The festival will present the very best in world cinema for young people, jam packed with film education workshops, international film previews and our Young Filmmaker Competition. Highlights include Talent Lab masterclasses, fun-filled family events and the CineSeekers film juries. We are especially looking forward to the World Premiere of ‘A Christmas Star’, our very own feature production and Northern Ireland and Ireland’s first children’s Christmas film. Over 5,000
young people auditioned for the main cast roles which gave young people, from different cultural backgrounds, the chance to star in a film supported by many artists from the world of film and television including Liam Neeson, Pierce Brosnan, Robert James Collier, Bronagh Waugh, Richard Clements and Suranne Jones. Forty young trainee crew members were also mentored by industry professionals who skilled them in all the aspects of filmmaking. Previews of the film have included a special industry screening at Cannes Film Festival. The US premiere will take place in the iconic TCL Chinese Theatre in LA this December!
I would like to say a big thank you to the Cinemagic staff and volunteers who are so dedicated and hardworking. Thank you also to the Cinemagic Board for all their guidance and support. Peter (Levi Miller) is a mischievous 12-year-old boy with an irrepressible rebellious streak, but in the bleak London orphanage where he has lived his whole life those qualities do not exactly fly. Then one incredible night, Peter is whisked away from the orphanage and spirited off to a fantastical world of pirates, warriors and fairies called Neverland. There, he finds amazing adventures and fights life-or-death battles while trying to uncover the secret of his mother, who left him at the orphanage so long ago, and his rightful place in this magical land. Teamed with the warrior Tiger Lily (Rooney Mara) and a new friend named James Hook (Garrett Hedlund), Peter must defeat the ruthless pirate Blackbeard (Hugh Jackman) to save Neverland and discover his true destiny — to become the hero who will forever be known as Peter Pan. His big chance to prove himself comes when he is asked to guard the mythical ‘fire grass’ the source of the dragons’ ability to breathe fire. Unfortunately for Coconut things are about to take a turn for the worse when the ‘fire grass’ is stolen! Set in the middle ages Trenk the Little Knight features beautifully drawn and coloured backdrops along with storylines whose castles, tournaments and adventures convey a realistic and authentic depiction of medieval life. All the conflicts Trenk has to overcome are solved with brains not brawn. The surprising twists and turns will make audiences cheer with joy! From the producers of Lilly the Witch and directed by Irish filmmaker Anthony Power.
Yellowbird lives in the ruins of an old house. He lacks the confidence to leave his home, no matter how much Bug, his ladybird friend, tries to convince him to go out into the world. Attempts to toughen him up have had little success, so Bug seizes an opportunity that leaves Yellowbird unexpectedly finding himself the new leader of a flock that is migrating to Africa. Still, lacking faith in his own abilities and with danger and imminent failure lurking around every corner, our feathered hero is forced to either find the strength required to work with the team or bow out and stay hidden away forever. Director Christian De Vita has created a fabulously vibrant and indulgent world full of wonder and adventure. If you’re a big fan of the Madagascar movies then you’ll love Yellowbird!
