Grant Stone’s rise to become an awardwinning and highly respected real estate agent in Cairns has its roots dating back to when he was a young 21-year-old who ventured out in his first business. The First National Cairns Central real estate agent, who was recently named in Queensland’s A-List which recognises the top one per cent of Queensland’s agents, has always had a deep-rooted passion for hard work, excellent customer service and above-and-beyond dedication. He started his own nursery, landscaping and maintenance business in Port Macquarie when he was just 21, which quickly became very successful thanks to his sheer determination. After building the business up over 16 years, he sold it, took a well-earned break and travelled around Australia for a year with his family. After all the beautiful places they visited they fell in love with Cairns and moved here over 15 years ago.

In his four and a half years since joining First National Cairns Central he has become a Queensland-wide First National gold-medal winner for three consecutive years, as well as being named to the Queensland A-List and receiving a company Platinum Award this year. “There is nothing more rewarding for me than seeing my clients’ excitement when I bring a buyer to a property that feels just right for them or selling a property for a price the vendor is over the moon with,” the happily married father of two daughters said. “To be entrusted and invited into a client’s property, meet the family and assist them with selling their home is a huge responsibility and a trust that I never have, and never will, take for granted.” Grant says his best move in the industry was joining First National, one of the top real estate companies in Australia and New Zealand.
He opened and operated two highly successful franchises in Cairns Central and continued to work long hours to provide premium service to all customers, which resulted in both shops rising to number one in the franchise chain.
“There is a real family feel to our team at the agency,” he said. “Everyone brings something new to the table, and our leading marketing options, innovative technology and training the company provides is second to none.”
Then he followed his dream, his heart and passion into real estate.
Grant continues to provide a super-high service and recently expanded his team to include personal assistant Kaitlin Reichardt.
“I absolutely love the real estate industry,” he said. “I really enjoy meeting people and helping them buy or sell their properties. Whether someone is buying a property for the first time or they have bought many properties before, it gives me great satisfaction and pride in presenting them with the keys to their new home.” He embarked on his real estate career about eight years ago in a tough economic market, but despite the challenging times he quickly rose to become one of the top agents in the city.
“I am so lucky to have a wonderful wife, Leonie, who supports me behind the scenes in every way possible,” he said. “I work extremely long hours and most often seven days a week, and there are some days when I’m sure she feels that everyone else sees more of her husband than she does! But she has been beside me every step of the way. I couldn’t do it without her.” His skill and ability to bring the right person to the right property has seen him sell hundreds of residential and commercial properties, apartments and blocks of land. His industry expertise, knowledge of the Cairns market and his honesty and integrity is why he has so many referrals and positive testimonials from clients. “Buying or selling one of the most valuable assets people will ever own can be stressful for people, and it doesn’t have to be,” he said, which is why he makes it his mission to ensure every transaction for all clients is as stress-free and enjoyable as possible. “That’s the way it should be - a memorable experience,” he said. “It’s gratifying for me to have a happy buyer and a happy seller. At the end of the day when both parties are happy I am too.”

So you’ve made the decision to build a new home and but you are not sure where to start. Building a new home is an exciting venture. It’s not something that we do every day and for most people it’s the biggest financial investment they will make so do a little research before making those final decisions. It’s very important to feel as comfortable as possible during the building process. Budget is the probably the first thing you should establish. You can do this by having preliminary talks to a bank or mortgage broker to establish what you can afford to borrow and, of course, repay. You should include amounts for swimming pool, extra site works, landscaping or any other items that you want to complete your new home package. A good idea is to have a small contingency in case you change your mind and want to include a ‘must have’ that you’ve seen recently. Once you’ve established how much $$’s for the total project then finding the block of land you want to build on can take time and patience. I suggest you start looking at what area you want to live in and then consider what land is available before you start looking at floor plans and designs. Sometimes the budget will also dictate the suburbs that you can consider as there can be a great difference in pricing for land around Cairns area. Some land will require more site costs because they are sloping or in a specific planning area,
or may be affected by a higher cyclonic building rating. This is when you should start talking to your builder. Experienced builders will be able to do a conceptual budget for your new home and that will help determine whether what you want is within financial reach. Do get a few alternatives and be particular that the home design you select will compliment your lifestyle and be the most suitable for your land. If you are upgrading your home your priorities may differ from a first home owner’s priorities. You’ve already worked out what you want and don’t want, so you can be more specific with your requirements. Find a builder who will listen to you and will incorporate those requirements in the design and budget of your new home. Choose someone who you can communicate comfortably with and you can work with for the duration of the building process. One of the biggest advantages of building your own home is that you get a home that is customised to you and your family and you can put your own personality in the finishes and features.
