also how much water was required as part of the production process to make it. The professional building industry has already set off down this path, but end consumers too are beginning to engage. Reduced water and energy bills are a tangible benefit and education, such as that provided by The Water Label scheme, are helping consumers to understand that technology is enabling products to deliver greater efficiency that in no way affects performance, enjoyment or design. The latest products are quite simply better. hansgrohe.co.uk « INEX-ONLINE.COM

t has been a very interesting time for Grosvenor Wilton. Last year they were commissioned to produce the carpets for the sets of ITV series Downton Abbey and May 2014 saw Kidderminster-based carpet manufacturer Grosvenor Wilton, one of the UK’s finest and oldest carpet manufacturers, launch its first retail range. The British-made Diversity Collection is based on classic retro designs and modern colours. Grosvenor Wilton’s new Diversity Collection transfers the company’s expertise in specialist restoration, historic and interior-designer markets to retail carpeting. The 12 launch designs are united by the idea of ‘a fusion of heritage and fresh new design’.
