Speaking of which, the city has lined up an attractive slate of worldclass events, headlined by the 2018 Honma Hong Kong Open, Hong Kong’s oldest professional sporting contest and one of Asia’s top golfing championships. This year’s Open features a stellar line-up of A-list golfers including rising superstar Tommy Fleetwood and Spain’s Sergio Garcia, both fresh off the Ryder Cup’s winning European Team, as well as Patrick Reed, the reigning Masters Champion. There is no lack of outdoor destinations in Hong Kong, with the sea and coastal areas close by most of them. You may be interested to know that Hong Kong has one of the longest coastlines among the world’s great cities. What astounds is its sheer geographical diversity, from rugged cliffs to pristine beaches, tranquil bays and sheltered coves to alluvial estuaries, our compact city has them all. Turn to page 12 for an introduction to our magnificent coastline. As one of Asia’s movie hubs, Hong Kong is unsurprisingly a favourite film location for international and local movies alike. From among the countless movies that have been made in Hong Kong, we have chosen our top ten list of famous film locations to visit in the city. Please check out our feature story on page 16 for our picks, and remember to piggyback other sightseeing opportunities while reliving your favourite movie moments. Food is in focus this month as the city hosts the Great November Feast, a celebration of gourmet parties, culinary events, and restaurants tastings across the city. With over 11,000 restaurants offering cuisines from around the world, Hong Kong is justly known as Asia’s culinary capital. We encourage you to partake in as many of these food tasting opportunities as you can and immerse yourself in our vibrant food culture. Hong Kong’s largest outdoor music festival, Clockenflap Hong Kong, returns for its 11th edition with over 100 acts spread across six stages. EARLY ENTREPRENEURIAL SPIRIT 早期的企業家精神

Emmanuel Rafael Belilios came to Hong Kong in the early 1860s and prospered as a brilliant businessman and philanthropist extraordinaire, writes Arthur Hacker

Belilios 在1860年代早期來到香港，後來成為出色的商家及慈善家。

ong Kong established a significant expatriate community within days of its founding by Captain Elliot in 1841. The first to arrive were British, American and Portuguese merchants from the foreign trading houses in Canton (now called Guangzhou), China, and Macau, along with traders from British India. These entrepreneurs from the Indian subcontinent included Parsees, Armenians and Sephardic Jews, whose ancestors had sought refuge in British India. Hong Kong was considered the gateway to China and a good place to do business. It attracted a steady stream of fortune hunters, among them was an eccentric young Sephardic Jew called Emmanuel Rafael Belilios, who arrived in Hong Kong in 1862. He proved a brilliant businessman and soon made a fortune. Like many of Hong Kong's successful nouveau riche entrepreneurs, he built himself a magnificent mansion. Belilios believed in the old real-estate formula for success: "Location. Location. Location." He chose to build next door to the Governor's Summer Residence, Mountain Lodge, near the summit of Victoria Peak. Belilios

named his home The Eyre. Nearby he built a folly (decorative building), with a spectacular view. He soon discovered that living on the top of a mountain was a transportation nightmare. A gifted lateral thinker, Belilios imported a camel which he used to commute between the Peak and Central. However, with the opening of the Peak Tramway in 1888 the beast became redundant, and in a fit of melancholia committed suicide by jumping off a cliff. Belilios was an ardent supporter of the British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli (otherwise known as Lord Beaconsfield). The following news item appeared in The Graphic in 1881: "Lord Beaconsfield has no more enthusiastic admirer than Mr Belilios, a public-spirited citizen of Hong Kong, who not long since gave $11,000 for the erection of a statue of his hero in that city." When told of the plan, his lordship demurred that he "would prefer not appearing in marble or bronze in his lifetime." This did not prevent Belilios from erecting a splendid building and naming it Beaconsfield Arcade after his hero. It was possibly the most beautiful piece of architecture to grace Hong Kong during

