SWIM LESSONS

Choosing the appropriate level... Children should be registered for a level based on their age and ability. Please read the descriptions of skills in each level. Typically, children repeat a level two or three times before mastering skills and moving on to the next. Register for lessons by the week or Saturday sessions. Make-up sessions are not available.

Tiny Tots (3-5 YRS) Class ratio 1:4 Emphasis on submerging face, bobbing, bubble blowing, basic floating skills with support, water entry and exit, and kicking with support. Children will progress to holding breath and to fully submerge their head for three seconds, retrieve items from pool floor, glide, and float for five seconds. Arm strokes and safety skills will also be taught.

Advanced Beginner (7-14 YRS) Class ratio 1:8 Students must be able to complete one lap unassisted freestyle and one lap unassisted backstroke to enroll in this class. Emphasizes stroke refinement. Using a variety of drills, students will learn freestyle stroke with side breathing, backstroke with straight arm recovery, treading water using various kicks for two minutes, standing and surface in-water dives, streamlined gliding, and breaststroke kick with a kickboard. Instructor: Aquatics Staff

Beginner (6-14 YRS) Class ratio 1:4 Students will be introduced to basic swim strokes, floating, and how to properly enter the pool safely. Stroke development will also be emphasized. Students will learn to kick the width of the pool with a kickboard, float, and recover front to back, begin freestyle stroke with side breathing, tread water for two minutes, and kneeling/standing dives.

Swimmer (8-14 YRS) Class ratio 1:10 Successful completion of Advanced Beginner level (or equivalent) is required to enroll in this class. Emphasizes stroke efficiency and endurance. Instruction and drills will teach proper sidebreathing and progression of freestyle stroke, full breaststroke and backstroke for 25 yards, open handed turns, standing dives, and treading water for 5 minutes. The class will also focus on speed and efficiency in the water. Students will also learn competitive starts and turns.

**Please remember to take your child to the restroom before lessons. “Accidents” in the pool are a major disruption and require complete closure of the pool. Children who are not potty trained are required to wear a swim diaper.

AQUATICS ABOUT OUR POOL The depth of the pool ranges from 3½ feet at the shallow end to 9½ feet in the deep end. Heated by both solar and gas, the pool is maintained at a comfortable 80 degrees year-round. Please remember to bring your own towel. If using a locker, please bring a lock to secure your belongings.

The Campbell Wave competitive USA Swimming team is open to ages 5-18 years. Enrollment is ongoing, and practices are held year-round, Monday through Friday, and are divided by age and ability level. Swimmers should attend at least three (3) practices per week to see improvement in both endurance and stroke technique. Swimmers in more competitive groups will be encouraged to attend more practice sessions.

Junior Lifeguard Training The Junior Lifeguard Training program provides youth with lifesaving training, leadership skills, experience using lifeguard equipment, first aid, and CPR knowledge. Trainees will also experience improved fitness and indurance, challenging both the mind and body. The program begins with a three-week Junior Lifeguard Training and continues through the summer as trainees work alongside Aquatics Staff to assist during lifeguard and swim lesson programming. Held at the Campbell Community Center Pool.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION: A try-out and skills test are required to determine the appropriate group placement. Group fees vary depending on skill level and age. COST PER SWIMMER: Monthly fees range from $125 to $165 per swimmer, depending on skill level and group placement.

While Junior Lifeguards is a great work experience opportunity and introduction to Lifeguarding, it does not guarantee future employment. Candidates must pass a prerequisite: 50-yard continous swim test, tread water for one minute, and retrieve a 2lb brick in 8ft of water. Instructor: James Redmond Location: Campbell Community Center Pool. Activity Day Date Time Ages Fee 1212.11 M-Th 6/13-6/30 9:15 am-10:00 am 12-14 $75
