Andrew Gough stated: “After raising money for Hackney Quest earlier this year through a charity stair climb, the first thing the One Crown Place management team wanted to know was what more can we do to help. This event was the first answer to that question. The Hackney Quest programme is all about assisting young people in gaining knowledge about access to roles and opportunities within different industries. Our workshop certainly achieved this.”

THE HACKNEY QUEST PROGRAMME Earlier this month members of the CIS team took part in presenting to a young group of individuals from a charity called Hackney Quest. The presentation was about the security industry and the types of jobs that were involved.

WOMEN’S SAFETY CIS Security, the Met Police and the building team at The Gilbert, OSDP and Met Police held a pop-up awareness stand to highlight women’s safety outside of The Gilbert on Tuesday 24th of October. It is essential that everyone is aware of the safety concerns women face, such as harassment, assault, stalking and drink spiking. CIS were able to walk and conversate with the public to provide information on all types of crimes that are trending, we also provided the public with items such as spike testing kits, personal alarms, torches, phone power banks and card defenders. We were joined by CIS’ Security’s Recruitment Team, Georgina Martin, Shelby Martin and Mafalda Oliveira to support this awareness along with Vijay Chand from the Marketing Team. Women’s safety is a fundamental human right and it is crucial that we as a society, take an active role in ensuring it. Well done John Salthouse for such an amazing event!

HOSTILE PERSPECTIVE TRAINING AT ONE CROWN PLACE This month One Crown Place has hosted three more hostile perspective training sessions with our in-house Behavioural Detection Specialist Trainer, Simon Riley BA (Hons). This training was for everyone and included officers, supervisors, and Head of Security, Peter Faram MSyI MCMI. We’ve managed to get representatives from 6 different CIS sites, working and learning together as one team. Simon has now trained 48 people since the 31st July at One Crown Place. Hostile Perspective (HP) is a bespoke one-day package that our CIS Specialist Trainer and Governmental SME (Simon Riley) originally created for the MPS in 2021/22, within Protective Security Operations. This came from the need to enhance the ability of all site users to identify and develop increased confidence when identifying suspicious activity. We know that regardless of profession, the ability to identify and engage with potential suspicious activity, is held by all. This is a package that aims to provide not just awareness, but also nuanced training to any-one that can provide deterrence – whether they be front of house, reception, service teams, clients, security and even our policing partners. HP details and dissects the threat as we now face it and just as importantly, what this threat can and will evolve into. We live in a world that often fails to get ahead of the ‘curve’. All types of threat are covered, from conventional crime to protest activity AND all the way through to Foreign State and Organised Crime Groups. The day culminates in planned hostile reconnaissance activity against another CIS site – how does it feel to be a hostile? Everyone deserves to see and understand the ‘bigger picture’ and as a priority, this makes all of us safer.”

Simon Riley - Behavioural Detection Specialist Trainer

“One Crown Place has been very fortunate to have Simon Riley delivering these excellent training sessions. We ask more of our CIS officers to attend when possible so I feel it’s important we give them the skills and support to be able to do their jobs. This training is important as it not only covers hostile reconnaissance from a terrorist threat but also spy’s, protestors, sexual predators, and thieves. All of which are potential threats to our security professionals and the general public. Being able to bring so many CIS sites together is great. It means everyone can bring their own ideas and opinions from their own sites. By doing this we can all learn from each other.”

Andrew Gough - Security Manager (One Crown Place)

PATERNOSTER SQUARE SECURITY FORUM Earlier this month, Head of Security, Peter Faram, chaired the final Paternoster Square Estate Security Forum for 2023. It was a great privilege to welcome former military colleague Liam Tobin and Ronald Henry from the City of London Police as guest speakers. Liam delivered a presentation on his 24-year career in the EOD and how the inherent threat from unexploded ordnance and how IEDs have changed how the British Army operate overseas. Liam also refreshed members on IED recognition and components. Thanks, Liam Tobin. Ronald, from the CoLP CTSA, gave a current CT update and an update on the Counter-Terrorism Strategy. He explained the importance of using the NPSA website for Security Planning and Operational Requirements. He reiterated the importance of having a security plan that

is well-tested. Thanks, Ronald Henry. It was also a pleasure to have continued support from Inspector at City of London Police, Caroline Hay. Caroline gave an update on the December Operation Reframe, Walk and Talk Scheme, and the importance of a collective effort to support VAWG and the safety of vulnerable persons. Peter Faram stated; “I would like to say thank you to CIS who have fully supported the forum over the past years. Thank you to all previous guest speakers, and thank you to all forum members who have kept the forum going for many years. Finally, thank you to Damian Hickman and his team at IDRC for providing me with a fantastic venue. It’s greatly appreciated.”

REMEMBRANCE DAY CIS and Paternoster Square welcomed their first collaboration with the Royal British Legion. Over the past 2 years, Head of Security Peter Faram has formed a great friendship with Mr Charles Andrews B.E.M. (Charlie). Charlie was awarded the British Empire Medal for his 19 years of volunteer work with the Royal British Legion, sacrificing two weeks of his personal annual leave each year to support this wonderful charity. Charles has raised over £1 million during this period and each year he adds to this. Last year, an agreement was made between Peter and Charles that Paternoster Square supported by CIS Security and company volunteers, would help support Charles and the Royal British Legion. The initial launch was on Friday the 27th of October 2023, and CIS supported until the 10th of November 2023. A huge well done to Peter Faram, Jonathan Dower, Andrew Gough and all who participated in this great cause!

