Library Card Signup Month Display Ages: All Ages Sept. 1 – 30 Registration Not Required Celebrate the joy of having a library card by helping decorate the Children’s Help Desk! Stop by whenever the library is open to add your piece to the display.
I Spy Aquarium Ages: All Ages Sept. 1 – 30 Registration Not Required Come see the I Spy aquarium in the Children’s Department. Can you spy all the items listed on our bookmark?
All About Popcorn! Ages: 6 – 11 yrs.
Registration Required Sat, Sept. 10 2 p.m. Learn all about popcorn: what makes it pop, interesting historical facts, and how to prepare the perfect bowl—all while tasting some!
Pigeon Party Ages: 3 – 6 yrs. Registration Required Sat, Sept. 24 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. Celebrate the arrival of a new picture book featuring Mo Willems’ beloved Pigeon character with a festive morning of stories and activities.
Spy Glass Lookers Ages: 5 – 8 yrs.
Registration Required M, Sept. 26 4 p.m. Create attractive spy glass lookers from hollow tubes, read a book about observing the beautiful details of your world, and then go see what you can discover with your new spy glass. Pet Café with DBQ Regional Humane Society Ages: All Ages Registration Not Required Sat, Oct. 1 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Stop by the library to enjoy tea, coffee, or juice and meet a few cats and dogs from the Dubuque Regional Humane Society. This event is free and open to the public. Please consider donating an item or two to the Dubuque Regional Humane Society to support animals in need (visit dbqhumane.org/donate for ideas).
Toddler Obstacle Course Ages: 3 – 5 yrs. F, Oct. 7 Registration Required 10 a.m.
Toddlers will hone their motor skills while jumping, skipping, dodging, and climbing through this fun-filled obstacle course.
Minecraft Party Ages: 6 – 12 yrs.
Registration Required F, Oct. 7 1 p.m. Visit the library on this no-school day to bring your favorite video game to life! Come in costume if you wish, and we will craft torches, swords, and other Minecraft accessories.
Doodle Monsters Ages: 5 – 8 yrs.
Registration Required F, Oct. 28 1 p.m. Let’s celebrate this no-school day by drawing some creepy creatures using the “Doodle Magic Monsters” book and explore other ways to make goofy ghouls with items you see every day. Participants will leave with their own copy of the “Doodle Magic Monsters” book.
Scary Storytime with Costume Parade Ages: 2 – 7 yrs. Registration Required F, Oct. 28 3 p.m. Come join us in your costume for scary storytime songs and rhymes, then go about the library in a costume parade!
Preschool Dance Party Ages: 3 – 5 yrs.
Registration Required Sat, Nov. 5 10 a.m. Help your little ones discover rhythm at this fun dance party featuring our new interactive BEAM projector.
Pete the Cat Party Ages: 3 – 6 yrs. Registration Required Th, Nov. 10 10 a.m. Have a groovy time singing, dancing, and playing games with other cool cats.
Cornucopia Craft Ages: 7 – 11 yrs.
Registration Required M, Nov. 21 4 p.m. Make a lovely cornucopia craft for your table and enjoy a fall story.

Dec. 1 – 31 ‘Tis the season to cozy up with a good book, so stop by the Children’s Department during December to make a winter-themed bookmark.
Santa’s Workshop Ages: Families
Registration Required Sat, Dec. 3 1 p.m. Calling all elves! Here is your chance to make and wrap a few holiday gifts before the big Christmas tree is lit at the library. Join us in front of the Christmas tree in the rotunda after the program for a tree lighting event.
Stuffed Animal Snow Day Ages 3 – 7 yrs.
Registration Required T, Dec. 13 4 p.m. Bring your favorite stuffed animal with you for an afternoon of stories and fun. When it’s time to go your special friend will stay behind for a sleepover adventure! Pick up your stuffed animal the next morning and see photos of what they did overnight at the library.
STEM: How Do Animals Stay Warm? Ages: 3 – 7 yrs. Registration Required Th, Dec. 22 4 p.m. It’s almost winter. What are the animals doing to get ready? We’ll explore lots of different methods to stay warm and run experiments. Families are welcome.
