“Woolscape (Wool+landscape) is a landscape that takes the symbolism and motif of wool strands and as a metaphor for modern life on objects. The image is located on a threshold between reality and symbolism. Made up of small strands of wool, the painted objects metaphorically depict the life of modern people living in society (pattern) by assembling small individual roles that seem meaningless in contemporary society. In addition, my work looks at the problems of modern society, the environment, and individual identity from a new perspective through the change of the physical properties of things, containing the meaning of warm healing.”

PATRICK EARLE b.1958, Oxford, UK Lives in St. Peter Port, Guernsey

Patrick Earle originally graduated from Cambridge University in Economics. Through two decades working in business and as an entrepreneur, Patrick participated in art classes at Heatherleys School of Art, West Dean College and Wimbledon School of Art. Eventually, Patrick went full-time to Heatherleys, in order to earn a Diploma in portraiture. This was the driving inspiration to work abstractly in colour, focusing on the experience of looking, rather than its particular content. Portraiture students were encouraged not to look too closely at any particular colour because of the risk of painting it too intensely, one might say honestly.
“My work aims to explore what the colour, intensity and structure of the visual experience might be at full vibrancy. Our eyes and brains search out specifics rather than experience the whole at full strength. Most of what we think we see is much diminished. Colour is my life, the colour fields around us are exciting, profound and radiant. My meditation practice conforms with this view of the world. The illusion of solidity masks our appreciation of the energy and light that we are made of, as with the universe in which we live.”
Patrick learned that we only see colours clearly when we really focus on them and what they might be. Self-study of this opens up a whole visual experience of intense colours. Moving to live in nature and beside the sea has facilitated the direct experience of colour and energy in nature. Patrick moved from painting in oil on canvas to the more environmentally friendly painting in digital, still using a similar layering process and finishing paintings in acrylic paint on canvas or in handknotted tapestries. CARLOS ABRAHAM b.1965, Lebanon Lives in Puebla, Mexico
Mexican photographer, Carlos Abraham was published in APERO art catalog, April 2021 and Spotlight Magazine by CFA Press, Issues #24 and #26. He has exhibited at the University Museum of Chopo, Mexico City in 2005 and several galleries and museums in his city and around Mexico as well as in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Carlos’ photographs are in the permanent collection of the National Photo Library of the INAH of the City of Pachuca, Mexico. He has attended Photography workshops at the Houston Center of Photography, Texas, USA as well as at The International Center of Photography, New York, USA.

TERRY BEARD b.1954, Toronto, Canada Lives in Ramsey Heights, UK
“My work is informed and inspired by elements within the natural and built environment, particularly the landscape which surrounds my studio in the Fens, an area of flat farmland punctuated by woodland and connected by ditches and drains. The preserved fenland offers endless possibilities for visual interpretation. My work explores ways of conveying a sense of depth and form using abstract marks and gestures such as blocks of colour and lines, and intuitive decisions are made during the making process. Although the environment is the root of all my work, the interpretation is personal to each observer.”
Avenue Mixed media 120 x 90 cm Terry lived abroad during her childhood, in Canada, Ireland and Uganda, and these experiences have had a subliminal impact on her work and use of colour. Terry studied textile design and worked for many years as a freelance textile designer and illustrator. She now works from a new studio in the heart of the Cambridgeshire Fens. She has concentrated on the development of her ideas for the last thirty years or so, and exhibited her work widely.

THORSTEN BOEHM
In his own words, Thorsten Boehm was “born in the zodiac sign of Pisces and since the beginning, lives in the dimension of dreams, intuition and anti-reality.” Since early childhood, Boehm has enjoyed drawing and painting and has traveled in silent fantasy worlds and fictional places of longing. Expressing those visually on paper provides profound happiness. After successfully completing his studies in Communication Design ad the Bildkunst Academic, Hamburg, in 2000, he currently works as a visual artist and illustrator for renowned clients, specialist magazines, and agencies. Boehm favors classical painting and a diversity of mixed media techniques, with frequent use of the airbrush.

Thorsten Boehm’s body of work deals with people and their multiple facets of existence; the mystery of being human. He is inspired by myths, fairy tales, and pseudo-religious ideologies from different cultures and eras. The strongest driving force for his artwork is the urge for a utopian world, full of harmony, beauty and innocence set against the existing reality of world full of violence, alienation and abuse.
Boehm’s works have been shown in numerous, wellregarded art exhibitions and international events in recent years.

Wiebrand Bouwkamp graduated from the Graphic School of Art and Design in Amsterdam. He did a Bachelor study as Teacher of visual Arts and Design at Hogeschool Windesheim and ArtEZ, University of the Arts, both situated in Zwolle, the Netherlands.

