Indigo Earhart (10) is a dancer We can see that c l ea rl y , but what we don't see is what's going on behind the scenes , and the tru e purpose of th e dance Indigo is a sophomore this year and she begins by telling us what the summer was like at her studio, "This year we opened up our own s tud io , and it was really hard because no one really knew about us" The dance photographed here was part of the "Connections with the Wor ld" theme of the whole performance She tells us that the connec ti ons extend farther than just a th eme for her, "an important part of dance to me is dancing with a g r oup of people and having to work off of them" For Indig o , dancing is part of her , and it's what she uses to project her "voice"

As with many of the senior classes at Golden High School, the class of 201 5 bestowed a gift upon their leave. This gift is a way that seniors can give back to and thank the high school collectlve. To the class of 2015, Golden High School is known fo n ts s a ITT ity and strength. A rock, or a boulder perhaps, was placed in the front of the school to represent this idea. Of course, for a more functional use, the rock can be used as a place for advertisment of the arts, sports, and other school wide events As time goes on, the rock will be covered in layers of colors, preserving memories, and strengthening the rock .

Western Nationals "I love the sport and learning new skills every week I spend twenty-two to twenty-three hours a week at the gym and I love s :;=!I it! There are many events at competition, but my all time favorites a r e the beams and bars My f avo r i t e move is the Shaposhnikova . It is when you go from the low bar to th e high bar It is re a ll y fun! I have four coaches at the gym who help me a lot, especially when I got a bad injury th is year. I tore my shou ld er in January 2015 and I was out for six months I love gymnastics and I would love to keep doing it in college."

"My favorite move is the Aerial , when you do a cartwheel and a flip with no hands I have had a very serious injury before I was in a car accident and I went to dance after and did a dive roll and landed on my head and got a brain injury

Improvisation, or improv, is a form of l ive theatre in which the plot, characters , setting, and dialogue of a game, scene or story are created on the spot. Audience member participation in the creation of these scenes is key to this form of theatre . From the actor's standpoint, the ability to think fast and work fast on their feet in the presence of other actors is required The Golden High School lmprov Team takes actor connection to be of extreme importance; silent communication, through body language and eye contact, help these improvers build character and story, toge t her . -

NHS Holds Chili Cook-Off

National Honor Society at Golden High School is mad e up of juniors and seniors that maintain a 3 85 cumulative GPA. NHS isn't just about grades , however National Honor Society is based on four pillars : Leadership, Service , Character and Scholarship All GHS NHS members volunteer at least twenty-four hours per year working in partnership with Pleasant View Elementary school as m e ntors to the students and c l assroom assistants . Family getting together and working hard at something they all love to do !

Playing an instrument is a wonderful thing ! Many people might think it's hard , but all you have to do is practice each day The students in the instrumental department have worked diligently to get to where they are now. Each concert that they perform improves upon the last. The instrumental students are like a big family. They get along and never put each other down They all want to do their best, for the betterment of themselves as well as the entire ensemble . Music is challenging , between reading the music and performing on the instrument musicians have their hands full. When they finish learning something ditticult it's all the more rewarding after the concert is performed.

us about getting to be in Colorado's All State Choir

In February, Monica Scanu was chosen to perform in the Colorado All State Choir, a collection of four hundred top high school student singers in the state The journey to make it there was difficult , "It took me two years to get in , then I spent three months working on music, I even had to drop a class " All the training Monica has received in choir , with Mrs Nickell, combined with her vocal coach was a big help to her with auditions "At All State , I watched a ton of amazing concerts and I worked with some of the most talented singers I've ever heard " Monica went through a lot of hard work and stress for All State, but at the end it was all worth it Her advice to students aspiring to get into All State is to keep working , because it was an amazing experience that she will always treasure

When you go to a bike team race and watch these students, it is evident that they work hard At the start of the race , all of the bikers are wai t ing in a densely packed group of people . When the alarm goes off, their goal is to get ahead of everyone in that group Then , they have to face biking up steep hills , and tak i ng sharp turns This hard work paid off in the end this year, getting the team to state and showing that effort will get you far Throughout the Bike team's season t hey went t o many races , and faced many hardships, but they never gave up , and everything worked out in their favor .

For many people, running is not one of their strong points But for young adults like Alec Hornecker, who is a senior here at GHS, running 1s a hobby " Running makes me a better person " said Alec So far in a 5k (3 5 miles) race, Alec's best t i me is 15 511 Alec is one of the fastest runners in our school. So far Alec 's favorite meet was state of 2015 Alec said he will continue to run throughout college and even after that. Freshman player, number eight Jordan Fehrn (9), started on Varsity team this year. Unfortunately a sudden injury benched him for the season. Starting middle linebacker on Varsity this season was Jordan Fehrn (9). Sometimes it can be awkward when a younger player starts above a player with more time on the team but Jordan said that it wasn't like that at all. Unfortunately three days before homecoming Jordan tore his PCL during practice and he was unable to play for the rem ai nder of the football season . Not only was his ben ching a disappointment, but the injury resulted in Jordan losing precisous playing time When it comes time for college drafting his t otal tackles will suffer as a result. He remains positive however , and tells us th at if he could play anywhere in college Jordan would want to play close to home at Colorado State University

Starting this season with a new coach and new players, how do our boys win together?

