Living Lent as People of the Resurrection

Join us for Living Lent, a special series of services for the season of Lent. Each service in this series focuses on a word to consider while living Lent as Easter people. Ash Wednesday, February 10th at 7pm The Ash Wednesday service on February 10th, is based on the word PONDER and reminds us that Lent is a time to ponder our relationship with God and with one another and to discover the love of God seen in the cross and empty tomb. Mid-Week Lenten Service Wednesday, February 17th at 7pm Week One, February 17th, is based on the word PURPOSE and reminds us that Lent is a time to find God’s purpose for our lives, fulfilled in our redemption by Jesus, who seeks and saves the lost and gives us new life. Mid-Week Lenten Service Wednesday, February 24th at 7pm Week Two, February 24th, is based on the word PEOPLE and reminds us that we are called to be among people in this world. People matter to God; He sent Jesus to save them. People should matter to us; we are sent to love them. Mid-Week Lenten Service Wednesday, March 2nd at 7pm Week Three, March 2nd, is based on the word PROCLAIM and reminds us that our proclamation of the Savior brings faith to life. Mid-Week Lenten Service Wednesday, March 9th at 7pm Week Four, March 9th, is based on the word PRAISE and reminds us that even in the midst of sorrow, we are called to celebrate the love of God and the joy that can be found only in Christ crucified, who reigns in glory now. Mid-Week Lenten Service Wednesday, March 16th at 7pm Week Five, March 16th, is based on the word PAIN and reminds us that the pain of rejection and the pain of a father when a son leaves demonstrate the reckless love of God revealed in Jesus, who wipes every tear from our eyes. Palm Sunday Service, March 20th, at 9am On Palm Sunday, January 20th, there will be a special service based on the word PALMS. While we know the resurrection is on the horizon, we will welcome with palms in our hands the King of glory, now humbly riding a donkey. Maundy Thursday Service March 24th at 7pm On Maundy Thursday, March 24th, there will be a special service based on the word PRAYER. We watch as Jesus prays in anguish that this cup might pass from Him, aware that God’s plan for Him is glorious. Good Friday Service March 25th at 7pm On Good Friday, March 25th, there will be a special service based on the word PASSION, We witness the passion and death of Christ on the cross, knowing that by His death we have life everlasting. Easter Sunday Services at 8am & 10am And on Easter Sunday, March 27th, there will be a special service based on the word PARADISE. As Easter people, we rejoice in the end of the story: paradise is ours through the resurrection of Christ. Blessings Pastor David Hahn

LWML Corner

I begin my article by sharing a poem written by Lenore Settlemire, a LWML sister in Christ from Phoenix, Arizona. “BLESS I THE LORD” I tried the straight and narrow way, The Lord accounted it for good; I often slipped to my dismay But He ever understood. “Sufficient is my strength,” said He, And so I took Him at His word; His nail-pierced hand reached out to me, His answered promise then I heard, The strength He gave was marvelous, My lighted heart began to sing, My path no longer arduous, Now to Thy rugged cross I cling. Our next meeting will be Saturday, February 13, at 9:30 a.m. in the East Room. We will continue our study of “Living a Chocolate Life” and we will focus on the words SAVORING GOD’S GRACE! Bev Feil and Janet Linkert will be our hostesses. REMEMBER to bring your Bible and your Mite offering. All women are invited and are encouraged to bring a friend. Speaking of MITES! If you can’t make our meetings and would like to contribute MITES for MISSIONS please put your donation in the wooden box marked MITES which you will find on the LWML table in the narthex. There is also another wooden box on that table for donations to the Open Door(formerly the Eagan Resource Center) and these donations are used to buy food for those in need that the Open Door serves. The LWML national organization publishes a magazine 4 times a year. The Lutheran Woman’s Quarterly features Bible Studies, wonderful articles written by women, and information on the organization itself. The Winter magazine is entitled “Then Sings My Soul” and features women who are using their God-given talents to manifest His joy and to extend His kingdom-they are artistic expressions of faith. Please pick up a copy on the LWML table, and hen you are done share it with someone. Once again we begin our Lenten journey and not only during this journey but always may we cling to the old rugged cross.

Sunday School

By Joyce Swedean

What’s happening in Sunday School! During February the Sunday morning and Anyuak afternoon classes continue their study of the New Testament. Our lessons are taken from Matthew and Luke and are titled: “The Visit of the Magi”; “The Boy Jesus in the Temple”; “John Prepares the Way”; and “The Baptism of Jesus”. It is a joy to hear the children sing of the love of Jesus and to hear them participate in each lesson. The Sunday School Teacher’s Meeting will be at 11:15 a.m. on Sunday, February 7 th in the lower level of church. Coming up: On Palm Sunday, March 20th the children will meet at 8:30 am for Bible Story and get ready to participate in the processional of palms. They will also sing some special songs during the service. After the service we will enjoy the Pancake Breakfast served by the Board of Education and Board of Youth. We hope you will join us for this special day in the church year. There will not be Sunday School on Easter Sunday. Do you know a child that should be attending Sunday School? Invite them! Encourage them! Bring them! We want children to “Grow in Christ”.

L.I.F.E Groups L.I.F.E. Groups are focused within a purpose statement: To relationally connect people to one another so that group members become more fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ by extending hope, transforming lives, and empowering people. They meet once a week for Bible Study, fellowship, prayer, and service to church and community. Always looking to grow by inviting others to fill our “Open Chair” which is an ongoing prayer. We look for opportunities to serve wherever needed, at funerals, be greeters, do pew maintenance, work at Feed my starving children, collecting food for the charities, as well as helping with fundraisers and many other God given opportunities. In our Bible Studies each group selects what they will focus on. It might be a Book of the Old or New Testament, a topic or other Christian books. Living In Faith Everyday is all about trusting God and His Word. Here are some scriptures about faith: When you say:

God’s answer: “It’s impossible”

All things are possible (Luke18:27)

“I’m not able”

I AM able (II Cor. 9:8)

“I’m too tired”

I will give you rest (Matt:. 11: 28-30

“Nobody really loves me”

I love you (John 3:16 & 3:35)

“I can’t go on”

My Grace is sufficient (II Cor. 12:9 & Ps. 91:15)

“I can’t figure things out “

I will direct your steps (Proverbs 3: 5-6)

“I can’t forgive myself”

I forgive you (1 John 1:9 & Romans 8:1)

“I can’t do it”

You can do all things (Phil. 4:13)

“It’s not worth it”

It will be worth it (Rom. 8:28)

“I can’t manage”

I will supply all your needs (Phil. 4:19)

“I’m afraid”

I will not give you a spirit of fear (II Tim. 1:7)

“I’m always worried and frustrated”

Cast all your cares on me (I Peter 5:7)

“I’m not smart enough”

I give you wisdom (I Cor. 1:30)

“I feel all alone”

I will never leave you or forsake you (Hebrews 13:5) TO GOD BE ALL GLORY Sharonlee

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.

1 Corinthians 13:4–8