Bouwkamp has worked as a graphic designer, visualizer, storyboard artist, art director, illustrator, concept developer, teacher in graphic design and teacher in fine art.
“Wonderment is the spark of inspiration. In my paintings, I try to find a balance between depicting the actual scenery combined with the spiritual state I experience at that moment. A singing bird or smell from a flower for instance, can bring back memories of my early childhood. The images I compose are the result of lingering in nature every day, making sketches, pictures and drawings all the time. The final paintings are reflections of nature combined with my personal feelings and emotions.”
His most recent solo exhibition “Wild Waters” was in 2020 in Sneek, Holland and he participated at the Swiss Art Expo in Zurich, Switzerland, 2021. Bouwkamp is a member of the Dutch Association of Artists (NABK) and was published in the 2022 Yearbook, Jaarboek Kunstenaars 22. His work was most recently published in Kunst Vitamine Magazine, winter 2021/2022.

JEFFREY M BRACKETT b.1962, Los Angeles, USA Lives in Muncie, Indiana, USA
“Through the use of simple, repetitive ink lines, I explore the balance between calming and disorienting patterns. At times, my ink lines meander freely, creating a sense of calm. Other times, my lines are frenetic, verging on the chaotic. In each mode, I remind myself to slow down, savor the details, and discover complexity within simplicity.”

A native of Southern California, with degrees from UCSB, Princeton Theological Seminary, and the University of Pittsburgh, Jeff Brackett examines the intersections of art and spiritual practices. He lived in India for three years during graduate school, doing intensive language and culture studies. Jeff is now an award-winning Religious Studies professor at Ball State University, where he teaches courses about Hinduism, Buddhism, and Religion and Pop Culture. His 2021 solo art exhibition included several Buddhist-themed pieces. Jeff has also published an article about his journey into art, “Mandalas, Meditation, and Mindful Mark-Making,” where he replies to the question of how spirituality plays a role in his art (“Mandalas, Meditation, and Mindful Mark-Making”; 2018, in Society for the Arts in Religious and Theological Studies). Jeff is working on a book, ‘Zen and the Artful Buddhist: Asperger’s, Art, and Academia.’ Prior to learning of his Asperger Syndrome profile in late 2020, the core of the book project was comparing how the term “spiritual” is used quite differently by religious studies scholars and art professionals. Asperger’s added a new layer that is both exciting and complex. For Jeff, Asperger’s presents itself as an ability for extreme focus, which translates into the skill to do long stints of repetitive linework. 16 ⌇ Art IDEAL v. 2

Pascale Charrier-Royer’s paintings have been exhibited nationally in France, as well as in Hungary, the United States, Italy, South Korea, Luxembourg and Monaco. She describes her intuitive works as abstract in nature, however, there is an underlying viral order that can make her pieces semi-abstract. Creating in series with universal subjects, Pacha mainly uses oils on linen canvas.

“For the past 36 years, my ceramic and sculpture work has centered on macrolevel themes, progression, and patterns of human life. As time relentlessly moves forward, human society evolves, new and unfamiliar concepts emerge, and traditions are both revered and abandoned. These elements ebb and flow and enter and leave and through it all, human life remains a constant. My works hone in on the various aspects of human life and explore related themes, but also challenge them through presenting other contrasting ideas within the same work.”

Myongsin Choi holds a Master’s degree in Art from Hong Ik University, South Korea and a second one from New York University, NY, USA. Along with teaching at North Carolina Central University, Choi has shared her talents with students at Rutgers University, New Jersey and UNC-Chapel Hill and served as an artist-in-residence at the Watershed Center for Ceramic Arts in Edgecombe, Maine. Choi has had a number of group and solo shows including in New York, Rutgers University in New Jersey, and Duke University in North Carolina. Her artwork is included in the Public Project Outdoor Sculpture which is currently on view in Seoul, Korea. Choi’s work is part of many private and corporate collections. She has also had various workshops held in New York, New Jersey, Maine and North Carolina, and South Korea and China.

“My art practice depicts energy and movement that rotates with an interplay of various shapes, tones of color, and light. The viewer is invited to participate in the depth and mystery of the 3D effects created with diverse shapes. As a result, my works are imbued with a sense of curiosity, wonderment, and intrigue that is open to interpretation. My aim is to create a whimsical vibrant genre that brings to life the shapes, lines and forms interactive in urban and natural environments.”
Wendy Cohen is a Sydney-based artist who has earned BFA and MFA degrees. She actively exhibits her work, including most recently at the New York Art Expo, Art Spectrum Miami, Art San Diego. Wendy has participated three times in The Other Art Fair, Sydney and has been published in various art books. “I’m a synesthetic, musicvisualist who creates artworks that visually represent music via personifying composers writing styles, concepts of the musical composition process or particular music pieces. Although I tend to work with specific musical concepts for individual pieces each year, I also enjoy collaborating with musicians and ensembles to help bring new understanding and appreciation to various composers’ works that can be seen with a live performance.”

