News and Announcements Christ Lutheran Church Eagan Minnesota
August 21st, 2016
Verse of the Week:
Thoughts from Pastor Heggen: “The time is coming to gather all nations and tongues. And they shall come and shall see my glory…. And from them I will send survivors to the nations. And they shall declare my glory among the nations. And they shall bring all your brothers from all the nations as an offering to the Lord. And some of them also I will take for priests and for Levites, says the Lord.” Today’s Old Testament Reading (Isaiah 66:18-23) is a magnificent vision of a restored Jerusalem, and these verses conclude the Book of Isaiah. Today the Lord sends His disciples to declare His glory. The message of invitation spoken by God’s people brings others from all nations into His temple as an offering to God, as people able to participate fully in the sacramental actions and worship of God’s people. God calls His missionaries (that’s us) “survivors” (v. 19). Originally this portion of Isaiah was written to “survivors” of the Babylonian captivity. Who better to proclaim the saving goodness of God? Who else today could better proclaim the Good News of the Gospel than those who have faced the judgment of the Law and in God’s grace in Christ have “survived”? Our role today as God’s “survivors” gathered together is not to hoard this sign of God’s grace in our midst, but to be sent as emissaries with a particular story to tell – to declare God’s glory. Notice the value and the promise God sees in the people we invite to His holy temple (church). They are “an offering to the Lord,” on a par with our offerings of time, talent, and treasure. And some of them God will take as “priests” – as pastors, teachers, deaconesses, directors of Christian education, missionaries, chaplains.

Upcoming Meetings and Events The "Lead Like Jesus" study will continue every Sunday morning. Through this study, we will hopefully experience Jesus in a new and different way, as we grow to trust and follow Him and as we seek to come together and lead others to the Cross. To provide some flexibility to your summer schedule the 1st and 2nd Sundays of each month will be the same lesson, as well as the 3rd and 4th Sundays. It is my prayer and desire that "Lead Like Jesus" will be the beginning of a new and exciting chapter in our journey to becoming effective servant leaders as we gather together to be fed and strengthened through God's Word and teachings. Community Blood Drive: On Thursday, September 8th, Christ Lutheran Church will be sponsoring a Red Cross blood drive from 12:00-5:00 pm. To schedule appointments please call 1-800-REDCROSS (800-733-2767) or register online at www.redcrossblood.org and enter sponsor code: Christ Luth Church. There is also a sign-up sheet in the narthex.
Rally day: Please join us on Sunday, September 11, at 11:15 for a picnic lunch and games to kick off the Sunday School and Bible Class year. Hot dogs and chips will be provided. If possible, please bring a dessert to share. This fun event is for all of the congregation. See you there!
