Youth Devotions—"My Devotions" Available for all youth 6th - 12th grades - free - is a youth devotional titled "My Devotions.” It is a daily devotional written for youth. I would like to share a sample of one of these devotions designated for August 25th, 2016. It is called "Back To School."
"Therefore lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint but rather be healed. Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God; that no “root of bitterness” springs up and causes trouble, and by it many become defiled." (Hebrews 12:12-15 ESV) What new things do you purchase for your new for your new school year? Do you choose new pencils, new shoes, or new folders? It is always a good feeling to get something new for your new grade, new desk, or new locker. It helps you make a fresh start. You may even meet some new people. As you find out whom you will sit by, who is in your class, or who has a locker next to yours, you can look for chances to make new friends. But watch out! Satan is working so you can make new enemies! That's right! He loves all kinds of evil. He is looking to add trouble to your new school year. Today's verses in Hebrews tell us to "lift your drooping hands and strengthen you weak knees," to strive for peace with everyone and to see that no "root of bitterness" causes trouble. These verses tell us to look out for Satan's tricks. But Satan is smart. He is clever. He wants nothing but bad things for all of us. As hundreds of kids go back to school, he loves to see what kinds of trouble he can cause. How can we strengthen ourselves against that? The truth is, we can't. Our strength for such battles come from God. As we read and hear His Word, He strengthens our faith. Because we are baptized, the Holy Spirit works in us as we struggle in tis sinful world. Each day, we wake to a new day rich in mercy from our everlasting God. As you go back to school and face new challenges, remember that God's mercy and love go with you. When you fail and sin, He will forgive you and strengthen you to share His mercy and love with others. Journal: Is there someone at school you have a difficult time getting along with? Pray for that person this week. Pray: Heavenly Father, I am weak, but You are strong. Thank You for forgiving me and for making all things new. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen!
You may pick one of these devotionals up in the Youth Room or on the desk in the narthex. What a wonderful way to strengthen a youths walk of faith in Jesus Christ. Pastor Hahn
PRESCHOOL NEWS The summer has quickly been flying by and I find myself already getting ready for another wonderful school year. I am very excited about this year for many reasons. First, I can now announce that Julia Bonewell will be the preschool teacher for both classes. She recently obtained her Child Development Associate and will be using her knowledge to further enhance the classroom. Second, Maria Cecka will continue as music teacher for both classes. Third, our enrollment is going very well. The 3-day class is full with a waiting list. 15 children will be staying all day those days. The 2-day class has 12 children (leaving only 8 openings right now). 5 children will be staying for the new extended day portion of the class. I want to give a huge THANK YOU to those who participated in the envelope fundraiser for the preschool. We were able to raise over $3,300! This allows me to update some outdated furniture in the classroom and provide in-house field trips for the children. There are still some envelopes leftover. If interested in donating, please see me. Thanks to the Thrivent funds the preschool was able to order new rest mats for the children. Our old ones were falling apart and I only had 12. The new mats are stackable and have activity centers that can clip on the stacked mats. They will be a wonderful addition to the classroom. Looking for ways to support the preschool other than money donations? Please continue to bring in milk tops from Kwik Trip. We cannot collect milk tops from other companies, though. There is a donation sheet on the board outside of the classroom. If you see a Post-It note with something you’d be willing to donate, please grab the note and bring in the donation by the requested due date. Campbell Soup Labels are changing their program a bit. I am still looking into those changes and will provide an update in next month’s newsletter. If you have any questions about the preschool, please see me, send me an email, or call me. I’d love to answer any questions you may have. Blessings, Michele Lukanen Preschool Director
LWML Corner By Joyce Swedean Why do you and others take risks? Can you “jump” into life, trusting God with all the risks and uncertainties in your life? “GO AHEAD, JUMP” is the theme for the Bible Study for our LWML Get Together on Saturday, September 10th at 9:30 am. We will also hear from Karra Hartog and Janet Linkert who were our delegates to the 26th Biennial Convention held this past June in Mankato under the theme of “The Living Word”. REMEMBER your Bible and Mites! I pray that you will consider joining us for our monthly get together as we study His Word, enjoy fellowship, and learn what is happening in the LWML. If you have questions about the LWML don’t hesitate to ask. If you have some ideas for programs let me know. MARK YOUR CALENDAR! Our Annual Holiday Boutique is Saturday, November 5th. In closing, read aloud these words from 1 Thessalonians 5:23 (NIV): “May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Sunday Morning Bible Study The "Lead Like Jesus" study will continue every Sunday morning. Through this study, we will hopefully experience Jesus in a new and different way, as we grow to trust and follow Him and as we seek to come together and lead others to the Cross. To provide some flexibility to your summer schedule the 1st and 2nd Sundays of each month will be the same lesson, as well as the 3rd and 4th Sundays. It is my prayer and desire that "Lead Like Jesus" will be the beginning of a new and exciting chapter in our journey to becoming effective servant leaders as we gather together to be fed and strengthened through God's Word and teachings.
Community Blood Drive On Thursday, September 8th, Christ Lutheran Church will be sponsoring a Red Cross blood drive from 12:00-5:00 pm. To schedule appointments please call 1-800-REDCROSS (800-7332767) or register online at www.redcrossblood.org and enter sponsor code: Christ Luth Church. There is also a sign-up sheet in the narthex.