MARIEKE DE JONG b.1966, Leeuwarden, Netherlands Lives in Ankeveen, Netherlands
Dutch sculptress, Marieke de Jong grew up in rural Friesland in the north of the Netherlands. A vast landscape dominated by water, where untouched nature is never far away. This continues to provide inspiration for her artwork. The dynamics of movement are a constant in Marieke’s art. Her subjects are not posed but instead reveal concentration. Marieke is largely self-taught, despite having sat with various artists. Most recently, a new commissioned design, had to be transparent and that’s how Marieke discovered working with epoxy. A challenging material but with wonderfully clear and powerful results.

A New Vision Oil on canvas 100 x 140 cm María Isabel de Lince was born in Bogota, Colombia and studied Art and Architectural Design at the Javeriana University. De Lince studied drawing and painting at Cooperartes and with master artists, David Manzur, Fernando Dávila and Miguel Moyano. Her work has been exhibited in renowned galleries and institutions in her native Colombia, the United States, Europe and Asia.
“My work is based on the direct observation of elements of nature and phenomena that take place in various areas of the planet. Beyond an objective reading, what I do is perceive sensations originated in these phenomena and translate them into a visual language, impregnated with my own experiences. People evolve influenced by what happens around them; as our environment changes, our perception of it also evolves. Through shapes and colors, I seek to eternalize the subtle nuances generated by this wonderful process of human interaction with nature.”
In 2021, de Lince exhibited in Hungary and at “Mural for Peace” with French Alliance, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. She recently received the XLV Hermes International Art Award 2021, Accademia Italia in Arte nel Mondo Brindisi in Italy and in 2022 she received the 4º International Prize Leonardo Da Vinci by Effeto Arte, Venice Italy.

Untitled Ceramic and acrylic 40 cm “As the Internet became part of my working process, it brought me more courage for change and transgression in terms of making ceramics. I want to transgress it. Give it movement. Physical movement; I want to guarantee my works’ visibility and that it can be displayed online, providing a new experience. This makes me even more excited. Because the biggest motivation is to break the result of burning the clay when it makes the ceramic rigid and move it in a playful way, thinking: creation and audacity, crossings, contacts and friction throughout the creation process and also to cancel the function first of the ways.”
Mary Di Iorio lives between Belo Horizonte and Rio de Janeiro. A visual artist and researcher she actively creates and exhibits her work internationally including most recently at ARTBOX Project, Zurich 3.02021, the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro, Museum of Art of São Paulo, Museum of Modern Art in Belo Horizonte and more. Her work appears in newspaper articles and exhibition catalogs with critical presentations and was recently published in Issue 25 of Spotlight - Contemporary Art Magazine by CFA Press. In 2021, Mary published the book ‘Ceramic Transgressions,’ and the same year she participated in WE CONTEMPORARY, International Art Project by MUSA International in Italy.

Although Donelli has drawn and painted his entire life, he first pursued a career in science. He received a Ph.D. in Physics from Lehigh University, Pennsylvania, and went on to work as a Physicist for IBM’s T. J. Watson Research Center in New York for many years. Prior to retiring from IBM, he studied classical painting and drawing at the Reilly League of Artists in White Plains, NY under Cesare Borgia for 12 years.

Donelli has developed a distinctive painting style most appropriately characterized as Contemporary Realism. To this end, he blends the classical techniques of line, form, edge, and value with the brushstrokes, vibrating colors and light effects of the Impressionists. However, the distinctive contemporary nature of Donelli’s unique style is in his compositions and paint application.
“In my art, I try to represent objects of beauty that each carries their own story whether the painting is figurative, still life, or landscape. This is accomplished using classical painting techniques with contemporary themes. Color theory of the impressionists and compositions reminiscent of the modernists are incorporated into my work to further enhance the drama generated by the underlying strong value pattern I use.”
For the past 21 years, Donelli has been a full-time artist and teacher in Santa Fe, NM. Recently, he has been in 16 museum shows across the country (twice in the “Contemporary American Realism” show at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art in 2008 and 2010). Also, he has shown his work in galleries across the United States for the past 30 years. “My images are intensively colourized appropriately to the central theme of the depiction. I tend to intensify my image arrangements by creating a three-dimensional relief, into which natural shapes and pieces are included. This leads to a greater spatial depth and plasticity. My works are often a blend of underlying figural allusions and accessory transparent or coloured layers. A wide assortment of natural shapes completes the fresh and exhilarating vibrancy.”

