Love Stage Photobook

Course: History of contemporary art Teachers: Paolo Castelli, Sergio Giusti Typology: individual project Concept: monographic analysis of a contemporary photographer

For the unit of photography in the course of Contemporary Art we have been asked to realize an editorial about a photographer. I chose the english-based photographer Natasha Caruana, known for her not really post-producted shoots where her subjects play a specific role. She composed her lifetime job in a series of photos with a leitmotiv that connects all of them: love. Caruana speaks about love in all its aspects, that's because I chose to divide her shoots in categories, represented by a series each. romance with the series ‘AT FIRST SIGHT’; intuition with the series ‘FAIRYTALE FOR SALE’; allusion with the series ‘MARRIED MAN’; betrayal with the series ‘THE OTHER WOMAN’. self-love didn't make the cut because of the limitation of 30 pages, with the series ‘LOVE BOMB’ the photographer explores the pleasure of masturbation.

Course: History of ontemporary art Teachers: Paolo Castelli, Sergio Giusti Typology: individual project Concept: monographic analysis of visual communication

For the unit of visual communications of the course we have been asked to realize an analysis of three subjects: 1 Title Design and 2 Video Essays/Supercuts. For the Title Design I chose the American Horror Story opening, broadcasted by FX and composed by 7 seasons with 7 different opening titles. The first Video Essay is Alfred Hitchcock's Close-ups, edited by Jorge Luengo in which he gathered all the close-ups in Hitchcock's films. The second Video Essay chosen is Red: A Kubrick Supercut, in which Rishi Kaneria, the editor, put together all the scene in which the red is the dominant chromatic tone.

MADE FOR WALKIN’

Course: Storytelling Techniques Teachers: Davide Pinardi Typology: Group Project Writing, casting, shooting, post-production

1 minute long video realized during the course of storytelling held by professor Pinardi. Aim of the course was to excercise on the creative writing of a story with the main focus of a design object (in this case Dr. Martens). The campaign is meant to clear the cliché of the punk who wears the boot, showing that even the most elegant girl can hide a "rock" side. The song chosen is These Boots are Made for Walking - Planet Funk, cover of the famous Nancy Sinatra. The claim of the video is inspired by the song with an add: "START WALKING", to push the viewer to follow the protagonists.

Ragazzo sui 25 anni, alto e dal fisico atletico. Ha i capelli lunghi, scuri e che ricadono in modo disordinato sulle spalle, una barba abbastanza folta, ma curata e occhi contornati dalla matita nera leggermente sbavata. Indossa vestiti rock/alternativi come jeans neri skinny leggermente trasandati e strappati sulle ginocchia, una catenella di acciao appesa ai passanti penzolante da un lato, maglietta nera della sua band rock preferita, maglione slabbrato e giubbotto di pelle rigorosamente nero. Ai piedi porta un paio di Dr. Martens nere modello 1460 e leggermente segnate dall’usura. Ha dei piercing e porta alle dita degli anelli in acciaio molto particolari e vistosi. Si dimostra sicuro di sè, spavaldo, orgoglioso del suo look e di ricevere tanta ammirazione nonostante non ne approfitti mai.

Concept

Main Character

Every story carries a conflict that, in our case, wants to convey the versatile character of Dr. Martens, capable of adapting through different styles that, apparently, seem incompatible, but are always loyal to their personality. The encounter becomes dominant in the video we created.

Idea Love at first sight - in a street-urban context - between a girl and a boy with a bond represented by the boots they wear.

Ragazza ideale

The boots have an important role in this story. Ragazza tra i 20-25 anni, minuta e dal fisico sottile. Ha i capelli castani ben pettinati, porta long bob con frangia ed è solita avere un make-up acqua e sapone che esalta il suo viso dai lineamenti delicati. Indossa un abitino nero, collant neri velati, un trench rosso classico ed elegante con una sciarpa celeste. Il suo sguardo è dolce, ma allo stesso tempo deciso e compiaciuto delle attenzioni ricevute dal protagonista.

Ideal Girl

Claim “Made for walking? Start walking” is a question that encloses the entire sense of the video. With this claim we want to convey the idea that the potential to follow the Dr. Martens brand is inherent in everyone, the only way to awaken it is to follow the flow.

