VERSE of the Week:
“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1) New Skin Insects have life stages. Their life cycle includes egg, larva, pupae, and adult insect. It is interesting when an insect emerges as an adult. Moths crawl out of their cocoons, butterflies break our of their chrysalides, and cicadas leave behind their old skin. When Adam and Eve first lived in the Garden, they walked around in nothing but their skin. After they had sinned, the dressed in animal skins. Because of that first sin, we are born into sin. We are sinners, and we need new skin. Instead of putting us in a cocoon, God gave us new life in a special way—Baptism. In Baptism, we receive not just new skin, but new life and faith. Martin Luther tells us we call our old life “old Adam”. In Baptism, we receive forgiveness. Through the work of the Holy Spirit, we have faith. Part of the blessing of Baptism and the Spirit living in us is that the Spirit helps us to put down the “old Adam” so our new life in Christ can show. Remember that you are a new child in Baptism. Remember that God forgives your sins. Remember that the Spirit works to let your faith show to others. Romans 6:3-4