“I like my paintings to be strong, whether from colour, form or something else. I want them to invoke an immediate reaction, to create a strong atmosphere and to confront or draw the viewers into the work. My childhood memories of Irish dance have developed into an inspirational and demanding artistic challenge. It is an important cultural part of Ireland that can be intense and competitive but is often steeped in a brash and exciting atmosphere where thundering music, wild movement, rhythm and flashes of colour and light create strong and lasting visual memories. These memories are what I paint.”
Georg Douglas has lived with his Icelandic wife and family in Iceland since 1972. He has BSc and Ph.D. degrees in earth sciences and worked and taught in this field for 36 years. Art has never been far away, however, and he has attended extended courses in painting and life drawing in the two major art colleges of Iceland since 2005 receiving instruction and criticism from a wide range of very talented professional artists. In 2017, Douglas was accepted as a member of The Association of Icelandic Visual Artists (SÍM). He has exhibited regularly since 2010, both in group and solo shows and his work has been published in international art magazines and websites. Several works have been awarded prizes and several have been displayed in public institutions in Iceland and abroad including the Icelandic Embassies in Helsinki and Moscow, University of Iceland and Hamrahlíð College, Reykjavik. “I paint the Hermitage cats, a special breed of cats living in the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg; the cat culture capital of Russia! My latest work is a musical art show titled, “Love Dose”. The images can be both viewed and listened to. Just entire the work title on Spotify! Also, I opened an exhibition of my work as a DJ with house music specially selected for the theme of “Love Dose”. In this work, cats in love are us and I estimated the degree of love as a percentage. This helps to reveal the topic as much as possible by capturing emotions in the picture. The colors of the paintings are very minimalistic and natural.”
Elena Grishaeva works in various disciplines including architecture, interior and fashion design, acting, dance, film-making, DJ and music production. She is also known as DJ Le Nochka. A member of the Union of Designers (Russia) and the Eurasian Union of Artists, her works are in the private collections of Pierre Cardin, the Noskin brothers, Roger Ivar Samuelson, the Dynamo Volleyball Club, the Sofitel Hotel, etc. Elena is inspired mostly by cats, the sea and music, especially at sunset. MARIA TERESA GUALA Maria Teresa Guala was born in Turin in 1947. Her father was a painter and advertiser, coming from an important family of artists in Monferrato. “I create art in order to fulfill two opposing needs: to withdraw from the mundane tasks of daily life and commune with a higher realm and to connect with the strange and beautiful nature of the world around me. In both these acts, I encounter myself. Through instant photography and the endless possibilities of emulsion lifting, my work explores the ephemeral and the instantaneous: the immediate magic of now that disappears just as quickly as it arrives. None of these moments will ever return. I use my work to embrace the uncertainty of this moment, just before it changes into something else.”

She is known for her ethereal instant photography and surreal compositions made from Polaroid emulsion lifts applied to various fabrics and metals. Isabel is attuned to life’s uncertainties-a subject she often explores in her work. Her photos seem to evoke both stillness and imminent action simultaneously: words not yet said, changes waiting to happen. “There’s a harmony that exists in this world,” she says, “whether I pay attention to it or not.” In 2016, Herrera survived a near-fatal car accident that marked a major shift in her approach to life. For over 35 years, Leslie Lew has painted in a technique she calls “Sculpted Oils” which she developed while pursuing her BFA and MFA degrees at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Beginning with her “Supermarket” series, Lew built out all the products with sculpted oil paint.

During her graduate work, Lew was invited to participate in the SUNY/ Semester in New York City, a program much like the Whitney Museum, where she was given a studio and had weekly critiques by respected artists of the time.
With humor and deep affection for products and popular iconography of the past, Leslie Lew creates extravagant interpretations of comic book heroes, food packaging and board games. Her father was an advertising executive who developed, enduring ad campaigns for Kellogg’s, appearing larger than life in Lew’s painting. In a tribute to her father and her childhood, we see the thickly sculpted, painted surface that has become the artist’s signature method. Images that we perhaps associate with mass production are enlivened by highly textured brushstrokes and expansive scale. They are at once art and artifice—delighting in the seductive surface.
She ended up staying in NYC and had her first solo show at Sensory Evolution Gallery in 1985 as one of the artists from the East Village Art Movement. To this day, Leslie Lew continues to exhibit with galleries and museums in the U.S. and throughout the world.

