News and Announcements Christ Lutheran Church Eagan Minnesota

July 10th, 2016

VERSE of the Week:

“…the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45)

Something worth following During Jesus’ time on earth, He attracted a lot of attention. From the time of His first miracle at a wedding, people followed Him. When Jesus healed or helped someone, the crowds often grew larger. People anxious about their health, their loved ones, or their sins traveled to see and hear Jesus. They put aside other things in their busy lives, hoping for compassion and help from Him. Jesus blessed these followers. He fed them, taught them about God’s kingdom, and healed their illnesses. He even raised some of them from the dead! There was one place where not many people followed Jesus. When our Savior hung on the cross, most of His followers ran away. Perhaps they were afraid they would be lied about and brutally punished too. Perhaps they had trouble understanding how that man, nailed to the

cross with criminals, could really be God’s Son. Maybe they felt that if Jesus dies, He would not be able to help them again. They should have stayed! For when He died, He gave them His best and most important gift. His death was not the end. Three days later, God raised Jesus from the grave. His resurrection was the beginning of new life and forgiveness of sins for a dying world. Now, two thousand years later, the Good News of God’s grace in Jesus still attracts people. Christ’s followers gather around crosses in churches and homes to read God’s Word and receive the Sacraments. They pray in Jesus’ name, confessing their sins and trusting in His promises. Through the work of Jesus on the cross, sinners find forgiveness of sins, help and healing for troubles, and hope for the future.

Upcoming Meetings and Events Constitution committee meeting: The next Constitution Committee meeting will be Tuesday, July 19 at 7:00. All are welcome to attend, or you may send your concerns to Kelly Callahan at lovelandexpress2@gmail.com. The "Lead Like Jesus" study will continue on Sunday, June 26th with a repeat of lesson 3. Through this study we will hopefully experience Jesus in a new and different way, as we grow to trust and follow Him, as we seek to come together and lead others to the Cross. To provide some flexibility to your summer schedule the 1st and 2nd Sundays of each month will be the same lesson, as well as the 3rd and 4th Sundays. Both May and July have a 5th Sunday on which there will just be fellowship time together as a church family. It is my prayer and desire that "Lead Like Jesus" will be the beginning of a new and exciting chapter in our journey to becoming effective servant leaders as we gather together to be fed and strengthened through God's Word and teachings. Join Us on Sunday July 31st: Following the service on July 31st there will be two special presentations with a light meal. Ellen, Christopher, and Matho will be sharing their experiences at the National Youth Gathering in New Orleans and Hannah Hartog will be sharing her experiences from her mission trip in Budapest, Hungary. Hungarian Goulash and Pecan Pie will be

served. These four are excited to share their experiences with the congregation and we hope to see you all there!

Get Involved Constitution and By-Laws Committee: The Church Council is seeking volunteers to be part of a committee to examine and propose changes to the Constitution and ByLaws.
