Tasting Australia: Cooking With Fire with Africola's Founder Duncan Welgemoed
Africola chef Duncan Welgemoed, in conversation with Mandy Hall, will star in this ode to all things barbecue. Marion Cultural Centre is hosting an evening of bites, drinks and open-flame cooking appreciation.
The acclaimed Welgemoed is set to share stories and inspiration from his new book Cooking with Fire: a love letter to barbecue culture that includes juicy grilled steaks, succulent ribs, ember-roasted eggplant and even a pina colada cake.
Guests will be treated to a selection of canapés inspired by the flavours from Cooking with Fire, alongside a choice of wines from local favourite Patritti and craft beer from Little Bang Brewery who will also join us to share insights into their ranges of beverages.

Can you escape the Egyptian tomb in under 15 minutes? Put on the virtual reality headset and play Escape Simulator, a game that is just like playing in a real escape room but entirely virtual! Spend an evening with your mum and join the local Southern Elders Weaving Group to discover the joys of weaving. During this adult only experience, you will learn the traditional skills and techniques used to complete the art of Aboriginal weaving. Folktales and Fauna: Discover and Design Mythological Creatures
Join Dr Lisa for an exciting workshop exploring the intersection of ancient mythology and local wildlife! Discover how early European settlers may have mistaken native animals for legendary creatures like the selkie or bunyip. Through storytelling, they navigated their new surroundings and created cautionary tales to teach children about its potential dangers. In this hands-on session, kids will design their own mythological creatures, creating lift-the-flap booklets, also known as harlequinade, inspired by local wildlife. This immersive experience blends history, creativity, and storytelling—perfect for young imaginations.

Whimsical Watercolours with Zinia King
This class is all about embracing your childhood sense of play in the wonderfully relaxing medium of watercolour. Learn basic watercolour techniques with Zinia and become absorbed in the interesting ways in which watercolours ‘bleed’ on the paper. Let the watercolour guide you as you create a set of small ‘blob monster’ and then your own larger whimsical creation. Expect to laugh a lot and come away with a new found passion for watercolours.

Liquid Nitrogen Science Show
Using Liquid Nitrogen, we journey through how cooling different materials changes them. We’ll explore solids, liquids and gasses and even plasma in the form of fire.
