Float through fall with Eugene Rec

Summer in the Willamette Valley is magical. The sun is always shining, the days are warm and dry and the amount of outdoor activities one can do is seemingly endless. You know what’s overrated, though? Grass-seed allergies. Mosquitoes. Crowded trails and lakes. That’s why fall is arguably the best season to explore our state. The air is crisp and it’s still sunny. The bugs are gone, leaving pristine mountain lakes open for paddling. That’s where Eugene Rec can help. We offer a variety of hikes, paddles, walks and trips that should fit whatever your interest is. Fall on the Oregon coast is lovely this time of year – sign up for our Alsea Bay or Siltcoos River kayak daytrips. Or if staying closer to home is more your speed, our First Saturday Park Walks will get you to Stewart Ponds and Wild Iris Ridge. Oh, and don’t forget the Eugene River Festival on Sept. 9. Sometimes you

2

only have to go to Alton Baker Park to enjoy the river that cuts through the heart of our city. In addition to getting you into the great outdoors, think of this guide as a way to level-up your fall. Take that Spanish language class you’ve always meant to try or get into yoga. Start lap swimming (Amazon Pool in the fall is the best, just saying). Your garden exploding with vegetables? We offer tons of great urban homesteading classes to help you out. So go ahead. Let us here at Eugene Rec make this fall a memorable one. We have something for everyone.

Adventure. Community. Happiness.

Youth Activities Eugene Rec wouldn’t be the division it is without community support. That’s why we’re grateful to PeaceHealth for sponsoring Rec scholarships that support youth from lowincome families in growing their skills, confidence, leadership and lifelong success. PeaceHealth also partnered on this summer’s Party in the Parks events, where it gave away bike helmets and promoted healthy living. It’s a natural alignment between two organizations that are passionate about creating a healthier community for us all.

Walking in an autumn wonderland

Green is the dominant color of Oregon’s forests, but for Oregonians who take a trip into the foothills in October, they’re treated to a riot of yellows and oranges. The maples and alders that fill the undergrowth of our coniferous forests provide mood lighting for hikers willing to deal with the cooler temperatures and increasing risk of rain. So what are you waiting for? Sign up for one of Eugene Rec’s fall hikes today to see for yourself. GetRec.org

If you register for an activity that is canceled because of low enrollment, staff will notify you and issue a refund. For more about the withdrawal/refund policy, see below.

Withdrawal/Refund Policy

Withdrawal and refund requests must be made to the facility sponsoring the activity.

Withdrawals from recreation activities are subject to a withdrawal fee. A withdrawal fee of $10 will be charged for each registration under $100. A withdrawal fee of $25 will be charged for each registration $100 and higher. A refund will be issued minus the withdrawal fee when requested at least seven (7) or more calendar days before the first activity meeting.

When a refund is requested six (6) or fewer calendar days before the first activity meeting or once a class or activity has started, a refund shall be issued only if: • You move out of town. • You are medically unable to participate. • Department action requires cancellation of the activity (no withdrawal fee will be charged). Refunds will be pro-rated for classes already attended.

No refund will be issued if you fail to show up for a registered activity, class or trip. No refund will be given for athletic league fees and trips that require prepayment of advanced reservation tickets or admission fees. Some activities require a non-refundable registration fee.

In consideration of the right to participate, each participant must acknowledge there are risks inherent in any kind of activity and must agree to assume those risks on his/her own behalf, releasing and holding harmless the City, its officers or agents from all claims for injury or losses suffered from participation. An additional Release from Liability Agreement, signed by the participant or guardian, may be required for participation in some activities.

Building Community Through Partnerships Eugene Rec uses the buddy system. We create transformative experiences that build social connections and enhance the health, happiness and livability of our community. We couldn’t do it without the partnerships of more than 150 local organizations and other City of Eugene departments. That’s why we are so excited about the future. Because of the trust voters showed in the City of Eugene by voting yes for the Parks and Recreation System Plan, we have even more opportunities to grow these crucial relationships. The community has said they want to renovate our community centers, build new ones and create parks and trails for everyone to enjoy. We have a plan for the next 30 years. But we won’t be able to do it alone. GetRec.org EUGParksandRec.org GetRec.org
