Check out the renovated and expanded space
The doors are open Summer has been busy for Eugene Rec. Even as the pandemic continues, we have found ways to celebrate some returns to normalcy. In June, we celebrated the completion of the Echo Hollow Pool and Fitness Center expansion and renovation with a small gathering on the deck next to the brand-new slide and activity pool. We cheered as a local kid from Bethel School District went down the slide and into the outstretched hands of a waiting lifeguard. Then, a month later, we gathered again at Campbell Community Center to celebrate the reopening of one of the oldest senior centers on the west coast. Campbell, too, had been closed for more than a year as it went under an expansion and renovation that saw it increase in size by more than 6,000 square feet. The building is barely recognizable from the Ruth Bascom River Path, with the new wing of the facility striking an eye-catching pose. Inside, people have already started to enjoy more fitness

classes, more space and more camaraderie with friends they haven’t seen in months. These mini-reunions and events are all thanks to the 2018 Parks and Recreation Bond and Levy passed by Eugene voters in May 2018. It allowed us to take beloved facilities and give them new lives for future generations. We couldn’t help but smile as people wandered the premises and marveled at the updates. A lot of work went into finishing both projects, and as we move from a busy summer into the more relaxed ebbs and flows of fall, we hope you get a chance to check out both Echo Hollow and Campbell and say hi. We’d really like to see you.
Adventure. Community. Happiness.

Trainings Conscious Parenting: Raising Liberated BIPOC Children Ages 16+ This series is facilitated by Lift Every Voice (LEV), a Black woman-led, grassroots coalition which aims to provide overall wellness support and a community center to our BIPOC and LGBTQ2SA+BIPOC communities who are targets of racism, bigotry and misogyny in healthcare on a daily basis. This series is designed to begin the process of decolonizing the minds of Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) families. We will decenter white supremacy and its effect on the family structure of marginalized communities; recognize our internalized trauma and fear, and how that affects our children; and move toward liberation so we can raise our children as conident and free creative thinkers. Parents will gain tools to cultivate and sustain genuine, nonviolent, authentic connections to support the whole child. Limited childcare is available for youth ages 2½-10 (must be potty trained).