the Victorian era. A public lavatory has recently been erected on the site. However, the steps that lead up to it from Queen’s Road, as Battery Path, can be seen in an engraving that appeared in The Graphic. This stairway has somehow survived "time’s devouring hand". When he refused to let Belilios erect a statue in his honour, Lord Beaconsfield suggested that the $11,000 should be spent on founding scholarships. Belilios took this advice to heart and established a couple of awards for the College of Medicine, the forerunner of Hong Kong University. Belilios became a philanthropist extraordinaire, but his charitable schemes did not always work out. He once bought a building site on behalf of the Jewish community for a synagogue but when the community was ready to start construction, Belilios refused to release the site, claiming that only half the land was intended for the synagogue. A court case followed, which Belilios won. The fabulously rich Sassoon family eventually built the synagogue on another site at their own expense. ln 1893 the government set up a school for girls on Hollywood Road. Belilios donated $25,000 toward the project on condition that the school was named after him. That year Queen Victoria awarded him the CMG – nicknamed ‘Call Me God’ – for his community work. He died in 1905. Today, the Belilios Public School flourishes still, having relocated to Tin Hau Temple Road. Its motto is "Climb high. See wide." – an aspiration that Belilios achieved on a daily basis in his early years, with a little help from a suicidal camel.■

29 November 1975 Kowloon Station, The Kowloon Canton Railway terminus in Tsim Sha Tsui was closed permanently. The station was demolished in 1978 to make way for the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Only the station’s Clock Tower still stands, to be enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.

12 November 2006 The historic Star Ferry Pier in Central at Edinburgh Place was decommissioned after 48 years of service, replaced by Piers 7 and 8 of the new Central Ferry Piers 300 metres further out. Today, only Pier 7 is used by the Star Ferry.

HONMA 香港高尔夫公开赛 Star-studded field set to battle for the 2018 HONMA Hong Kong Open crown “2018 HONMA 香港高爾夫公開賽”將於粉嶺香港哥爾夫球會舉行

he 2018 HONMA Hong Kong Open presented by Amundi celebrates its 60th anniversary with its strongest field of world-class golfers yet. The event kicks off the 2019 European Tour Race to Dubai calendar and also anchors as one of the Asian Tour’s closing events, thus ensuring four days of keen competition and exciting action on display at the Hong Kong Golf Club in Fanling. The impressive field includes two of the heroes from the winning European Ryder Cup team in France in September. Tommy Fleetwood, who earned four points for the European side, will be joined by Spain’s Sergio Garcia, the 2017 Masters Champion who broke Sir Nick Faldo’s all-time scoring record in a Ryder Cup career. Widely recognised as a rising golf superstar, Fleetwood – who is making his third appearance at the Hong Kong Open – was also the 2017 European Tour Race to Dubai winner and came in second to Brooks Koepka at the 2018 US Open. Making his third appearance here is American golfer Patrick Reed, nicknamed “Captain America” and the reigning Masters Champion, who staved off charging fellow American golfers Rickie Fowler and Jordan Spieth at this year’s Augusta National to win the coveted Green Jacket and his first Major. Other star attractions include Wade Ormsby, last year’s winner who is keen to mount a successful defence of his title, Matthew Fitzpatrick a multiple European Tour winner, Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnston, the colourful Englishman and fan favourite and Spain’s Rafa Cabrera Bello who will be looking to go one better than his second place finish in the last two editions of the Championship. If the past is any indication the tournament should provide superb shotmaking and dramatic finishes, with a new champion joining the list of illustrious past winners including Majors Champions José María Olazábal, Justin Rose, Rory McIlroy and Padraig Harrington. Away from the golf course, visitors can enjoy the festive atmosphere of the Spectator Village, which offers golf, food, drinks and entertainment for the whole family. The tournament is free to the public on Thursday and Friday. Tickets for Saturday and Sunday are available for purchase via Ticketflap. Hong Kong Global Geopark 香港世界地質公園 This UNESCO-designated geopark comprising groups of islands off the eastern coast of Hong Kong is home to fascinating rock formations ranging from wave platforms to jagged outcrops to surprising caves. Most of the rock here is volcanic but the small island of Tung Ping Chau displays a uniquely sedimentary geology. One of our oldest fishing villages remains essentially as it has been for over a century. This popular destination on southwest Lantau is known for the blending of structure and sea with its houses built on stilts over the water and where fishing is still a way of life, now supplemented with tourism.

