TURN THE WORLD AROUND ....... by Harry Belafonte, Robert Freedman, Arr. Roger Emerson

“Turn the World Around” is a song that was originally written by Harry Belafonte and Robert Freedman for Belafonte’s album of the same name. The album features interpretations of folk songs from various cultures. “Turn the World Around” is based on a song from Guinea that incorporates African mythology and carries an uplifting message. As Belafonte said, the song’s lyrics ask the question, “Do we care about each other? Because, if we do, together, we can turn the world around.”

“TaReKiTa” is a piece composed by Reena Esmail, featuring the popular raag - a melodic framework in Indian classical music - called Jog. The piece incorporates both major and minor modalities. Although the pronunciation of the text is very intentional, the text syllables used in the piece are onomatopoeic vocalizations of the table.

With the success of the show Mamma Mia! the music of ABBA crossed over into the mainstream of popular music, and this is one of their biggest hits. This arrangement was arranged for CISMF by Sheldon Rose. It is the perfect way to celebrate the joys of music and singing. After the postponement of CISMF for the last few years, we all say, “Thank you for the Music.”
