(Civil Engineering) Higher National Certificate
Overview
This Construction and The Built Environment (Civil Engineering) HNC is designed for students who are already working in civil engineering. Completion of this course can lead to membership of professional institutions such as the Institution of Civil Engineers.
What you will learn
This course covers topics including how to design and build infrastructure of the future, design principles and application for construction and the built environment, science and materials for construction and applied mathematics for the built environment.
How you will be assessed
Modules studied are assessed by a combination of methods including coursework, projects and presentations.
Where it can take you
When you complete the course, you may eligible to progress to study a full degree in civil engineering, This qualification can be used for progression towards chartered status and advancement to higher levels of employment within the civil engineering industry.
Course duration 2 years, part-time Centre Ashley Down Entry requirements Students will usually need: Access to Higher Education Diploma including 30 Level 3 credits in Maths and Science OR 24-48 UCAS points OR BTEC Level 3 in Construction and the Built Environment English and Maths GCSEs at grade 4(C) or above Students with an NVQ Level 3 in a relevant subject or relevant work experience at the required level for an acceptable period of time will be considered.

Level 4 & 5 Foundation Degree
Overview
This foundation degree integrates the theoretical principles and practical applications of therapeutic approaches in the creative arts. You will explore how a creative approach can be used to support children and young people, older people, people with learning disabilities and those with mental health issues, and understand the professional framework of the arts in health field.
What you will learn
The topics covered on this course include how the creative process can help to develop self-awareness, team working and communication skills, how the therapeutic process works, and creative expression through words, movement, art, music and sound.
How you will be assessed
This course is assessed through a combination of practical work, presentations, group work and coursework. Throughout the course you will work in practical placement settings to enable the integration of theory and practice.
Where it can take you
This foundation degree will enable you to work therapeutically using the creative arts in art, health, care or education contexts, whether in the statutory sector or community/voluntary settings. If you already work in creative arts and/or in one of these settings, this award will enhance your existing skills and your employment potential.
Upon successful completion of this course, you may be able to progress on to the BA (Hons) Educational Studies degree at the University of Plymouth. Please note that there is a deadline for progression applications, and places may be subject to availability.