Yung Shue Wan and Sok Kwu Wan are the two best-known villages on this enchanting island south of Hong Kong. A moderate hike from Yung Shue Wan to So Kwu Wan passes through an idyllic village where resident foreigners and locals rub shoulders, a swimming beach, and a gentle hill with gorgeous view of the island coastline before descending into an small estuary that is home to a rich variety of foliage, birds and marine life, ending with a pleasant seafood dinner at one of the many waterfront restaurants in Sok Kwu Wan .

For a totally different landscape, one in which the low-lying coast is dominated by the ebb and flow of the tide, either of the Mai Po Reserve and nearby Nam Sang Wai are well worth a visit. Here, the vista is one of wetlands and mangroves that are home to migratory birds, mudflats, fish ponds and ancient villages. The Hong Kong Wetland Park offers a similar environment, and its educational programmes and guided tours are perfect for kids.

A six-kilometre shoreline further down from Mai Po in the northwest corner of the New Territories is an ecological delight. Comprising Sheung Pak Nai and Ha Pak Nai (upper and lower), the coastline is one of expansive mudflats and wetlands. It is renowned as one of the best spots to watch the sunset, and nearby Lau Fau Shan is home to several seafood restaurants. A temple with a 1500-year history and a colonial fortified structure are of interest to visitors.

Repulse Bay Beach ( Love is a Many Splendored Thing , 1955 )

淺水灣泳灘 (生死戀, 1955) The story of American reporter Mark Elliot (William Holden) falling in love with Eurasian doctor Han Suyin (Jennifer Jones) was one of the earliest Hollywood movies filmed in Hong Kong. It won three Oscars, including for Best Song. In one scene, Mark and Suyin drive to a beach on Hong Kong’s south side. Filming took in three different locations – Repulse Bay, Stanley Beach and Middle Island (across from Deep Water Bay). The colonial Repulse Bay Hotel in the film was torn down but, in its place, you can find “The Veranda” – a stately European restaurant overlooking the beach. Aberdeen ( Enter the Dragon, 1972 ) 香港仔 (龍爭虎鬥, 1972) One of Bruce Lee’s finest movies extensively features Aberdeen Harbour where Bruce Lee and company board a junk to the mysterious Han’s Island for a fight fest. Back then the harbour teemed with working fishing boats and sampans ferrying people and goods to and fro. The two famous floating restaurants, Jumbo and Tai Pak, were already in business, and they are still there today. Chan supposedly injured himself from the stunt he did sliding down the pole inside the shopping mall. The Ocean serves up premium fare from Bellin’s native Brittany, a coastal region of northern France known for its fresh seafood and seasonal ingredients. We were invited to try out the special degustation eightcourse menu, and were only too happy to accept. Each course of the dinner is themed with an element of an oceanic journey and we set sail with amuse bouches and a delicious breadbasket. The first appetiser, dubbed Ocean Breeze, was chaud-froid of cauliflower with parmesan ice-cream and squid ink jus, in which the reduced sauce adds a nice flavour to the cheese-based cream. Sea Anchor, or fresh green asparagus, burrata, smoked haddock milk foam, was new to us. The burrata is soft and with just the right amount of chewiness and the milk foam adds to the asparagus flavour. First Wave, which is pan seared coral Brittany langoustine, beetroot and buckwheat tartare and black pudding, is another delight. The pan-seared lobster meat is tender and well complemented by the tartare and pudding.

