President’s Message

Dear Members

Chung Wah Association is well established and has been in operation for the past 109 years. Subcommittees and groups have been gaining momentum and operating effectively under their respective leaders. These include the Chung Wah Community and Aged Care, Chung Wah Chinese School, Chung Wah Women, Cultural Development and Activities. The Cultural Development and Activities encompasses Chung Wah Lion and Dragon Dance, Chung Wah Dragon Boat, Chung Wah Cultural Dance, Chung Wah Orchestra, Chung Wah Cantonese Opera, Chung Wah Beijing Opera, Chung Wah Line Dancing, Chung Wah New Vogue and Chung Wah Choir.

Community activities and members joining the Association’s sub-committees and groups have increased progressively and provided positive impacts on the social lives of many members. Chung Wah Women under Jiping Zou, Subcommittee Chairperson, has remained active with weekly dance program and regular wellbeing courses supporting the women’s cause, and recently incorporating an International Women’s Day celebration at the Chung Wah Hall. Community services have always been the Association’s focus. Highlights of the past year included major project deliveries of the Perth Chinese New Year Fair, Cultures of China Festival of Spring Chinese New Year show, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, 20th Anniversary of the Chung Wah Cultural Centre and progress work with respect to the development of the Autumn Centre Inc. The development of the Autumn Centre Inc was stalled at one stage 30 years ago. Since the current Executive Committee team came into office in the past three years, progress in this area recommenced with the involvement of relevant state and local government agencies to discuss the construction of the of the Autumn Centre Inc. This new initiative and effort under the leadership of Doreen Chin, Chairperson of the Autumn Centre Inc Board has reached a stage whereby a development concept plan has been submitted to the City of Stirling. Chung Wah Association strives to maximise creativity in social inclusion and community resilience to benefit its members. The Association ensures the ongoing delivery of a range of important community services and social networks, and it will continue to emerge as the leader and promoter of innovative Chinese cultural activities and multicultural sports and activities within mainstream Australian society. As Chung Wah President, I recognise the importance and responsibilities of the role to lead the Association. The opportunity to serve our members and contribute towards the Association’s development relies not only on our own effort, but also goodwill and support from many others. I express my sincere gratification to Sheila Rejek, Hon Secretary and Jen Nie Chong, Hon Treasurer together with the work and support of the entire Executive Committee in many positive outcomes that has exceeded performance expectations. Chung Wah Community and Aged Care led by the CEO, Theresa Kwok, continues to face new challenges in the wake of tighter government funding measures which forced aged care providers to run the sector more creatively and efficiently. In terms of developing the Association, Chung Wah Chinese School has been supported enormously and morally to empower Chung Wah Chinese School Council under the leadership of Sheila Rejek to develop uniform policies and direction insofar as curriculum additions and improvements within existing campuses as well as to establish new campuses. I thank the Council of Elders and its members led by Dr Bob Tan who continues to provide valuable strong support and ongoing guidance. The Executive Committee team will continue to operate to abide by the Constitution, excel at the Association’s operations, and improve the Association’s influence and reputation. Through our dedication, we will ensure that the Association will continue to play an important role as a genuine “home for the Chinese community”. Chung Wah Cultural Development and Activities led by Chairperson, Jen Nie Chong continue to progress well and this sub-committee has expanded to include additional sub-culture groups and provided a platform for a variety of new cultural activities and social inclusion. 会长的话 亲爱的会员们 中 华会馆至今已有一百零九年的历史，并在文化交流、社区服务及中文教育等各个领域都奠定了良好的运作 基础。会馆各分支部门及小组逐渐增长扩大，在部门领导的的精心组织下，进行有效的沟通与配合，使各部 门的工作顺利展开。目前，会馆的各分支部门及小组包括：中华社区与长者服务部、中华中文学校、中华妇女部、中 华龙狮团、中华龙舟队及隶属中华文化与活动发展部的中华舞蹈团、中华民乐团、中华粤剧社、中华京剧社、中华 排排舞、中华新时尚舞蹈及中华合唱团。 服务社区一直是会馆的重要会务活动 之一。越来越多的会员们参与到我会 各部门及小组所组织的各项丰富的 社区活动，这些有益身心的活动增 加了会员间的交流与联系，对于许多 会员的社交生活产生了积极影响。 对我会发展的重要性，我们的发展除了自身努力外，同 时也离不开各界的关爱和支持！ 在此，由衷感谢中华会馆秘书长蘇翠妹女士、中华 会馆财长张娟妮女士与全体理事会成员的工作及努力， 让我们的会务工作卓有成效。 过去一年里，会馆先后承办、协办了 各项活动，其中的亮点包括一年一度的珀斯中华新年文 化节，“文化中国.四海同春”大型慰侨演出、中华杯龙舟 节、中秋联欢晚会、中华文化中心二十周年庆典以及中华 秋园的发展建设。 中华秋园的发展建设，三十年前曾一度停滞。自理 事会接任以来，在过去三年里，我们一直与市政府、州 政府的相关部门进行多次的会议，重新开始讨论关于秋 园的建设。中华秋园在秋园主席陈清灵女士（Doreen Chin）的倡议和努力下，现已准备正式向Stirling市政府 提交秋园的发展计划。 中华社区与长者服务中心在首席执行官郭郑素雯的 带领下，继续面临新的挑战，由于澳洲政府对政府资金 的审批发放采取了更加严格的措施，使得老年护理服务 机构不断自我提高，提供有效的服务以应对更激烈的行 业竞争和挑战。 我还要感谢由陈振发太平绅士领导下的元老会成 员们一如既往地对我们的工作提供了宝贵的支持和指 导。 中华会馆理事会一定不会辜负全体会员的期望，严 格遵守章程，努力办好各项会务，通过增强会馆的凝聚 力和公信力，继续让会馆成为真正的“华人之家”。 丁少平 会长 中华中文学校的发展得到了中文学校管委会的大力 支持，在中文学校管委会主任蘇翠妹女士的领导下，中 文学校制定了统一的政策和发展方向，进一步走向规范 化，包括在现有三所校区内增加课程以及开设新校区。 中华文化 与活 动发 展部在张 娟妮 女 士（JenNie Chong）的带领下，其隶属下的活动小组不断发展壮 大，为中华会员提供多样的文化交流与活动平台。 中华妇女部在主任邹纪平女士的带领下，一直积极 的组织每周的舞蹈课程以及定期的养生课程，得到了广 大妇女会员的积极响应。 近期妇女部还在中华会馆礼堂组织了国际妇女节庆 祝活动。 中华会馆将继续秉承创会宗旨，在维护会员权益、 增强社会包容力及等各个方面团结和服务广大会员，为 会员们提供更好的交流平台、社区活动及社区服务,继续 帮助会员融入主流社会与繁荣澳州多元文化社区贡献 一份力量。 作为会长，我深切感受到责任的重大以及领导角色
