Iron Butt Association’s “Saddle Sore 1000” Submitted by Patrick “Matrix” Lee

On August 21st over 50 bikers accomplished the Iron Butt Association’s Saddle Sore 1000 by participating in the Inaugural Southeast Iron Butt Tour. What made this different from most IBA rides was that this was a coordinated effort of 4 Indian Motorcycle Riders Group chapters spread throughout the southeast and in a year where many motorcycle events and rallies have been cancelled, this event survived. Combat Vets Association and Fire & Iron Motorcycle Club also participated in the ride. Everything kicked off with groups starting at 4:00 AM in 3 separate locations: Marietta GA, Knoxville TN, and Charleston SC. All groups followed the same route plan with the Charleston beginning at American Biker/Indian of Charleston to Savannah, Macon, Marietta, Chattanooga, Knoxville, Greer, and finally back to Charleston.

There were 34 Indian’s, 15 Harley’s, 3, Honda’s, 2 BMW’s, 2 Victory’s, a Kawasaki, a Suzuki, and a Triumph. The youngest rider was only 16 years old and had to stop and rebuild a carburetor on the side of the highway, but he persevered and finished the ride in time. Some of the riders drove all the way from Illinois, Pennsylvania, and Florida just to participate. The first group of riders completed the Iron Butt challenge at just over 18 hours pulling into the starting point at 12:15 AM on August 22nd. The event proceeds went to Operation Homefront, an organization made to benefit veteran families when and where they need it most. Check out www.southeastironbutt.com to see pictures and videos from the ride and after-parties. Dr. Dilligaf Got something to ask dr. dilligaf??

send it to carolinachrome@yahoo.com

Dr. Dilligaf, I have been reading your monthly column for some time now, (not sure why) and it seems as if all the questions submitted are from female readers. Do you have any insight on that? Just Curious Just Curious, Let me guess, you too are a female. The answer to your question is two-fold. Aside from cats’ females are the most curious of God’s creations. They have a natural inbred propensity for digging up facts. Whether they store and catalog them for future reference in arguments or it just satisfies a need I am uncertain. I do know that in my personal life questions are hurled at me like fast balls at home plate. I have barely enough time to answer one before another comes my way. Not to toot my own horn but I do occasionally knock on out of the park. For proof go back and read my response to the first question in last month’s issue. I stated that my answer would be two-fold. I have shared my thought on the possibility of why I get letters from women but did not explain the why I do not receive many letters from men. That answer is short and sweet. Men are know it all’s. I do not mean that in a negative way. People do not really like a know it all until they need one. Matter of fact when I applied for this job I responded because I fulfilled the advertised requirement. Wanted-One Smart Assed Know It All. The rest is history. Dr. Dilligaf

ing them like fast balls. How tall are you? How much to do weigh? What type of riding do you plan to do? What is your financial status? Do you have a motorcycle license? What part of the world do you live in? Do you have any physical infirmities? Have you always been this naïve? Did you write this letter just for attention? What is your age? And finally, what is your name and number? I have lots of friends looking for a girl like you. Seriously, I recommend that first you take a rider’s instruction course and get your motorcycle license. With a license in hand you can then go to a HD dealership and test drive any of their machines. Put some thought into the questions that I asked because believe it or not some of them are important in deciding what motorcycle is appropriate for what you envision for yourself. Good luck and I hope to see you in the wind. Dr. Dilligaf

Dr. Dilligaf, I am about to purchase my first motorcycle. Because of the intrigue and reputation of Harley Davidson Motorcycles I am leaning towards the purchase of one of their machines. Which one do you suggest for me to start on? Newbie Rider Newbie Rider, Hey Girl. (see first letter) You have put me in touch with my feminine side this morning. That is a small side that I am seldom in touch with although I admit to touching my male side regularly. I have questions and I am throw-