Deeper into this ocean journey, and we meet Blue Lagoon, comprising Japanese sea urchin, oatmeal foam, ginger and butter sauce. The delicate sea urchin quivers with a range of flavours. Another exquisite dish came next, Great Reef, which is Brittany blue lobster lightly cooked, brioche and pork head veil, curry sauce, apple and grapefruit condiment. The dish’s delicious flavours are well matched by its colourful presentation. The sea journey is coming to an end, and that means one more seafood dish before desserts, which was Deep Sea, or confit Brittany monkfish, gnocchi, seaweed, audouille crisps and parsley extract. Dessert dishes should wind down a good dinner, and we chose Decompression, or buckwheat texture and carazin ice-cream and Coastal View, or Strawberry tart version 2018, which did the job nicely. The storyline of this compelling meal is simple: the best and freshest ingredients from Brittany and elsewhere, artfully presented the French way, and impeccably served. At $1588 per person ($778 additional for a wine pairing of six glasses) for such a first-class meal, it’s definitely a worthwhile endeavour. We also sampled two seasonal dishes that were on offer and which we highly recommend: Plounéour-ménez pigeon with duck liver cooked in puff pastry, potato tartlet and periwinkle juice ($718) and Poached duck liver, flower crabmeat and ginger consommé ($488). Both taste special indeed. Overall, we were most impressed with The Ocean. If you want an exquisite dining experience before you return home, head down to Hong Kong Island’s quieter side and give it a try.■

Known for its dim sum and authentic Cantonese dishes, it also periodically introduces innovative menu concepts, taking advantage of Hong Kong’s robust culture of culinary cross-pollination. So, when Dynasty announced a beer-pairing menu, it piqued our interest. While pairing Chinese food with wines is not quite passe, it has become mainstream, something offered by many fine-dining Chinese restaurants. Beer tasting? Not so much. As any committed beer drinker will tell you though, beer goes very well with Chinese food. We know of a well-known winepairing guide in which, when it comes to Sichuan food, simply states: beer. That makes eminent sense. Beer’s refreshing carbonation effect goes well with savoury or spicy food; and the bigger gulps help rinse the palate. For our lunch, Executive Chef Suen Kam Sing chose a six-course menu paired with two artisan craft beers by Duvel Moortgat of Belgium, a Flemish brewery founded in 1871. Before starting on the tasting menu, we were treated to a couple of Dynasty’s signature dishes: Deep-fried Shredded Taro and Cashew and Honey-roasted Char Siu or Roasted Pork. The tender and sweet-tasting char siu certainly got us off to a good start.

with Deep-fried French Quail Legs with Five Spice Chilli Accompanied with Marinated Tribute Vegetable in Chili Peppercorn Sesame Sauce, with the vegetable marinade helping bring out the flavour of the fried quail. The paired beer is the Vedett Extra White Belgian Premium Wheat Beer 4.7% alcohol ($95 per bottle), the crisp, refreshing citrus aroma contrasted nicely with the meat. Baked Fresh Lobster in Sea Urchin Sauce is next. The lobster is lightly fried then baked with the sea urchin sauce with mayonnaise, which helps retain the moist and succulent texture of the meat. Then came Sauteed Kale with Dried Shrimp and Minced Pork Served in Clay Pot, where the kale is cooked with shrimp paste and Dynasty’s home-made X.O. sauce. Next comes Poached Vermicelli with Fillet of Garoupa in Hot and Spicy Soup. Here, Chef Suen combines the best of Sichuan and Cantonese cooking, substituting the thin fish slices favoured in Cantonese cooking with thick, more textured Garoupa fillet. An excellent strong golden ale, Duvel Belgian Premium Wheat Beer 8.5% alcohol ($95 per bottle) is paired with the soup and kale dishes. The stronger beer goes well with the spicy soup, adding a zesty taste to both. To cap it off, two dessert dishes, Baked Egg Custard Tart, Egg Fritter Glazed with Honey Sauce and Chilled Mango Sago Cream with Pomelo in Mini-style, help rebalance our palate. At $688 per person (minimum of two persons), the tasting menu is quite reasonably priced. So, if you are looking for a delicious meal consumed with excellent craft beer, you’ll want to check out Dynasty and its beer-pairing menu.■