“In order to communicate my creative ideas, I have tried different methods and as a result, I have created the unique technique of “Chopping and Weaving”. I render the consumption of “Deduction” and the regeneration of “Increase” through the accumulation of piles of paint and scraping off and erasing. The object is then simplified and broken up by “deconstruction”, re-combined with the scattered materials to take on “structuralism”.”

XILONG LIU b.1990, Guangdong Heyuan, China Lives in Heyuan, China
During the process, the artist feels very relaxed, treading the painting with an open mind. Xilong’s themes include farmers, child workers, children left behind. His main materials are latex, propylene and carbon powder. In earlier years, Xilong did graffiti with a large brush that allowed for a lot of control of the composition and surprising results. This influence is still present in the way he works today, where the dark parts of his compositions have traces of ink and water and he then employs a unique method to make the white parts reflect light and add brightness. For Xilong, the contrast of dark and light areas on the finished piece gives a sense of the changing circumstances of the sitter’s inner world.

Chun Yi Long began painting at a very young age, taught by his grandmother. Although his work displays a wide range of aesthetics, all series are conceptually connected. After a career as a Senior Engineer in Computer Software, ten years ago, Mr. Long picked up his brush again and began studying and practicing painting. His water-based paintings are made using Chinese and Japanese ink colors, brush and rice paper. Mr. Long has now been actively painting for a decade and continues to exhibit internationally including in Houston, Texas, USA. His painting “Golden Boy and Jade Girl” was published “American Southern News” for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. In 2015, Mr. Long held a solo show in Beijing which was aired on China CCTV Painting and Calligraphy Channel. In 2017, the artist participated in a charity exhibition in Houston for rebuilding and rescuing efforts after Hurricane Harvey. In 2019, a solo exhibition was held in Kunming, Yunnan, China.

Chun Yi Long radically deviates from traditional Chinese painting. Employing a freehand technique, characteristics of impressionism and abstracting, Mr. Long makes use of absorption and diffusion properties of rice paper, allowing color to be integrated into the ink and the ink to be integrated into color, forming natural effects. Mr. Long’s unique method has both technical and conceptual elements of Eastern painting combined with bright colors of Western painting. His innovative artworks reflect beauty and allure.

Yisong Liu graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts of Hunan Normal University, and now lives and works in Shenzhen. In his early practice, he experimented with all kinds of painting media, and at a later stage, Yisong was engaged with ink painting and photography.
I feel that, among many human emotions, compassion is a particularly noble one, and great enlightened beings, such as Lao Tzu, Buddha, and Jesus, are to be admired. I choose “the relationship between culture and nature” as the underlying concept of my painting, stemming from my surprise at the similarity between culture and nature, which both seem to have “birth, old age, sickness, death, mercy.”
In recent years, many of his works have been selected for art exhibitions in China, France, the United States, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Italy and other places.

“My inspiration for this work was to capture this creature’s unique personality. Scratchboard is a wonderful medium for drawing subjects such as animals or a subject requiring realistic detail. To start; using a black Ampersand board, lightly sketch the subject, with a soft white pencil, check the proportions and composition are what you want. For animals, I start with the eyes, nose, and let it emerge from the board, tonal is vital so work dark to light, soft strokes with your blade. Patience is essential, and what emerges is what replicates the image as you see it. Draw directly onto the board rather than trace! You need strong drawing skills, patience, and a willingness to be brave!”

