ABOUT US Founded in 2001, CIMSA has always put forward its activities that have long been viewed as a way to enable young people with a desire to make a difference in the community. We remain as committed as ever to empowering medical students and improving nation's health, and will continue working towards making it a reality. CIMSA or Center for Indonesian Medical Students' Activities is a medical student organization that is nationalist, independent, inclusive, non-political, and nonpartisan. CIMSA prepares medical students to increase their capacity in medical fields, empowers them to play roles in the field, and enables them to gain experiences in contributing towards the improvement of the nation’s health. Starting with six locals on May 6th 2001, CIMSA has grown to have 27 locals and we are looking forward to expanding and empowering more medical students nationwide. Since 2002, CIMSA has been affiliated with the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA) which is recognized by World Health Organization as the international forum for medical students. This brings CIMSA to think globally and act locally. Through four core programs of CIMSA which are capacity building, activities, advocacy, and research, CIMSA works in the focus areas related to public health, sexual & reproductive health and rights including HIV & AIDS, human rights and peace, professional & research student exchange, and medical education. In essence, with years of experience in these works, we believe we could create a healthier, more secure, and more prosperous Indonesia.

THE MILESTONES

WE KEEP ON STRIVING:

THE MILESTONES CIMSA is the result of the committed hearts to create and act towards our nation’s health, following the tagline:

EMPOWERING MEDICAL STUDENTS, IMPROVING NATION’S HEALTH Moved by Indonesia’s Preamble of The Constitution of The State of the Republic of Indonesia of the year 1945 which states that Indonesia is an independent and sovereign country with the aim to advance public welfare, to educate the life of the nation, and to participate in the execution of world order which is by virtue of freedom, perpetual peace, and social justice, CIMSA was formed to help achieve these goals as we believe two fundamental matters involved are education and health. Thus, medical students are one inseparable part of the nation’s development. We all have the obligation to build our capacities and abilities, don’t we?

THE MILESTONES

Founded on May 6th 2001, CIMSA held its first General Assembly on May 11th - 13th, 2001. In 2002, CIMSA changed its membership status from individual membership to the establishment of a Local in each university, making it more effective to coordinate and conduct activities.

CIMSA grew from 6 locals in 2001, then to 12 locals by the end of 2005 period, 15 locals by the end of 2010 period, and 18 locals by the end of 2015. As of 2021, CIMSA has established in 27 locals, empowering more than 9.000 medical students of Indonesia, and we are still looking forward to all parts of Indonesia.

13

14

THE MILESTONES W E MAKE OU R V OI CES HEA RD Shortly after being built, CIMSA established itself as a sustainable activity-based organization up to an international level. CIMSA is officially affiliated with IFMSA with a Letter of Agreement in the year of 2002, stating that CIMSA-ISMKI was the official name of the NMO of Indonesia and that every standing committee was under the auspices of CIMSA, whilst ISMKI was responsible for representing Indonesian medical students’ aspirations in IFMSA. In 2019, CIMSA officially became the sole representation of Indonesia to IFMSA named as CIMSA Indonesia through the CIMSA-ISMKI Joint Statement.

Since 2002, CIMSA has always been nationally and internationally active as an organization . Each year, many of our members, numbered at more than 400, represent Indonesia in international conferences, seminars, workshops, competitions, meetings, working groups, exchanges, and many more.

During the 2006-2011 period, CIMSA released a triannual magazine called AORTA, its official website, its social media and mail list, its organization profile, and database of CIMSA alumni.

As we went past our first decade, CIMSA was already in a stable position to contribute to tackling health issues leading to CIMSA’s commitment to achieving the Millennium Development Goals in the year 2011.