飲食文化，定期推出創新的菜單。所以，當滿福樓宣布推出“手工啤酒配對套餐”時，我們果斷前往品嚐。將中餐與葡萄酒搭配在一起並不是傳統習慣，但現已成為許多高檔中餐廳的主流菜式。僅僅是品嚐啤酒嗎？並非如此。正如啤酒愛好者都會認為，啤酒與中國菜是絕佳搭配。一本著名的紅酒搭配指南書籍提到四川菜時，只簡單地說了“啤酒”二字，十分精確。啤酒清爽的碳酸口感與辛辣食物相得益彰，大口暢飲口感更佳。行政總廚孫錦勝為我們帶來別出心裁的六道菜手工啤酒配對套餐，配上兩款由比利時 Duvel Moortgat 釀造的手工啤酒。 Duvel Moortgat 始建於1871年，是 Flemish 知名啤酒廠。在開始品嚐正式菜單之前，我們享用了兩道滿福樓的招牌菜：金絲脆腰果以及蜜汁叉燒。這兩道前菜大大滿足了我們的味蕾。

Involtini Italian Cuisine – Hokkaido Crab 北海道大閘蟹 Tasting Menu

Involtini Italian Cuisine is a pleasant hidden gem. Founded by Chef Jack Law who apprenticed at the Michelin 3-star restaurant 8½ Otto e Mezzo Bombana, Involtini specialises in handmade pasta and its own cured meats. Since opening in 2016, the restaurant has earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand for two consecutive years. The cosy restaurant offers a friendly and relaxed ambience, perfect for casual gatherings or special occasions. We were there to try the restaurant’s Fall promotion – the Hokkaido Crab Tasting Menu, which, at $788 per person, represents excellent value. The tasting menu starts with Real Tomato, an amuse bouche that is barcala and fish with tomato sauce, followed by Shellfish on the Beach – fried mini crab, squid tartare in razor clams style, mini piadina with crab roe. The antipasto is a real delight, a “Shu Mai” of seabass, guanciale and hairy crab roe in Rotolini. The two primo are Pan-fried Risotto with Prawn, Khumbo Hairy Crab Soup and a pasta of infused Homemade Squid Ink Tagliolini with hairy crab roe and salty egg seafood sauce, which is delicious. The secondo of Crispy Rice Pizza with Hairy Crab Roe and Flowers rounds out the meal before the desserts which are Lemon+Pear+Ginger Dolce, plus Ginger Tea with Lemon and Honey.

Our meal was paired with an excellent selection of Italian white and sweet wines, smartly chosen to match the flavours of the food. We were most impressed with Chef’s Law’s innovative infusion of Italian, Chinese and Japanese cooking styles. We believe the restaurant is destined for greater acclaim and we highly recommend a visit for a delightful meal.

Papa Joe – Meat lovers’ Delight 肉食愛好者的舌尖之旅 Argentinians are dead passionate about two things: their football and their steak, and in both, they yield second to none. So, it is welcome news that Papa Joe has recently opened at Knutsford Terrace, one of the city’s better-known dining hubs, to serve authentic Argentinian cuisine focusing on quality steaks plus selected Mexican and Brazilian dishes. Papa Joe’s executive chef and co-founder Raaj Gurung and his founding partner Chit Gurung are both Nepalese natives with substantial restaurant experience, with Raaj acquiring his steak-cooking skills from working at Hong Kong’s first Argentinian steakhouse, among other upscale outlets. The spacious restaurant features a dining area and a lounge, its décor of red-brick walls and artworks is contemporary and appropriately earthy. In addition to its featured food, Papa Joe offers a wide selection of cocktails, beers and wines as well as live lounge music after dinner. We sampled several of Papa Joe’s signature dishes. They include Freshly Made Chicken Taco – mango salsa, fresh avocado & smokey jalapeno tamarind sauce ($48each); Sea Bass Steak – a grilled 200-gramme sea bass steak, Rainbow Vegetables & Fennel Root Stew and Light Puttanesca Sauce ($298); Capellini

