The Perth Chinese New Year Fair was held on 18 February 2018. Fireworks, red lanterns, multicultural concerts, colourful parades and food stalls lined the celebrations for 80,000 spectators to absorb the beating of the drums and crashing of the cymbals while mighty Chung Wah lions danced, curved and flowed elegantly through James Street in Northbridge. This public event was funded by the City of Perth, Lotterywest, Office of Multicultural Interests and sponsored by Mirvac, Murdoch University, Optus and Westindo Group. The large scale festivity was organised by Chung Wah and is one of the largest multicultural events in the City of Perth. It is participated by Chung Wah subcommittees and groups including other local Chinese associations and multicultural communities. The “Cultures of China, Festival of Spring Chinese New Year” was held on 2 March 2018. Performers provided a riveting fusion of sound and visual effects so that the local community could share the beauty of the Chinese culture. Award-winning dancers, renowned Shaolin martial artists and acrobatic performers were brought to the City of Perth at the Perth Concert Hall. This breathtaking event was jointly organised by Chung Wah, Huaxing Arts Group and Fujian Association. Chinese New Year dinner and dance took place in an extended celebration on the 15 th day of the spring festival. Guests indulged in a ten-course meal and show at the Chung Wah Cultural Centre in Balcatta on 3 March 2018. On 24 June 2018 the Chung Wah Dragon Boat “Wah Long 1” triumphed valiantly on Champion Lakes when it took out the Chung Wah dragon boat cup at the Dragon Boat Festival organised by Chung Wah in partnership with Dragon Boating WA. Guangdong Provincial Government Overseas Chinese Affairs Office visited the Chung Wah hall on 28 June 2018. The delegation was briefed on the history of Chung Wah and the first Chinese migrants in Western Australia. functionality during social functions, cultural events, general meetings, conferences, exhibitions and combined local Chinese schools speech recital competition events. This overdue house curtains upgrade was made possible with the support of the OMI Local Projects Grant ($3,000), donation from Line Dancing ($14,000), contribution from Chung Wah Community and Aged Care ($5,000) in time for the centre’s 20 th Anniversary coordinated by Chung Wah. Chung Wah Cultural Centre in Balcatta was built 20 years ago by Chung Wah through the determination of courageous leaders, generous donors, supporters, members and volunteers. Its 20 th Anniversary was celebrated on 18 August 2018. Chung Wah Executive Committee, Chung Wah Council of Elders, Chung Wah Community and Aged Care, Chung Wah Chinese School, Western Australian Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Westindo Group, World Oriental Charm and various Chinese associations in Western Australia supported this celebratory fundraising project whereby 37 tables were sold out. The centre is in need of repairs to the roof and ceiling due to a major water leak. Proceeds from this celebration which exceeded $20,000 will be channelled towards the ceiling refurbishment project initiated by Chung Wah. On 15 September 2018, the Mid-Autumn Festival was delivered from the Chung Wah Chinese School Council level. School Management Committee members, Principals, teachers, students, performers and volunteers played a pivotal role in the delivery of this cultural bazaar concert festival. Invited guests, spectators, parents and their external families packed the Chung Wah Cultural Centre for an evening of talent shows, lanterns, mooncakes and festivities. Earlier this year, the makeshift backdrop at the Chung Wah Cultural Centre in Balcatta was replaced with a new white cyclorama to enhance projection Affordable and accessible community services remain as a strong focus for Chung Wah.
Chung Wah Chinese School operates steadily with campuses situated across Leeming, Morley and Rossmoyne to provide community Chinese language education and culture. In addition, cultural extracurriculum activities are a popular source of Chinese language supplementary learning including junior football programs. Chung Wah Community and Aged Care provides professional support and care services for cultural and linguistically diverse migrants and the wider community through its day respite centre, day care centre, English language and other wellness classes. It continues to deliver challenging community care services and innovative programs to seniors and ethnic groups from non-English speaking background through professional bilingual support workers and dedicated volunteers. In 2018, Chung Wah Autumn Centre Incorporated submitted its Development Plan and proposed scope of work in Balcatta for approval from the City of Stirling. Chung Wah Council of Elders remains active in providing supervisory and advisory roles to the Chung Wah Executive Committee. This year, two new groups namely Chung Wah Beijing Opera and Chung Wah Choir were introduced and added to enrich community activities. The number of members joining these activity groups is growing steadily. Other significant community highlights included the Chung Wah Women’s celebration of the International Women’s Day, a performance by Franco-Chinese master of puppetry arts, seminars on Feng Shui, workshops on the book of I-Ching, legal consultation and information sessions conducted by AH2,
basic first aid courses, tai chi classes and Chinese musical orchestra, cultural dance, line dancing, new vogue, lion dance training towards overseas competition and dragon boating. These community sports and recreation benefits endeavour to bring people together. It provides opportunities for social interaction, empowers and motivates members in community development and social inclusion. Chung Wah has delivered, supported and represented well over 50 community events of various levels and sizes during this period. These services provided an excellent platform for members to network and increase the connectivity and vitality of Chung Wah’s presence among local communities. Strong relationships and community ownerships are important when community projects are involved. It ensures autonomy over all aspects of the projects, builds the commitment and enthusiasm of all people involved to achieve successful outcomes. Current financial memberships stand at 1,200 that enjoy the privileges of Chung Wah’s support networks, facility and amenity uses, problem solving information sessions, safety and wellness programs, complimentary Chung Wah Magazine subscriptions and discounted product offerings and services. Chung Wah maintains bilateral communication and exchange with the state and local government agencies and continues its role as a conduit between the government and Chinese communities in Western Australia.

组办。各个学校管理委员会成员、校长、教师、学生、演 员和志愿者在这个包含文化市集的晚会的组办过程中都 扮演了非常关键的角色。当晚,受邀嘉宾、观众、家长及 他们的亲友挤满了中华文化中心,一面采购月饼和美食 一面观赏孩子们提灯和精彩的文化演出。 经济实惠和便利的社区服务仍然是中华会馆的重点。 中华中文学校在黎明,摩利及乐思的校园内稳步运 作,提供社区中文教育和文化。此外,文化课外活动也广 受欢迎,是提高学习中文兴趣的重要部分,这包括初级 足球课程。 中华社区与长者服务中心通过其日间暂息中心、日 托中心、英语学习班和其他健康课程,为文化和语言多 元化的移民及更广泛的社区提供专业的支持和护理服 务。中心将继续通过专业并具备双语能力的雇员和敬业 的志愿者为非英语背景的老年人和族裔群体提供具有 挑战性的社区护理服务和创新计划。 2018年,中华秋园给Stirling市政府提交了其发展计 划和提议在Balcatta进行的工作范围。
