Level 4 HN Flex Module
Overview
The Graphic Design Practices Module Level 4 course is part of the HN Flex programme, which allows students to study individual units and gain a Certificate of Unit Credit, with the opportunity to progress onto a Higher National Certificate (HNC) or Higher National Diploma (HND).
This HN Flex course allows students to learn graphic design techniques and practices, and to build up a portfolio of work that will support professional development or progression into further study.
What you will learn
The course is very flexible, and can be tailored to include areas such as design and multimedia principles, typography, editorial design, corporate identity, branding, packaging and digital creativity. You will develop skills in generating ideas and concepts, research, referencing, presentation and communication of your work and professional software including Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.
How you will be assessed
Students will study alongside Higher Education Graphic Design students and complete assessments for the part of the course that they join.

Photography
Overview
This course will teach students with a passion for imagery to capture your surroundings, explore your creativity and individual approach to photography, and develop your awareness of photography’s commercial context and potential. The Higher National Certificate has six core units and two optional; the Higher National Diploma has two core units and six optional that can be selected to suit individual students’ styles and interests.
What you will learn
This course covers a broad range of photography topics and allows students to specialise through their module choices. Topics include photographic techniques, visual language, silver-based imaging, digital imaging, studio photography, location photography, specialist and independent practice and professional development.
Where it can take you
Upon completion of year 1 and receiving your Higher National Certificate, you can continue studying for a second year to complete your Higher National Diploma. After this, many students begin their careers as studio or freelance photographers, or you may choose to top-up your HND to a Bachelor’s degree by studying for a third year at university.
How you will be assessed
This course is assessed through internal assignments, which will be verified externally.

FdA Professional Photography
Level 4 & 5 Foundation Degree
Overview
This foundation degree will teach you to develop your own unique photographic perspective on the world, explore your creative and individual approach to photography and develop your awareness of its commercial context and potential. You will work on live briefs throughout the course, set by our industry partners, which often work to a tight deadline with feedback to fully reflect a working brief. Our photography studios and darkrooms are designed to help you explore analogue and digital photography techniques, and our strong links with commercial studios, innovative photography groups, exhibition spaces and visual festivals support our students to develop links with employers.
What you will learn
You will have a choice of modules covering a variety of photography skills, including photographic techniques, visual language, silverbased imaging, digital imaging, studio photography, location photography, critical paper, specialist and independent practice and mediation.
How you will be assessed
This course is assessed through a combination of group work, coursework, practical work and presentations. There are also written and research elements to each assignment, which encourage your thinking, reflection and project awareness. In your second year you will research, develop and write an extended essay.
Where it can take you
Many of our Photography students go on to work in the creative industry around the city, or become freelance photographers. On successful completion of this course, you may be able to progress on to the final year of the BA (Hons) Photography degree at the University of Plymouth. Please note that there is a deadline for progression applications and places may be subject to availability.

This course leads to the Cambridge CELTA qualification, which allows students to teach English to adults either in the UK or abroad. This course is available either face to face at our College Green Centre, or entirely online.
What you will learn
The five main topics are: Learners and teachers, and the teaching and learning context Language analysis and awareness Language skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing Planning and resources for different teaching contexts Developing teaching skills and professionalism You will also learn essential skills for teaching including lesson planning and observation.
How you will be assessed
Your performance will be assessed holistically, based on the progress you make on the course. To receive the qualification, you need to complete the course and meet the assessment criteria for teaching practice and four written assignments.
Where it can take you
After completing this course you will be qualified for employment teaching English as a foreign language.

Overview
This foundation degree empowers students working in an early years setting to transform their practice through reflection and research. What you will learn

Overview
This course is for students who have completed FdA Early Years and want to convert their qualification to a full honours degree.
What you will learn
This course covers topics including the nature of early childhood education, pedagogy and culture, democracy and children’s rights, children’s markmaking and symbolic representation, and reflective practice.
How you will be assessed

Where it can take you

Overview

What you will learn

Aircraft Maintenance Engineering
Level 3 UKCAA/EASA Part-66 Licence
Overview
This course gives students the required licence to work as an aircraft maintenance engineer. You will be required to complete 864 hours of training to achieve the qualification including in excess of 90% attendance. This equates to 12 hours a week (two days) for around 36 weeks.
What you will learn
You will learn the fundamentals of aviation mathematics and science in addition to aircraft aerodynamics, structures and systems for turbine engines.
How you will be assessed
To achieve the EASA Category A licence module examination certificate, you must pass with 75% and above.
Where it can take you
