Yvan Bedard is a fine art landscape photographer. Inspired by the artistic usage of solarization by Man Ray and others (1920s to 1950s), he created his own digital solarization technique. While respecting the original film solarization technique, he succeeded to overcome its random effects and to control most of its subtleties. This allows him to balance at will the negative and positive spaces of a photograph by reversing tones and colors for portions of the photo based on light. Bedard also breaks the traditions of this marginal technique. Historically, solarization was applied to B&W nudes and portraits. Today, Bedard solarizes color and landscape photographs for unique pieces of art.

The painting is Not “Dirty”, it’s about Sweet nervous of being an “OCD”; maybe it looks a bit savage but it’s the humanity, 2019 Oil, acrylic, oil pastel on linen, 400 x 210 cm
“The contemporary artworks of Hui-Chin Cho are reminiscent of sculptural assemblage pieces in the sense that although the paintings exist within two-dimensional surfaces, the juxtaposed forms appear melded together in a sculptural fashion resulting in a complex visual landscape of intriguingly balanced shapes and colors.
The more you gaze at these vibrant compositions, the more intriguing elements you find in an imaginative journey into the artist’s mind. The works may remind us of Daniel Spoerri’s tabletop pieces or they could be interpreted as an architectural footprint showing a surreal, labyrinthic construction inhabited by Cho’s signature surreal, baby-like characters. These abstracted “landscapes” have Cubist references yet this melting pot of references cast them us undeniably postmodern. Cho has managed to create a unique and recognizable style, with a signature use of color and shape, building up intricate content which again in a post-modern way twists the context into itself resulting in pieces that are as visually interesting and pleasing as they are complex and philosophical.” - Circle Foundation for the Arts, Director

“The underlying current in all of my work is my desire to express ideologies of freedom through consciousness. I have been working to portrait the processes that can occur when seeking higher consciousness in relation to the human condition. We are often the creators of our limitations and I seek to portrait the journey from those limitations into awakening. These awakenings are the key to our freedom. It is my belief that through acknowledging and understanding our own psychosis, i.e. the human condition, we transcend and heal.”

The misuse of mercury, the element, began at the end of the 15th century. Its misuse continues to this day. The paintings seek to address images created to further an agenda, used by those in power. The paintings are flawed or broken to show both seen and unseen. War, disease and abuse of power are central themes.”

Camp on the Glacier 1954 / Tungnaárwastelad 2019 Collage 80 x 29 cm Snowmobile in a Glacier Crack 1977 / Jökulheimawasteland 2019 Collage 80 x 29 cm
Icelandic sculptor Gudrun Nielsen describes her Barren Wasteland series 2019, a collision of journeys 1952-77 and 2019. A cabin was built in 1955 by the Tungnaá glacial river at the foot of the Tungnaár glacier in the west of Vatnajökull glacier, Iceland. Back in the 1950’s men drove on snowmobiles from the cabin across the river and straight onto the glacier. Today is a different story, only black wasteland remains, the glacier having retreated many kilometers and the river follows this constant change. The Barren Wasteland series expresses a collision of journeys, her father’s Ólafur W. Nielsen and her own, where one world is white and the other one black.

In current works, I mostly use images of persons, animals, and still lifes captured in my daily experiences. A Japanese proverb accompanies each work, spelling out hiragana and kanji characters intertwine to create a single line. The calligraphic line has one entrance and one exit - which serves as a metaphor for birth and death, and the in-between; life.”

“I love the stark beauty of the wetlands, the power of the ocean and the rugged docks and warehouses of a working waterfront. So much of what we see today of our marine heritage is slowly fading away under the irresistible and relentless pressure of development. My work is simply a small effort to preserve some memories of what used to be, for those who remember fondly, and those who are unaware of what life was like a few decades ago. Some people say there is a sadness to my work. To some extent, there may be, but it is more an admiration and respect for the lives and work of those who work on the water.”

The personality structure which constitutes the human being and the revelation of the unspeakable shows by transforming into a visualized language and the artworks often remind us of a fugitive dream sequence. Marina has lived and worked in Hamburg since 2008.

“I seek for original solutions while I form the glass. I create organic and abstract forms out of shapeless glass material. In pursuit of alluring and surprising forms, I choose ambiguous but meaningful symbols. I often teeter on the border between the real world and the imaginary to discover my true self. The glass sculpture entitled: ‘EF’ is seemingly in the form of letters. This sculpture is an attempt to answer the question whether human vulnerability is strong enough to get a sense of a letter, word and finally, the whole sentence. Or maybe it is weak enough so nobody can even notice the essence of content which is enchanted into synthetic form.

Michael Frank Stitt スティット マイケル (19 August 1961- ) is an Australian composer and landscape architect. He is a twice award-winning landscape architect. After working in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a landscape architect, in 2016 an opportunity became available to spend three months studying the Naguata Shamisen, a three-stringed Japanese instrument, in Chofu City, Tokyo. It was there that Michael became fascinated with Japanese gardens, music and ink painting (Sumi-e). At the heart of his Sumi-e works is the desire to achieve both the Zen philosophy and the Japanese notion of Wabi Sabi.

Misty Mountains of Nara Ink wash (Sumi-e) 20 x 16 in.
Wabi Sabi is an almost unique concept in Japanese culture. It can be defined as a world view centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. An aesthetic beauty that is derived from the “imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete”. It is a concept derived from the Buddhist teaching of the three marks of existence, specifically “impermanence, suffering and emptiness” (or absence of self-nature). Characteristics of the Wabi-Sabi aesthetics include simplicity, economy, asymmetry, roughness, austerity, and modesty. The objective of Michael’s artistic expression is to obtain the maximum visual effect with the minimum of ink applied. Hence, enough ink to convey the idea, and for the viewer to complete the picture through their imagination.
In practicing Sumi-e he applies different shades of grey using water and black ink providing an infinite array of design capability. The narrative conveyed is a reverence and respect for nature, with humanity being depicted, metaphorically, as being in harmony with the ecologically rich natural world. Mountains and landscapes are portrayed as the most important element of the painting, aiming for both the painter and viewer to meditate on the ideal paradigm of the natural order of the landscape. Michael is currently undertaking a research doctorate at Deakin University on the theme of encouraging peace through music composition inspired by the Japanese landscape.