“I am a post-modern artist. My main influences are the modernist avant-garde traditions of the late 19th and 20th centuries. I feel compelled to comment on this great and variegated tradition. I have worked in many different styles and I have done hundreds of selfportraits throughout my life. There are many polarities in art that I have explored creatively to develop a multiplicity of techniques. I realize that some may regard the great tradition as an exclusively white European thing. I disagree with this.”
“There I painted with sponges on large sheets of Fabriano paper in thin acrylic. In 1988-9 I was taught by the master, Cecil Collins at Central school. I almost got into Chelsea but instead was accepted onto the BA at Reading University. That didn’t suit me at all because I have strong expressionist tendencies, and they were mostly “conceptual.” Subsequently, I worked in lock-up garages for a while until I was admitted onto the MA at Coventry University. There I found more freedom and tradition.” Lyell currently lives in Porthleven, Cornwall. For ten years, he has worked on small-scale oil paintings—a strategy he had planned before arriving. “I found peace and happiness in Cornwall and my work improved drastically.” Lyell had three shows of several seascapes in New York, which opened up many other opportunities. “My expertise is in old photographic techniques; graphic and botanical printing. My work is often about the right to be different and to be myself. I have the freedom to do what I want, but it is hard to be understood or get integrated. This has been the reason for making many exhibitions abroad. I am a rebellion. I feel often excluded and rejected by various art groups, organisations and society. I have no home, no mother tongue. This finds its expression in my work without me even noticing. I want to tell my story and show my art.”
Eco+photo 100 x 70 cm “I was born on the Japanese island of Sakhalin, grew up in Moscow, got educated at an art academy in Jerusalem and have been living in Norway during the last 40 years. For me, there is no home, no mother tongue. The Japanese island of Sakhalin was exiled, but better than inside the barbed wire. My parents were military doctors—surgeons, both of them. It was impossible for them to raise children on Sakhalin, so I grew up with my grandparents in Moscow, in a big apartment behind the Bolshoi Theatre, where my grandmother worked as a stage designer. In a dramatic rupture with my father, who had survived Stalin purges and returned to Moscow, I escaped to Israel at nineteen. I lived there for thirteen years. Moved to Norway, Oslo in 1986 by marriage, and live nearby Oslo since then. Marcelle Mansour was born and raised in Gaza to Palestinian Christian Eastern Orthodox parents from Jaffa who were displaced from their homeland in 1948. She experienced wars in her childhood and youth before migrating to Australia. Inspired by her Western-Eastern cultural backgrounds, her artistic voice is shaped by the impact of war affecting women and civilians, reflecting on the global challenges facing humanity. Her work displays an in-depth experience of a unique journey into human psychology, perception, conscience, consciousness and subconsciousness, to see the inner significance of her art. It reflects on reconfiguration of memories rooted in human personal culture and identity, with the purpose of finding hope towards reshaping the reality of human life. Marcelle’s art explores the world of knowledge, wisdom and optimism, its creation, portrayal, and depiction.

“In most of my artwork, I want to transfer on canvas emotions which accompany me during painting. First, I want to make people feel and further think. My recent paintings are referring to natural disasters like the earthquake which happened on my island. Many people lost their houses and assets. I also lost my art studio. These natural disasters are the topic of my new exhibition which will include an installation with the goal of explaining the phenomenon, emotions and effects of an earthquake.”
Magdalena was born and grew up in Poland. She has a degree in Fine Art from the Warsaw School of Arts and Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. After her studies, she moved to Greece and developed her talent under the watchful eye of Botis Thalassinos, who was a close friend of Salvador Dali. Magdalena is a co-organizer and Jury committee president at the Aegean Arts International Festival on Crete, ambassador in Mondial Art Academia and jury at Children’s Art Gallery in Greece. She is the curator of the El Greco Museum and she is responsible for the organization of international exhibitions. Over the years, Magdalena has done illustration, book covers, art installations, animation and sculpture. Maidy Morhous expresses herself through the medium of bronze which allows her to portray the extremes of the soft flow of water to the harsh asphalt pavement of our world. Her artwork encompasses the pop theme of presenting commonplace objects as fine art to engage the viewer and allow them to contemplate and pull from within, and for a moment disengage from the outside world.
An accomplished printmaker and painter as well as sculptor, Maidy Morhous was born in New York and currently creates out of her studio thirty minutes north of San Diego. Morhous received her Master of Fine Arts degree while studying at Stanley Hayter’s Atelier 17 in Paris in the mid-1970s. Originally from Mexico, Manuel Morquecho began studying digital photography in 2009 in Guatemala City, graduating in 2014 from Boston University’s Center for Digital Imaging Arts in Washington D.C. where he currently resides. His main body of work focuses on exploring the urban landscape, the integration of the face and body into fine art, and fashion photography.
“My work captures my own realities; the world as I feel it or imagine it. I have chosen photography as my art-instrument because it allows me to grasp these “realities” in an instant, without the distortions caused by the passage of time and changing feelings. My images are captured both in black and white and color creating timeless portrayals of my imagination and desires. Although they reflect somehow my Mexican heritage, they seek to break national boundaries and transport the observers to an unidentifiable interior place of great beauty and peace.”
Morquecho was the International Photographic Society (IPS) Photographer of the Year in 2015-16 and was awarded the 2016-2017 and 2017-18 Washington DC Government Art & Humanities Fellowship. He has done several solo and group exhibits in Atlanta, Guatemala City, Miami, Washington DC, New York City, London and Italy’s 2018 Chianciano Art Biennale where he won the Leonardo 1st Prize for Photography and Digital Art. In 2019, he was awarded the 2nd Prize in Photography at IPS and at London Art Biennale, and the 3rd Prize Focus on the Story at Washington DC International Photo Festival. In 2020, Morquecho was a winner of LensCulture Critics’ Choice. Sarah Morton studied Art History at the University of St. Andrews and the Art of Black and White Photography at Glasgow School of Art. She has been selected for exhibition with the Royal Photographic Society, the Chania International Photography Festival, and Blank Wall Gallery in Athens, Greece. Morton has won four awards for her photography from the annual Monochrome Awards, and this year she received a Gold Award from the inaugural New York Photography Awards. “The most impactful event in life is the death of loved ones. Instead of filling my days with remorse, I commit my spirit in building a series of monuments in memory of my late wife. The cross on top of the gate represents the religion where she placed her faith. I shaped the clouds on top of the other monument, to remind me that she now is where she belongs, at peace and in the hands of God. The church bell echoes in my ears. The image of her back, dressed in our traditional Ao Dai leaving for mass is vividly come into view. That’s the most nostalgic memory of my beautiful woman and it will stay with me for the rest of my days on this Earth.” Than Nguyen was born in 1948 in Kim Son, Ninh Binh province, Viet Nam. “My sculptures have been described as modernist-based formalism with minimalist or constructivist overtones and a Japan aesthetic. They are often large in scale, site-specific and made for public places. Japanese culture has influenced me and given me a better understanding of art, after visiting the country many times. In the environmental installation “The Mountain Series, 2014-2018” I point out the human impact within the city landscape of Reykjavík. In more recent work, “The Barren Wasteland Series, 2019” I express a collision of journeys in 1952-1977 and 2019, where one world is white and the other one black.”

