Forgotten Memory 3, 1, 2 Oil on canvas 100 x 80 cm

“My method is to combine a variety of materials into one piece. In doing so, I can create wandering movements in the viewer’s eyes, but also layers of emotional and intellectual reactions. In this way, I hope to pass my conscious vibrations to the viewers. My work is intended as a prayer’s gate; I use flowers, light reflections, bell sounds, tube shapes, etc, which are essential ingredients for major spiritual practices. This work is my personal prayer to the people and my memory of them.”

Anna-Kajsa’s artwork is recognized for her vivid brushstrokes, dynamic compositions and richness of colour. A sense of nature is present in all her work, inspired by the place where she spends half the year, Öland, an island in the Baltic Sea. Though motifs and inspiration may come from nature, the world we live in is present in the interpretation. A-K has painted professionally since the 80s with several solo and group shows in Stockholm, New York, Rockford, Hanoi, Hamburg, Copenhagen and Florence.

“I paint because I can’t help but paint. Sometimes if I am far from my studio, I simply describe my impressions of the world around me, music, nature, in order to then try to portray them. I’m deeply convinced that an artist should be free from criticism and prejudice. He or she should also be free from fears, including the fear of changing themselves and their art.”

“As revealed by the title, this piece was inspired by the pandemic to suggest a materialisation of my sensations related to the global situation. I created this sculptural composition in stoneware and metal oxides, representing the three essential phases: 1. before the pandemic; living like kings, carefree and light-hearted; 2. the arrival of the virus; a reality we didn’t want to see; 3. resignation to what we are now: puppets with masks.”

It is the psychological aspects of an overstimulated population plagued by consumerism that compels me to search out an inner calmness and a sense of self-fulfillment. My painting is both conceptual and figurative. It often relies on scale to draw the observer into a surreal world of transformation and metamorphosis.”

“Throughout my adult life, abstract thinking has affected my perception of things, probably due to my academic background in mathematics. I tend to look for underlying structures, for abstract concepts. I love the harmony of sand dunes. Through abstraction — new perspective and new color scheme — I prevent quick recognition of the original subject. The brain is provoked to read the image anew and to establish intimate personal understanding and feelings.”

“My artwork encapsulates my close personal connection to natural history, often in a narrative form. With a blend of surrealist and figurative abstraction, my works depict my admiration for the wonders of nature. My brush strokes go beyond the known world, as I explore and vary both concepts and techniques. Figurative abstract art paintings may capture a fleeting moment in time or an abstracted essence that flows eternally. From the mundane to the powerfully dramatic all subjects provide a challenge.”

Daga’s paintings are connected to each other, each image being born from the previous and forming a series.

“The world will never starve for want of wonders, but only for want of wonder.” Handler’s diverse body of work embodies this sentiment. Consequently, Handler continually experiments with new mediums, styles, tools, and techniques. Handler embraces the idea that a successful artist needn’t confine themselves to one lane.

“My current work evaluates the exclusivity of feminist history. Since the 100th anniversary in 2020, celebrating the 19th Amendment securing women’s right to vote, I looked deeply into the 4 waves of feminism from early Suffragettes, through the liberation movement that followed, to the inclusivity movement from 1975 onward. Within the 4th wave focus upon justice for women, the question remains, “Have we really reached an acceptance of our diversity, or is there more to be done?”

I threw myself into my own paintings with a fury and explored my own ways to paint that pushed me into different realms of visions. I am as excited and thrilled today about painting as I was when I first started. When I immerse myself into the next painting, I am always surprised by the results of my own work. Untitled Pen and watercolour on paper 40 x 30 cm

The subject matter confronts the interaction between the human character and the interpretation of the communication between artist and viewer. Its identity once presented to the viewer rests solely upon those who interpret the image, by labelling the work would surely restrict any interpretation from an unbiased point of view. Artistically the problems of spatial identity between the flat plane of the canvas or paper and the representation of a three-dimensional object or figure, and the confrontation of the two, lie within the artist’s own dilemma of representation. To create an illusion of 3D, a lie, or draw a mere outline, more of a truth to the 2D of the flat plane. An illustration, a picture? or art, a painting? It is left to the viewer to decide the outcome, the artist continues to struggle.”