Rally Day Please join us on Sunday, September 11, at 11:15 for a picnic lunch and games to kick off the Sunday School and Bible Class year. Hot dogs and chips will be provided. If possible, please bring a dessert to share. This fun event is for all of the congregation. See you there!
Eagan Pointe Worship & Bible Study Every Tuesday morning at Eagan Pointe Senior Living Pastor Hahn leads a Bible Study for anyone who would like to join in. It is about half members of Christ Lutheran and half residents of Eagan Pointe. We have done topical studies as well as going through books of the Bible. It is a great group of people who would love for more to join in. If you are free at 9am on Tuesday mornings we meet at Eagan Pointe in, what has been labeled by the residents as, "The Pub". Hope to see you there! And lest I forget there is free coffee! On the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month a Worship Service, led by Pastor Hahn, is held at the Eagan Pointe Senior Living. It begins at 10am on the 2nd floor in the activity room. Anyone is welcome to worship with us.
Confirmation Instruction Orientation for Grades 6-8 Attention all 6th - 8th Graders! Confirmation Instruction is approaching it's starting point. On Wednesday, September 14th at 6:30pm there will be a meeting, with parents and students, to walk you through the plans for the year. It will probably be a smaller group than last year so it may be structured a little different. This year we will be focusing upon the 10 Commandments, Apostles’ Creed, Holy Baptism, and Holy Communion. Please post this date to your calendar. Following the meeting the youth are encouraged to join in the Youth (6th-12th grade) Group Bonfire. More information about the Bonfire is included in this Newsletter.
YOUTH BONFIRE! All youth, 6th grade and older, are invited to a Bonfire on Wednesday, September 14th at 7:00 (after confirmation). Meet at CLC, and the bonfire will be outside in our fire pit. Join us for s'mores, stories, and Bible study!
LIFE Groups of Christ Lutheran Church What is a LIFE Group? That is a great question that can easily be answered: L = Living I = In F = Faith E = Everyday. So the LIFE Groups at Christ Lutheran Church are small groups of about 10 who seek to "Live In Faith Everyday" and meet together to encourage each other in their faith journey. LIFE groups can be groups of any age. Some of the objectives of the LIFE groups are: 1) develop and grow bonds between church members, get to know each other; 2) strengthen our faith in the Triune God; 3) strengthen our ministry to one another; 4) provide an environment that new members may feel comfortable and welcome; 5) grow and expand the Church. LIFE groups meet weekly either in each other's homes or at church. A sample meeting would open with prayer, have some time in fellowship (usually with some food or snack), participate in a devotion and discussion, a Bible study, and close with prayer. The time varies depending on the makeup of each group. To find out more about this wonderful faith growing opportunity please contact Sharonlee, Pastor Hahn, or anyone already participating in a LIFE Group. The Human Care Board would like to thank everyone who donated to the July food drive. Food and money were taken to The Open Door Pantry in Eagan, and it was greatly appreciated! God bless you all!

YOUR HELP IS NEEDED!
So then, as we have opportunity,
let us do good to everyone, especially to those who are of the household of faith. Galatians 6:10
Sunday School Teachers Needed: The Sunday School program is in need of 3 more teachers (elementary, middle school, and high school). If you are interested in teaching classes, please see Michele Lukanen or sign up on the board in the fellowship hall hallway.
Constitution and By-Laws Committee: The Church Council is seeking volunteers to be part of a committee to examine and propose changes to the Constitution and By-Laws. This informal group will report to the Church Council recommendations for changes to both the Constitution and the By-Laws. After Church Council consideration, the changes recommended may proceed through the approval process as outlined in the Constitution and By-Laws. If you would like to participate on the committee or have suggestions, please contact Kelly Callahan or let Pastor Hahn know. Volunteers Needed: The Anyuak Sunday School, which meets from 2:30-3:30, is in need of teachers. If you are interested in helping with this outreach program, please see Michele Lukanen (michele.clc@live.com) The Trustees: are looking for volunteers to help mow the church grounds. With enough helpers, each person may only have to mow about 4 times during the season. Most of the mowing is done with a large lawn tractor. Contact Jeff Aldinger for more info or to sign up to help. It’s Never to Early to Think about Christmas. The committee that has been organizing the Christmas Tea in December has decided to open up this wonderful opportunity to other members. If you would like to take hold of this opportunity and make it your own, please feel free to step forward. If you would like any guidance or have any questions, contact Sharonlee Strohkirch or Kelly Callahan. It's been a wonderful experience. Thanks to all who have participated in and attended the event.
It Isn't The Church - It's You If you want to have the kind of church Like the kind of church you like, You needn't slip your clothes in a grip And start on a long, long hike, You'll only find what you left behind, For there's nothing really new. It's a knock at yourself when you knock you church; It isn't the church - it's you. When everything seems to be going wrong, And trouble seems everywhere brewing; When pray meeting, young people's meeting, and all, Seem simmering slowly - stewing, Just take a look at yourself and say, "What's the use in being blue?" Are you doing your "bit" to make things "hit"? it isn't the church - it's you. It's really strange sometimes, don't you know, That things go as well as they do, When we think of the little - the very small mite We add to the work of the few. We sit, and stand around, and complain of what's done, And do very little but fuss. Are we bearing our share of the burdens to bear? It isn't the church - it's us.
So, if you want to have the kind of church Like the kind of church you like, Put off your guile, and put on your best smile, And hike, my brother, just hike, To the work in hand that has to be done The work of saving few. It isn't the church that is wrong, my boy; It isn't the church - it's you. (Author Unknown)