Pasta & Crab in Parmesan Cheese Sauce and Caviar ($158); and Sizzling Chicken Fajitas served with tortilla bread, sour cream and guacamole ($168). For steak we chose the excellent Cuto Beef Tenderloin – Argentinian Grass Fed Free Range Premium Chilled Cuto Beef Tenderloin 250 gramme ($338). The dessert was a generously portioned Crepes Kahlua Mascarpone ($78). Papa Joe serves hearty, delicious Latin American food at reasonable prices. It’s the perfect venue for a relaxed and fun meal after a long day of shopping or sightseeing. ICHU Peru

Peruvian food is becoming more popular the world over, including in Hong Kong. The recent opening of ICHU Peru, by celebrated chef Virgilio Martinez Veliz, of the awardwinning Central restaurant in Lima, is a case in point. ICHU offers contemporary Peruvian cuisine in a bistro-style setting. The restaurant, whose richly-textured Peruvian-inspired décor recreates the casual, relaxed atmosphere of a local dining in Lima, is divided into distinct sections which include a main dining room, a separate bar, a chef’s table, and a large outdoor terrace for additional guests. We were keen to try out the authentic Peruvian food that ICHU delivers under its Korean-born head chef Sang Jeong, a protégé of Chef Martinez. We started with several signature appetisers that included Pargo Al Rocoto – snapper, celeriac, avocado, aji rocoto ($150), a zesty Peruvian- Japanese dish, Palta Alta Quemada – charred avocado, aji limo, tomato ($100), a Quinoa Salad – quinoa, greens, goat cheese, ginger sofrito ($140), and Peru’s most famous dish, the Ceviche Classico – snapper, choclo, red onion, sweet potato ($150). For our sharing hot plates, we tried Pez Amazonia –

seabass, tamarillo, ashed leaves ($420), a juicy baked fish wrapped in banana leaves; Tacutacu Chupe – tiger prawn, Peruvian black beans, local red pepper, squid, rice ($180); and Costillas De Res – beef short rib, coriander, seco sauce ($360), a well-cooked, succulent short rib. Two desserts, Tres Leches – vanilla sponge, milk, carrot sorbet, carrot meringue ($90) and Queso De Cabra – goat cheese cake, quinoa, raspberry coulis, raspberry ice cream, tapioca tuile ($100) rounded out this delicious meal. ICHU is a welcome addition to Hong Kong’s evervibrant dining scene. ‘The Primordial Rhythm of the Earth’ at Oi Ling Antiques 2 Nov – 2 Dec. “The Primordial Rhythm of the Earth” (原韻) is a symphony rendered not in musical notes but in colours. The powerful images presented in this collection are inspired by Zhou Lian Hua's (周蓮華) perception of a universal rhythm that gives order and harmony to all elements, both celestial and earthly. This understanding of a universal rhythm came to her implicitly at a young age during her childhood on a farm— an upbringing largely in tune with the changes of and variations of natural phenomena in seasons and climates. Centre for Heritage and Arts The revitalised Central Police Station compound, the largest heritage project in Hong Kong, has opened its doors to the public as Tai Kwun – Centre for Heritage and Arts. The CPS compound comprises 16 historic buildings, including three declared monuments (Central Police Station, Central Magistracy and Victoria Prison), on a 13,600-square-metre site in the heart of Central. An international-grade art gallery and an auditorium have been added to contribute to the adaptive reuse of the site. The heritage site includes new art galleries and the Parade Ground and Prison Yard. Rebecca Kwan, the new Chairman of the Hong Kong Hotels Association, talks about the appointment and her outlook for the hotel industry. 香港酒店業協會新任主席關淑華與我們分享她的新工作和對酒店業前景的看法。

I started my career working at an inbound travel agency where I dealt with hotels. That eventually led me to working for a hotel, the old Furama in Central. Since then I’ve held various positions in Sales & Marketing for both international deluxe hotel chains and boutique hotels, including The Ritz-Carlton, Hong Kong and Kempinski Hotel Group before joining the Dorsett Group, managing and overseeing its various hotels in Hong Kong and London. I have been a member of HKHA’s Executive Committee since 2009. I was appointed Second Vice Chairman in 2017 and elected Chairman in 2018. It’s a new challenge for me, but one I am looking forward to. I am proud to be the first lady Chairman of HKHA in its 58 years of history. We now have 16 female hotel GMs in the association but only myself on the ExCom. So, I would very much encourage more female GMs to serve on the ExCom to help advance the interests of the industry.

