On June l, 1961, a new Jefferson County school administration took office. Dr Forbes Bottomly is superintendent of schools succeeding Dr. Robert Johnson . He came from Wenatchee, Washington, and has authored several articles in national journals on ed u cational matters and is a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Delta Kappa . Dr . Delbert G . Peterson is new Director of Instruction succeeding Dr . Lloyd Swenson J ohn E . Bell comes to the R-1 school system as Supervisor of Seni or High Education .

The Key Club , a s tudent organization s ponsored by Kiwanis, is showing movies thi s year in order to brmg a foreign exchange student to Golden. The work of the student exchange is under the direction of the American Field Service. The Key Club mu s t raise $600 and send it to the AFS office in New Y ork. Golden can designate from which general area they would like to have a students.

After we have an exchange s tudent here for one year , we will be eligible to send a student abroad.

THE FREEDOM SHRINE

On Lincoln's Birthday, February 12, G. H. S. was the recipient of The F reedom Shrine. An A\vard of the Denver Exchange Club, a national organization interested in preserving our American heritage, it \Vas presented 1n recognition of Golden students' cit1zensh1p. In an all-school assembly, James A. Sweeney a\varded the Shri n e to Tom Geib, ,vho accepted on behalf of the student body. The band and choir added a stirring climax to the program. Among the 28 documents displayed here, on a backdrop created by the shop and art departments, are reproductions of the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, Washington's copy of the Constitution, Lincoln's copy of the Gettysburg Address, and the U. N. Charter Golden High is the first Jefferson County school to receive this award and is to be congratulated.
