Roxana Werner Sarnath Devoción III Mixed media 79 x 59 cm

Chilean artist, Roxana Werner has been actively creating and exhibiting her work in group and solo shows in Chile and abroad. An especially meaningful event was her project “El Porqué de Valparaíso” held at UNESCO in Paris, France as well as XII Florence Biennale, XIII Florence Biennale. Her work is included in prestigious art books that are internationally distributed in museums and galleries and sold online. “Experiencing in situ the geographical and ethnographic spaces is vital to connect emotionally and intellectually with the painting. I have traversed the Atacama Desert, the Saltpeter Towns, Valparaíso, India and the Southeast Asian to later recreate and interpret them in the solitude of my studio. My work consists of four major projects developed throughout my career: ‘El Porqué de Valparaíso’, ‘La Huella del Tiempo’, ‘Del Salitre a Iquique’ and ‘Vivencias mas Aca y mas Alla de la Frontera’.”

Pipe Dream Wall Sculpture, Acrylic on wood 36 x 58 x 3.5 in. Limited Edition Series of 3

“My wall sculptures explore my fascination with three-dimensional geometric forms, inspired by my lifelong passion for abstract art, architecture, color and light. Each piece is intriguing when considered as a whole, but offers endlessly evolving compositions as you look deeper into the work. Careful use of forms and color create spaces that invite the imagination to enter and explore as if they were actual structures.”

Christine Palamidessi is known in the art world for a practice that spans writing, filmmaking, printmaking and sculpture. Her work deals with the interweaving of memory and perception of time and typically shows fragmented artifacts, myths and words that are partially reconstructed using tactile traditional materials such as paper, plaster and inks. The creations are animist, infused with spirits of the past that persist not only in form but also in ancestral and historical memory.

“Creating unique pieces of art is the way to reveal my inner world and connect with people’s feelings and emotions. After having explored many figurative subjects, I realized that it is through abstraction where I find the biggest joy, as it leaves much space for curiosity and imagination. I celebrate my love for all forms in which life expresses itself, by choosing an almost geometric representation of life’s rhythm, made up of coloured shapes, lines and spaces.”

It’s a kind of a stream of information that passes through the artist as if through a portal. “In my work, I reflect contemporary aspects of our time with their contradictions and problems. I seek deep thought, posing questions of a philosophical and universal nature. With a contemporary worldview and a broad understanding of ceramics, I draw from diverse cultures. I also seek universality using the culture of the blind. I combine utilitarian ceramics and sculpture through the structure of the panel and the technique of mosaic as painting and with strong graphic moments.”

The main feature of Marc Kennes’ work, is its uncompromised individuality. His profound knowledge of painterly tradition and technique is a mere tool to create his own world. The work of Marc Kennes must be placed within the artistic and intellectual movements of his time. He has created his own position with a recognizable style within new figurative painting, which is about deep tensions between the darkest of shades and the most sensitive light. For Kennes, artistic quality is inextricably linked to emotional sincerity and truth: a feeling for the non-homogeneous world.

“Born and educated in Beijing, China, I now live in New York, US. Fighting is the theme of my recent paintings, and fighting is the base reality of the human world. Life is fight. Two muscular fighters scuffled together, fierce and violent movements, struggle, savage, brutal, which reminded me of the ruthless reality of society. I love expressionist painting, I like to use bold colors and rough powerful brushstrokes.”

Daniel Freaker Amethyst Dream Acrylic and spray on canvas 130 x 100 x 4 cm Freaker’s paintings sit between abstract and figurative spaces where the way paint is applied is equally as important as the image itself. Some details are defined whereas others are more suggestive and evocative. These provide a rich tapestry of interwoven processes and a textural quality to the work. There are also more unusual processes generating a sense of nostalgia about moments that are both beautiful and painful.
