Family Community Holiday Joy
Lights in Lincoln Park is bigger and brighter than ever! We are proud of our new displays and very grateful to our generous sponsors who support important projects at the zoo. This year our team of volunteers set up the show in record time, even though we have several new displays. Driving together through the woods, seeing such gorgeous lights, is a wonderful family tradition to keep the magic of Christmas alive in your hearts!

WORD from
WINGA
Volunteer efforts for Lights in Lincoln Park have exceeded our expectations! Our hard workers put up this year’s displays in record time. We want to give an enthusiastic shout-out to Luigi’s Pizza in Manitowoc for providing scrumptious Italian lunches to feed our hungry crew! This year, the zookeepers are putting up a special giving tree to provide tangible options for you to help care for the animals this holiday season. Visit Santa in Cabin 1 on Friday nights, and find an “ornament” with a description of something you may purchase for the animals. In this season of gratefulness, the Lincoln Park Zoological Society wants to recognize all the wonderful individuals, businesses and civic groups that support our efforts to improve the Best Little Zoo! We are extremely thankful for the many generous sponsors of Lights in Lincoln Park, our summer sponsor—Just Orthodontics, and the sponsor of our Moooovie Nights—the Optimist Club. We are proud of the wide range of quality educational events and family activities that we are able to provide with such great support from our community! Betsy Winga President

Canada Lynx arrive to zoo Two more fantastic reasons to visit the Lincoln Park Zoo recently took up residence. Brother cats Grant and Carver were born in May of 2014 at the Minnesota Zoo. They are on long-term loan to the Best.Little.Zoo. “Their names were chosen through recommendations of our friends on Facebook,” said Kathy Schema, zookeeper. “Grant and Carver are two counties in their home state.” Currently, these beautiful cats are getting used to their new surroundings. “Canada Lynx have a personality all their own. They have more difficulty acclimating to a new environment than other North American Cats,” said Kathy. “But they’re doing great,” Kathy said. “Carver, the smaller cat, needs to improve his appetite and gain a little more weight before they can be put on display outdoors in the cold weather.”

mission statement
To assist and support the City’s efforts to maintain an ethical, high quality public zoo. Toward that end we will educate visitors, provide Manitowoc County with a diverse array of native and exotic animals, and improve the living conditions and habitat for animals at the zoo.
McKinley students beautify the zoo The Lincoln Park Zoo was greatly spruced up this fall by a team of hardworking students from McKinley Academy. These inspiring volunteers spent their Thursday afternoons pulling weeds, removing dead shrubbery and generally improving the condition of the zoo’s landscape. They focused enthusiastically on the entrance area and Education Center beds.
Thanks to generous funds collected in the zoo’s donation tubes, the city was able to remodel the zoo kitchen. Now the zookeepers have a more functional space for preparing meals for the animals.
The Lincoln Park Zoological Society depends on the generosity of YOUR support to improve animal habitats, expand exhibits and provide children’s educational programs for our lakeshore community.

“The diligent work of the McKinley students transformed the welcoming aspect of our zoo,” said Kelly Vanderstelt, coordinator of the zoo society. “These kids gave a whole-hearted effort, truly owning their gardening project.”
Additionally, these creative high schoolers invested serious thought into continued zoo beautification. They put together tangible plans, including a “Weed & Feed” community work day next spring, as well as offering to line up garden sponsors who can maintain the beauty of the landscape after the spring clean-up. Stay tuned for ways you can get involved as the spring months draw near!