Gudrun graduated in 1995 with an MA in Art in Architecture from the University of East London. She won the prestigious Membership Bursary of The Royal Society of Sculptors 1997 and later that year the First Winner of the Wybo Haas award. In 1998 she won 1st prize in the International Greenham Common sculpture competition with her site-specific sculpture ‘Changes for the main entrance to Greenham Business Park’. The same year Gudrun was invited to represent the UK at Fabriq’Art, Mereville, France. In 1999 Gudrun competed for the Westwood High School Clock-face commission

“This work concerns only formal issues of line, shape, color and spatial relationships. The “@1/2°” body of work originated out of a desire to see the visual effect some semi-translucent material might have on a field of color when laid on that field in varying thicknesses. A horizontal plane painted blue and tilted at some theoretic angle - @1/2° say - with wax heated to a liquid, poured onto this field and cooled revealed an image that shifted from clearly visible where thin, to one barely visible where thick, obscuring and modifying in interesting ways how we see and interpret that underlying image. The current “lines and dots” series grew from this simple, essential visual curiosity.”

“Lights out manufacturing refers to a fully automated factory that requires no human presence on site. Similarly, the portraits in Lights Out are not real people—they are deep fakes created by AI utilizing a neural network. This network was trained using a dataset of 50,000 pictures of factory workers sourced through Facebook. I empower the machine to visualize those it has replaced by employing these found identities to teach the algorithm to see, interpret and render out its own assembly of 60,000 laborers— one for each factory shuttered since 2000. The faces slowly shift up and down the gallery wall mimicking a conveyor belt and placing the portraits in dialog with capitalist commodities.”

Kaitlyn Jo Smith is an interdisciplinary artist whose works address issues surrounding automation by utilizing processes that have rendered the shift worker nearly obsolete. Through 3D scanning, 3D printing, and machine learning, Smith questions the ethics surrounding the current state of labor practices in America, while drawing attention to the individuals that these processes replace. Raised by skilled laborers in rural Ohio, Smith was thirteen when the housing market crashed and nearly every adult she knew was suddenly out of work. Her artworks make visible the intangible realities of unemployment by employing automated technologies that are directly linked to the loss of over 4 million US manufacturing jobs since 2000. Smith’s work has been shown nationally and internationally at the Tucson Museum of Art and Museum of Contemporary Art in Tucson, Arizona, Split Videoart Festival in Croatia, CICA Museum in South Korea and BIOS in Athens Greece. Knar, Knight with Sword Soil on canvas 145.6 x 112.2 cm DoJoong Jo is a pioneer in the technique of using soil as a material in painting, making him the world leader in the style known as “Earth Painting” or “Soil art”. He created the process out of a moment of inspiration and began experimenting and manipulating red soil. Over the past 24 years, he has developed his technique and expanded his materials to create unique mediums, colors, and application processes for soil art. The minerals in soil lend original colors to his works and allow the work to shimmer when illuminated, creating an exquisite effect and impression.
“The subject of my work is knar: a wound on a tree. Trees secrete sap to heal when they are sick, when the juice hardens, it becomes knar. It is both wound and healing; the cycle of life. It is the image of eternity that I longed for one day, when the time God has given me runs out, I will return to eternity. Ingrid Steckelberg draws her inspiration mostly from objects and landscapes. Ingrid creates abstract works combining different materials and techniques so that raw and brittle structures come to light. Composition of forms and objects create her visual language. “After my father passed away, I found that the body also has a memory of sadness, which is habitual sorrow. When I was studying in France, I worked as a cemetery recherche for my BA and MA degrees. Mourning rituals have been performed everywhere since ancient times. I wanted to break out of old traditions and ideas, but it was a great conflict with my mother, who was deeply traditionalist. “My work focuses on the exploration of dualism over things like: inside vs outside, organized vs unorganized, etc. Most of the time the subjects are portraits because, for me, the duality between what we look like on the outside, and what we feel inside is so complex and fascinating. I do believe that often things are double-faced, whether in action, words or feelings and I try to illustrate all of these the best way that I can. The only thing I plan ahead is the square shape that has the role of maintaining a balanced composition. I like to hypothetically refer to the square as the “walls of my mind” where I know what to place in or leave out.”