The brand Versatile, iconic, characterized by a strong identity: in the course of the decades they told the evolution of styles and trends, asapting to generations and different contexts, but carrying a strong identity. From the most underground style to the refined one: the sides of the Dr. Martens are numerous and full of charm.

Il Laboratorio di Disegno del primo anno ha dato basi di tecniche pittoriche e figurative, ma anche di editing video e motion. Infatti ci è stato chiesto di ideare un video ispirato ad Escher e alle sue opere visionarie. Ideazione delle tavole preparatorie per lo stile e uno storyboard. Il video è accompagnato da un motion poster 1080x70p e una locandina.

Insomnia Il concept del video è l’ansia, rappresentata dai sogni lucidi che si hanno quando non si riesce a dormire. Infatti il cervello è ancora in veglia ma noi viaggiamo con l’immaginazione come se fossimo in un sogno. Il protagonista è visualizzato dagli occhi sbarrati, tormentato da pensieri che gli vietano di dormire. Mondi infiniti, loop di entità senza pace, architetture monumentali e impossibili, distorsioni e glitch. Le ore che passano e il crescere del tappeto sonoro aumentano la sensazione di ansia fino al suono della sveglia.

Post-digital Fairytales Workshop Typology: Group Project Concept: creation of an Instagram page in which the viewer, in order to continue the story, is called to follow the hashtags

For the workshop "Post-Digital Fairytales" we've been called to find a post digital challenge: a problem of the XI century and visualize it in a famous fairytale. Our post-digital challenge: perpetual search of the truth on search engines. Tale: "The little Match Girl" by H.C. Andersen

There is a world, beyond our own, where everything seems to be more beautiful, the truth is fleeting and the search risks to become more than ever tortous. This and even more happens in the World Wide Web, a virtual reality in which, thanks to the vast amount of information, every action and thought becomes almost concrete, but it paradoxically tangles us up in the web. Taking inspiration from “The Little Match Girl” fairytale by Hans Andersen, we created a gaming experience in which the

time spent in the virtual reality is the main theme. As the little girl lights up all her matches in order to reach visions that are better than her reality, millions of users rely on the Internet to make their own desires concrete, obtaining in return only a waste of their time. Through mini games and choices, the users will realize how deep this other dimension can be, and how easily the view of reality can be obscured.

« through the eye of a bride left by her spouse at the altar. she is not going to let him win, she is staring at the viewer with all her pride. her strength lies in what she believes, and now she concluded that the only being who can truly love her, is herself. » Editorial in which photos of a trip in Genoa, Italy, meet the portraits taken during photography class. The idea was to tell a story of a woman, left at the altar by her spouse. The style is baroque, the context is meant to be dark and the portraits are made using a plexiglas panel in which we vaporized water to focus the viewer's attention to particular parts of the model.

This is a life reportage of a 21 years old chemistry-student boy who in the night becomes a Drag Queen. From Genoa to Milan, he becomes a resident queen at an famous Toilet disco in Milan, where every night drag queens, performers, actors and artists like to make the audience dream.

Affido Anziani

Course: Final Synthesis Lab Teachers: V. Bucchetti, U. Tolino, P. Visconti Typology: group project Thesis Project

For the Final Thesis Lab we designed a system of communication artifacts aimed to support their operations. Affido Anziani was born in 1998 as a consequence to the desire of dialoge of lone elderly people. These individuals are contacted by social services near them with the aim to be assignated of a volunteer. The volunteer (affidatario in italian, n.d.r.) helps the assignated who is matched with him by the psychologists with the everyday needs like shopping, medical exams but is also the one who's in charge of the readjustment of the elder in the society. He can do it using his method developed during the period of training in class. The decision we made was to project a deck of 52 cards with the aim to give them hints and ideas in order to develop conversation topics, and to create a connection that can be, later, developed and strengthened.

DESIGN x WELFARE Degree Thesis

We defined a concept: to create a tool that is helpful to fix issues between the couple and to fasten the first encounters. We then started thinking about what tool to design, after a period of research and interviews the final proposal went on a deck of cards. Every seed has a theme: personality for hearts, themes for diamonds, fantasy for clubs, curiosity for spades.
