“ This artwork is part of a series of pictures titled “the red chair.” The chair, metaphorically spoken, stands for the many various roles we assume and the positions we take throughout our lives - whether we do that deliberately or unknowingly, being allotted to or born into it. It also stands for whatever we make out of our lives as individuals. How do we position ourselves in our life? Which chair do we sit on? Photography, mostly macro photography, is the medium of my artistic expression. I got inspired by photographers like Edward Weston, Elliot Erwitt and Henri Cartier-Bresson.”

“My childhood dream was to become a wizard. I realize now the dream came true in my art world, because I am, like a wizard, freely creating magical worlds in my work. Great nature always influences my art, and I create from the beat of the soul with the sensitivity of a children’s pure mind; with an aesthetic sensitivity, not formal, not academic. My art was born from the feeling squeezed out of my soul. I have had five solo exhibitions in NYC, 15 solo exhibitions in Japan, received the Mondrian Award in Holland and more. I always create when I am in a zone; I must feel the pulse of my soul - I call it ‘pulse-ism’.”

My paintings are about crime victims, domestic violence victims and the complex and complicated relationship between Police Officers black and white and the minority communities we serve. I try to convey my feelings on canvas. My work is something a lot of people do not want to look at, especially because it’s from the point of view of the police, but I feel it’s necessary.”

I find that these qualities amplify and magnify the visual language that I use to philosophically convey the view of the contemporary world. The enamel paint is applied gesturally – sometimes poured, other times painted. The process is long and requires time to do its duty by creating a certain viscosity. Then, with an old paintbrush with hardened bristle, I make strokes and marks on the painted surface. Color upon color it goes on. Layer upon layer. Extended Bow (Yoga) Bronze on Black Vermont Granite 20 x 13 x 16 in.

“Beautiful form, creative use of negative space and illusion of movement are hallmarks of my lost wax bronze sculptures which I frequently mount on indigenous stone bases. My roots of inspiration are my life- long love of nature, art and music. I draw upon my accrued knowledge of human anatomy gained as a registered nurse to enhance my figurative work. Working in timeless realism and with timeless subject matter, my artistic intent is to interpret and share my vision of beauty.”

“For as long as I can remember, I have been drawn to the environment and spirit of the natural world. These are huge components of my work and inspiration to create. I work mostly with acrylics, and texture is important to me; I believe it brings out the richness of what I present on canvas. I want to show my viewers the world through my eyes, as well as my dreams, hopes, fears and emotions! As an artist, my goal is to visually capture the essence of the environment and nature. I create images that not only transport the viewer into the environment, but into my imagination as well. My artworks are created with the intention to “speak” to the viewer and elicit emotion.”

Speaking Spirit Series: Two Waters Woman Handpainted photograph 16 x 20 in.

“I came into being as an artist to translate visual stories. My ‘Speaking Spirit Series’ portrays masked women, who are enhanced and empowered by their masks and feathered cloaks. As they go about their journey to contribute visual ancestral and ritual purpose for their communities, their outward appearance is a tribute to all they know and have experienced. My painted photographs link the present viewer to this historic experience of public and private displays of beautiful feminine power.”

“My view and interpretation of art are very different. I use standard photography and at the same time image modification. I have been told many times that I create unusual but also expressive images. These are pictures with both visible and hidden messages for the viewer.”
