Severe Weather Awareness Week

Minnesota’s Severe Weather Awareness Week is April 7–11, with a statewide tornado drill at 1:45 and 6:45 p.m. Thursday, April 10. Families, neighborhoods and businesses are encouraged to review and practice emergency plans in preparation for the upcoming severe weather season.

Property Valuation

In March, residential property owners receive a Hennepin County 2025 Property Tax Statement, based on the 2024 assessment indicating taxes due this year, and a 2025 Notice of Valuation and Classification indicating property values used as a basis for taxes due in 2026.

The City’s Assessing Division maintains Eden Prairie property records and adjusts the market values based on actual real estate sales on comparable properties from the past year.

City Center Remodeling Project Begins

After more than a decade of planning, construction will begin soon on a project to relocate and expand the Police Department headquarters from the lower level of Eden Prairie City Center (8080 Mitchell Road) to the vacant west side of City Center.

The City offices and public meeting spaces currently located on the lower level of City Center will also be moved to the main level of City Center as part of the remodel.

Projected to cost approximately $26.5-million, funded by issuing general obligation bonds, the project will keep the Police Department equipped with the latest public safety tools and technology, provide necessary space for current and future staff, and create indoor parking to protect the department’s vehicle fleet from weather conditions. It will also enhance public meeting spaces and streamline customer service. Work is expected to begin in April and be completed in summer 2026.

Yard Waste Site Opens in April

When the snow melts, runoff on your street washes through storm sewers and into local lakes, ponds and rivers, carrying yard waste and other pollutants. Proper disposal of yard waste helps protect the health of local waterways.

Options for managing yard waste include curbside pickup available through most trash haulers, using a local drop-off site or composting in your backyard.

The Eden Prairie Yard Waste Site is open Fridays from 2–7 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m.–3 p.m., beginning Friday, April 25.

Pick Up Pet Waste

Pet waste left on the ground washes bacteria, viruses and parasites into local lakes and ponds, which can threaten the health of humans and animals. Pet waste also contains nutrients that promote weed and algae growth, turning a body of water into a mucky, smelly mess. Picking it up helps keep our recreation areas clean, safe and beautiful.
