Managing Family Life as a Business Owner

Having been in business for many years, and for the past 12yrs with my family of 4 around, it can be quite challenging.

I now have grandchildren to fit into my world which is blissfully wonderful. My children have all grown and flown the nest except one, who did fly for 18mths and now has returned home to study. She's my 21yr old and a delight to have at home again.

It sure is a challenge to juggle all the balls while having family. There are some things that I would have done differently but the lessons I learnt along the way have been valuable, so I will share some with you to encourage you to thrive, not just survive in your business.

One of the essentials for keeping the passion and balance in family life and business... PRIORITISE.

Working out what is important is the first step. As Christian women, I think we all know our God given calling to our families. We only get one chance to be that mum who our kids need, regardless of their age. Fitting too much into our lives can rob us of precious moments, and now as I have an almost empty home, I realise there is no second chance, we can't rewind the clock, as much as I'd like to at times, and have them all home, little again. It is lovely to see them come home with their own babies.

Keeping yourself in a healthy, positive state is essential. Giving your family the TIME they need when they need it is how they spell LOVE. You know the saying, "if mum is happy, everyone is happy?" or "a happy wife, a happy life?" Its true.

Proverbs 31 does give a good description of the mum and business woman. Challenging but quite true. We have the capacity to do so much, stretch ourselves to cater for all those around us, and a bit more.

Thriving in that is really important and I want to share some things with you on how you can thrive, love what you do, hold your joy and peace and be fruitful in everything.

A few tips to making sure you are taking good care of you...

word

Your time in the Word, time with God can really start your day off well.

health

Your health is essential, eat well, prepare your meals and maintain family times around the table. This is gold. Developing your family habits will enrich you and give you a great sense of achievement when you are sowing into the hearts of your family.

dates

Spend time with your husband, book in those date nights, and don't cancel, NO Compromise.

chill

Turn off the TV and take a bath, lots of bubbles and champagne if you like, listen to some soothing music, and relax.

friends

Spend some time with girlfriends, make a coffee date weekly.

relax

Book a massage, monthly. This will help ease stress and help your muscles healthy.

exercise

Exercise. Find a gym or a walking buddy. Get out and enjoy the fresh air and surrounds, go camping with the family.

pamper

Get your hair done, have a facial, and do your nails. This will help you feel special, cared for and its amazing, its an essential for your confidence and sets a good example for your children that mum is worthy. Your husband will appreciate that you are looking after yourself.

Investing in yourself will have long lasting benefits ...

a healthier you, physically, spiritually and emotionally. A happier mum, wife and friend. Start now and feel the benefits. We all have the same number of hours in the day and we get to choose how we use them. Planning is key. Living a life on purpose, with the end in mind, will definitely have great benefits to you and all those around you. And on a last note... this was a wise person who told me this and it has been with me a very long time.

"Whatever you say yes to, you are saying no to something else."

May your go into your future with a healthy balance and be blessed.

Much love Robyn Robertson