Golden's Boys Soccer team is home to some of the craziest and most interesting kids at our school With such a wide range of students it 1s interesting to hear how they have learned to work and succeed together as a team In an interview Trenton Anderson (12), one of the team captains this season, explains that because the team has so many seniors who have been playing together for almost their whole lives , they are able to understand the other player's abilities on the field After Trenton's goal in the game against Valor Christian (center) he goes in to share a hug with his teammate of several years, and co-captain, Evan Gregory ( 12).

Demons Softball improves their record for the fourth year 1n a row

The Golden Demons softball team coached by Mr Herbers had a stunning season This year the girls focused on uniting together as a team through making goals, hosting team dinners and spending time together in team study hall during lunch The Demons finished 11 and 8 and while the girls didn't make it to playoffs they expect to compete at a higher level next season Other teams and coaches have noted the Demons uprising and which has resulted in two First Team All Conference awards won by Morgan Feazell ( 12) and Kristen Dunson (12), one Second Team All Conference award was awarded to Cassidy Paulson (9) and three honorable mention awards given to Mickayla Dyer (10), Haley Bass (10) and Megan Feiner (10) "I think we did so well this season because we're more united this year than ever be f ore. He is known for his sprained ankles . Ryan Blodgett, a senior at GHS , is a starter on our varsity basketball team He has been playing for twelve years and has a great many injuries to show for it. Two shoulder surgeries, two concussions , and an abundance of sprained ankles caused him to be out for one year He didn't let these injuries stop him from being on varsity for all four years of his high school career His favorite memories of p l aying are the Wheatridge games , the rivalry was the best part Ryan's mentors are his father and Coach Anderson He has always looked up to his father because he played in high schoo l and co ll ege Coach Anderson has he l ped him so much through high school , a n d he is one of the best coaches Ryan has ever had. His best game was Sophomore year when he got thirty-two poin ts in one game "Work hard when n obody is watching" Ryan Blodgett (12 ).

When s tud ents are on a team with all kinds of people, they all have different personalities However, they find a way to work together , and because of thi s, the girls basketball t eam had a very success ful season. "We had a great bonding experience f or everyone," said Katie Sherf (10) When the team had to spend seven hours on a bus ride to Palisade , suddenly they needed to find ways to pass the time Not many people would lik e t o be s tu ck on a bus for seven hours, but the se teammates took the time t o ac tuall y get to know each o th er This bonding made th eir playing on the court more connected

Sabrina has been swimming for eleven years and all those years of hard work earned her a full ride scholarship to The University of South Dakota , a division one school. With another successful year one can say the Demon wrestling team has had a favorable outcome.

Throughout the season, the wrestling team has shown commitment and dedication , as well as improvement This year the team proceeded to State, where Chase Daniels (12) represented our Demon pride and finished 1n 5th place After tough hours of practice and persistence , the wrestling team worked its hardest and gave their best efforts They often had the crowd on their feet. Wrestling is not an easy sport It takes lots of skill, muscle , weight , balance and coord1nat1on Despite the challenges these young men and women faced, they successfully overcame them Wrestling, as described by the Golden High School team , is not an easy sport and it takes a lot of ded1cat1on, sometimes wrestlers can get really injured and it can eventually become a very dangerous sport Apart from this , we had a lot of great successes this year, and that's why we're proud to have such an amazing team to represent our school

While interviewing Lisa, it was clear that she loves GHS and isn't afraid to show her Demon pride! She described her overall school experience by saying that it's a really essential part of her life and her future as well. Peters explained that high school was a building block that helped shape her into the person she is today. "This environment has helped me step out of my comfort zone so much by allowing me to take chances with new people and experiences." While reminiscing on her four year journey, she revealed that taking the senior class photo was significant because it unites one student body, regardless of who you are and what you represent. "Having the entire senior class together was empowering because the class of 2016 is a visual representation of Golden High School and what it stands for."

Senior Seminar is a group of selected students who have the opportunity to participate in active , hands on learning experiences This includes being able to effectively communicate with others, as well as having the ability to solve problems 1 all while learning to work as a team . Traveling to new destinations , learning about new cultures and engaging in interactions with speakers are all part of the program Senior Sem guarantees to be a worth while experience , and an unforgettable one at that!

We have five students here at Golden who compete on the Jeffco School District Ski Racing Team : Hayden Holtrop (10) , Megan Oaklief (11 ), Molly Babitz (9), Hailey Norvell ( 12) , and John Weiler (9 ). The students compete in two different races; the giant slalom or regular slalom . For both races there are a series of flexible poles placed on the slope that the skiiers must turn around that are called gates In a GS race the gates are placed 10-15 meters apart , and for a regular slalom race the gates are placed 4-8 meters apart. Due to the larger spacing of the gates in a GS race skiiers can get up to about 30-48 mph when racing downhill. As every racer will tell you , it is quite a rush to speed downhill at that rate . For the overall season this year , Jeffco ski team boys won the league for GS and were 3rd in slalom Girls were 1st in GS and 2nd in slalom Both Hayden Holtrop and Hailey Norvell qualified for the state competition, with Hayden taking 14th in GS .

The boys swim team made some major accomplishments this season Atter a ten year absense from Golden High School. the team 1s diving back into the rankings They are currenlty ranked 4th 1n 4A state, and they placed 3rd out of 26 teams at the Jeffco Invitational Teamates Dane Sundeen (11 ), Cory Leidich (9), Reade Warner ( 11) and Tyler Cohan (10) broke the meet record for the 200 Medley Relay