我的職業生涯始於在一家入境旅行社工作，從那時開始與酒店打交道。也因此最終去了中環的原富麗華酒店工作。從那時起，我在國際豪華連鎖酒店和精品酒店（包括香港麗思卡爾頓酒店和凱賓斯基酒店集團）擔任銷售和營銷職位，之後加入帝盛酒店集團，負責管理和監督其在香港和倫敦的連鎖酒店。我自2009年起成為香港酒店業協會執行委員會的成員。在2017年被任命為第二副主席，2018年當選為主席。這對我來說是一個全新挑戰，但值得期待。很榮幸能成為香港酒店業協會58年來的第一位女主席。我們現在有16位女性擔任酒店總經理，同樣也是協會成員，但只有我進入委員會。因此，我鼓勵更多的女性總經理加入執行委員會，促進行業發展。

As Chairman, I intend to fulfil HKHA’s mission, enhancing participation of Executive Committee members in major decision-making to draw on the breadth of HKHA expertise and increase transparency. I hope to expand membership benefits, including promoting technology applications and providing better industry information.

作為新任主席，我認真貫徹香港酒店業協會的宗旨。在香港酒店業協會管理上，我將邀請更多執行委員會成員參與其中，特別是在重大決策制定方面，以吸取更多專業知識，提高透明度。此外，無論是在科技應用推廣還是提供行業信息上，我希望能提供更多元化的支援與成員。

HKHA’s priorities very much mirror those facing Hong Kong’s hospitality and tourism industry. A key issue is a shortage of manpower, which will only sharpen as more hotels open. If left unaddressed, this could affect delivery of our service standards. Therefore, we are expediting the development of SMART hotel solutions, led and driven by a new dedicated HKHA sub-committee with members including business partners, member hotels, academic institutions and local service providers based in Hong Kong Science and Technology Park.

香港酒店業協會的工作重點，在很大程度上反映了香港整體酒店業和旅遊業所面臨的問題。第一個問題是人力短缺。隨着酒店的不斷增加，這個問題將變得更加尖銳。如果不加以解決，可能會降低我們的服務標準。有鑑於此，我們會加快發展智能酒店，以減輕人力短缺問題。事實上，協會剛剛成立了一個專門的小組委員會，負責領導和推動智能酒店項目，成員包括商業伙伴，酒店協會成員和香港科技園的供應商。

I am cautiously optimistic about Hong Kong’s tourism sector. We just opened the High - Speed Rail and the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macau Bridge, which will bring in more visitors. It’s important we make sure there are enough hotels and with the right levels of service to meet the increased demand. Asia’s tourism sector continues to be competitive as countries vie for tourism spending, and Hong Kong needs to ensure it has adequate infrastructure and capacity to accommodate different market segments.

我對香港旅遊業持謹慎但樂觀的態度。剛剛開通的高鐵和港珠澳大橋將帶來越來越多的旅客。因此，我們要確保有足夠的酒店，有高水平的服務，以滿足不斷增長的需求。隨着其他地區旅行成本不斷增加，亞洲旅遊業極具競爭力，香港需要確保擁有足夠的基礎設施和服務能力，以配合不同市場的需求。

Internet, social media, digital technologies and the emerging “internet of things” will continue to impact how hotels operate. This global trend is why we are so keen to implement our SMART Hotel initiative – to help our member hotels keep up with the rapid changes. I love Hong Kong, 100%! What inspires me most is this fascinating contrast between East and West: the great diversity of people, lifestyle and food culture. My recommendations for visitors: 1. Enjoy our magnificent harbour – walk along the Tsim Sha Tsui harbourfront and admire the stunning skyline of Hong Kong Island opposite. 2. For a panoramic view from on high, head to the Peak or Sky100. 3. Check out our beautiful outlying islands, such as South Lantau and the beautiful beaches of Cheung Sha.