REMEMBRANCE DAY This year on Remembrance Day our CIS ex-veterans Company Trainer, Lee Leyland, Regional Account Manager, Barry Thompson and Head of Security, Peter Faram, along with our MD Neill Catton paid their respects at the Lewisham War Memorial. They were also joined by a few employees who also paid their respects.

WELCOME TO CIS - DAVID PERRY CIS Innovative Solutions’ continued growth has meant that we have expanded the team. A huge welcome to our new Security Systems Manager for Service & Design David Perry.

After leaving University, David began working for an AV and IT solutions company as an Engineer, learning IP Networking and installing CCTV and Smart Home systems. He quickly found himself supervising a team of nine engineers, overseeing the installation of CCTV, Intercom, Internet, FIRS Television and Smart Buildings systems for the Elephant Park residential development, at the time this was the largest residential development project in Europe. Following this, David moved into Enterprise security, working as a Project Engineer where he was involved in large system installations for global companies such as Uber, Snapchat, and Accenture. David eventually moved onto ICTS, where he was involved in providing security systems for Microsoft’s Data Centres – although hard and sometimes tedious work, the knowledge that he gained installing security systems for one of the largest companies in the world gave him extensive experience within the electronic security field. The next stage of Davids career, saw him move to LMG as an Infrastructure Systems Design Architect, where David developed the security design for the now largest datacentre in the UK.

PRS FOR MUSIC: The Head Office for PRS for Music, recently suffered issues with their CCTV Server – causing camera outages across the whole building. As their maintenance provider, we needed to ensure that a replacement was sourced and installed swiftly. The parameters of the system dictated the server must be capable of continuous recording at 1080p with a 30-day retention of recordings. We deployed a Milestone Husky server with 24TB of storage. The implementation of this was complicated by the fact the PCs and Servers containing license and camera version details had all failed. We utilised the Professional Services department of Evolution Security, our supply partner, who specialise in server and database installations. Following the delivery of the parts, we were able to implement a replacement server, bring all cameras back online, and retain licensing information within two days.

VEHICLE BARRIER INSTALLATION Definitive Security Solutions collaborated with CIS to enhance security at one of our prestigious West London sites, by installing two state-of-the-art automated barriers.

The customer emphasised the importance of mobile accessibility for all systems and requested future-proofing measures. The new office is situated within a Grade II listed building, presenting our team with specific challenges that were successfully addressed during the installation process.

Access Control: For access control, we implemented the latest version of Paxton, Paxton10, and installed Paxlocks integrated with mobile access.

CCTV: To ensure comprehensive surveillance, we deployed an IP Hikvision CCTV system. The system is linked to the client’s mobile phones, enabling remote monitoring, and ensuring real-time visibility in and around the premises.

MENTAL HEALTH TRAINING On the 1st of November it was Stress Awareness Day! On this occasion that shines a spotlight on the impact stress can have on our lives. It serves as a reminder for each one of us to take a step back, acknowledge the stressors we encounter and take a moment to breathe, reflect, and prioritise your mental well-being. Remember, it’s okay not to be okay sometimes. Let’s raise awareness, start conversations, and support each other in this journey. Stress has a psychological impact that can manifest as irritability or aggression, a feeling of loss of control, insomnia, fatigue or exhaustion, sadness or tears, concentration, or memory problems and more. The video link to the right shows our CIS Training team carrying out their Mental Health Training to a group at One Crown Place, this training is vital to understanding our mental capacity, allowing us to give it the same attention we give to our physical health. This helps, employees leave feeling prepared and confident with the appropriate tools and resources to support one another in the workplace. Thank you to our Company Trainer, Darcy Fletcher, Training Manager, Steve Wicks and Security Manager, Andrew Gough for such an helpful and insightful day.

CIS joined the SBTi working group on the 14th of November Science-based targets will enable CIS with a clearly defined path to reduce emissions in line with the Paris Agreement goals. Currently, we align ourselves with the Crown Commercial Services for carbon reduction. But we are now looking ahead of the curve, and we want to set a reduction which aligns towards a scientific approach in relation to carbon reduction. More than 4,000 businesses around the world are already working with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

CHARITY COLLECTION AT 20 GRESHAM STREET In October the team at 20 Gresham Street hosted their own collection for London’s Air Ambulance, the team worked seamlessly together, taking time out to raise as much as possible for this great cause; from arranging, setting up on the day and to taking part this truly was an amazing effort. London’s Air Ambulance is the charity that delivers advanced trauma teams to London’s most critically injured patients. Using a helicopter from 08:00 to sunset, and rapid response cars at night or in adverse weather situations, London’s Air Ambulance brings the hospital to the patient when time is critical. At CIS we are proud to have London’s Air Ambulance as our chosen charity and happy to continue supporting them with their amazing work!

ESG - GOING ABOVE AND BEYOND Security Officer, Olayinka Ogungbemi, at Thames Court has been working for CIS for three months. Olayinka regularly commutes using Swanscombe railway station that serves the village of Swanscombe in north Kent. As a regular commuter, Olayinka wanted to give something back to the community and help keep the station clean as he noticed it required some much needed attention. He managed to assemble a team of volunteers who cleaned the whole station including two nearby roads connected to the high street. Olayinka’s efforts haven’t stopped there, he is already planning to arrange cleaning projects in various locations every month.