Chao Wang is interested in how human beings interact with an increasingly technological society, exploring this through intriguing motifs such as cogs and machinery alongside more biological entities that appear similar to microorganisms. Her surrealist paintings depict an unusual world, using images from the past and present to convey her image of the world in the future.
In the pre-scientific era, people explained some situations through narratives of the supernatural, like fairy tales. Today, Wang thinks science fiction is a kind of subconscious, all-sensory response to the existing world. Therefore, Wang explores the crossovers between painting and science fiction. From the point of view of the microorganism enhanced by artificial intelligence. From the negative space to the positive space. From the familiar element in nature to the object created from the imagination. The idea of science fiction should not be limited to high technology with future scenarios, but also from small little things that focus on the current moment.

Therefore, Wang is interested in how she can use book art as a traditional way to tell her own narrative science fiction. Wang focuses on the tension between organic objects (paper) and technology (ideology). MARTI WHITE
Mixed-media artist, Marti White works in both abstract and representational subject matters. Marti is selftaught with the help of many artist mentors and workshops. Her work is eclectic and covers a broad spectrum of media and subject matter. Marti enjoys beginning with color and medium and letting her tools take her where they want to go. Ms. White works in watercolor, acrylic, mixed-media and collage. She likes to experiment with a variety of “what ifs.”

“When I moved to the West, I felt called to a new artistic path in a new place. By painting from my gut instead of my head, with no concern for what the paintings meant or whether they looked like something, I was able to free up an inner person. I began to have a more abstract way of seeing the world. When the work is going well, I am caught up in the doing of my art. I hope that the viewer will find something meaningful or is moved in some way. If so we have communicated.”
Marti volunteers her time in various art organizations. She is a Saguaro Fellow of the Southern Arizona Watercolor Guild which she has served as Vice President of Shows. She is a Silver Signature Member and an Agave member of the Contemporary Artists of Southern Arizona which she served as president for two threeyear terms. “Experiencing in situ the geographical and ethnographic spaces is vital to connect emotionally and intellectually with the painting. My work is based on a “committed testimony”—I do not hide the darkness or the light that belongs to reality. I have traversed the Atacama Desert, the Saltpeter towns, India, Morocco, Asia, to later recreate and interpret them in the solitude of my studio.”

Wendy Yeo, R.W.S.W. was awarded many prizes and a Travelling Scholarship to Italy and Paris. She has had one-woman shows in the UK, Hong Kong, New York, California, Kuwait and Turkey. Most recently she showed at Monat Gallery, Madrid and Monaco Art Fair.

In 2020, Yeo exhibited at an International Group Show in the Vatican Chancellery Palace, Rome and in 2019 she participated in a group show at the Cyfarthfa Castle Museum, Wales. In 2019 she also showed in Milan, Mantova and Lisbon as well as the Amsterdam Whitney Gallery, Chelsea, New York. “I am involved with natural forms, e.g. trees, rocks and water, portraying movement and space and all the energy of nature. The media I use are watercolour on paper and acrylic on canvas, often also cut-up pieces of my own work as collage. Having been born in Hong Kong, I studied Traditional Chinese Painting and graduated from the Slade School of Fine Art University College London. I like to exploit Chinese traditional use of the brush and the Oriental use of space, combined with a Western individual interpretation of form, light and colour.”

“I am obsessed with the cave paintings from 45 million years ago. I think that the species that once existed can correspond to humans today. Exploring and understanding them can provide new perspectives in our lives. Works include symbols, beasts, treasures, power machinery, mountain and sea landscapes, etc. These symbols project myths, legends, revelations and imaginations of unknown things, aiming to create a certain existence. I use my own creativity and complex background to highlight or metaphor a theme, with delicate and smooth lines, layers and mix and match techniques, I want to inject life and emotion between material and linen.
