I’m not usually one of those people who says this, but seriously, how is the year almost over already? I don’t know about you beautiful lady, but for me it’s felt like this year has just whooshed by!

As we come up to all the joy and excitement of Christmas and celebrating the birth of our Saviour, there is also the opportunity to slow the pace.

Personally, I’m taking 10 whole glorious days off for some rest and recovery where I will pause and reflect on the year that’s been and the year that’s about to be; I can’t wait! I really hope and pray you’re taking some time out beautiful lady too; after all, rest is Godly…

“It’s useless to rise early and go to bed late, and work your worried fingers to the bone. Don’t you know he enjoys giving rest to those he loves?” Psalm 127:2 MSG

So with that in mind, here are my top four things can you do to recover and recharge your energy levels at the end of this year in preparation for 2019.

1Let your body rest. For me this is going to look like sleep (and lots of it!) and doing less physically than I usually would. Being a fitness instructor, it’s a pretty physically demanding job and I’m usually up super early to train people before they start their workday so I really value the contrast of times of body rest.

No matter what you do day-to-day, you most probably are getting less sleep than you should and buzzing around on adrenaline too amazing lady. God created us to have periods of going hard, and periods of rest. In our culture unfortunately however we often have long periods of going hard and minimal rest. Be sure to let your body recalibrate and restore beautiful lady.

Rest and recovery is an investment of your time that will enable you to do what you’ve been called to with more grace and ease. We need to see rest as a way to PREPARE not just to REPAIR.

BeStilland listen for the whisper...

2Let your mind rest. For me this is going to look like a rest on learning (I love learning and anything related to personal growth!) and limiting technology. I like to block out technology free time and also delete apps that I don’t need/want to use over the holidays just so that I’m not tempted to check in.

As a woman in business there’s usually a million and one things happening in our brains at any one time. What do you need to do to give your mind time to be still? There’s even recent research that suggests that being bored is good for your brain; it frees up space to dream and create. Now how about that?

3Let your spirit rest. It takes a lot to do Godly business am I right? We need to seek Him daily and vigilant in prayer. But I’ve also learnt this year that it’s so easy to slip into spiritual striving (the enemy would love us to do that!) There are times where we are to be proactive yes indeed, but there are times that He ordains for us to rest. Romans 8:34 says that Jesus is seated at the right hand of God, is interceding on our behalf. What freedom there is in knowing that we are able to be completely at rest in Him and carefree in His care don’t you think?

So for me, if I don’t have intense prayer time, or read a huge chunk of my Bible for a few days I’m not going to let the enemy make me feel guilty about it. God knows where my heart is for Him. If Jesus can be asleep in the hull of a boat as a storm was raging outside totally at peace that His Father had it all under control, I can enjoy a few days holiday too.

4Do lots of that ‘good for your soul’ kinda stuff. We’re all wired differently, but whatever it is that fills you up, be sure to include plenty of that in your time of rest and recovery. For me it’s sleep ins with cups of tea in bed and a good book, watercolour painting sessions with my daughter (I’m not very good but that’s not the point really is it?) and lots of leisurely beach walks. Bring it on I say!

Now it’s over to you. Are you ready to take some time to rest and repair from all the amazing life-changing, world-shaking things you did in 2018, and to prepare for all the mountains He has for you to climb and conquer in 2019? (I hope you said yes!). Wishing you much rest and recovery over the next few weeks, and a new year full of health, happiness and great God-sized adventures.

with love, Stace
