Grieving Pet Loss

Keep up to date with the latest information as the nbn™ access network rolls out in the Marion Council area and have your questions answered by local nbn™ staff.

The loss of a pet can have a profound and devastating impact on our lives. Research shows that the loss of a pet is comparable to (and may exceed) the pain of the loss of a human loved one. This workshop will explore what happens when we grieve the loss of a pet, create space to share personal stories of pet loss and provide essential tools for navigating loss. Presented by Michele Fairbairn: Naturopath, Counsellor, Psychosynthesis (Transpersonal Psychotherapy) and Art Therapist.

John Marsden

Wednesday 21 August

Meet the Author: Sonya Feldhoff in conversation with John Marsden 'The Art of Growing Up' John Marsden has written more than 40 books, mostly for teenagers and children, including Tomorrow When the War Began, So Much to Tell You and Letters from the Inside. As the founder and principal of two schools, John is at the coalface of education and daily witness to the mysterious process of growing up. In this insightful manifesto John pulls together all he has learned, sharing his insights in to everything - from the role of schools and the importance of education, to problem parents and problem children, and the conundrum of what it means to grow up and ‘be happy’ in the 21st century. Tuesday 3 September

Noel Braun embarked on a quest of self-discovery after the suicide of his beloved wife of forty-two years, Maris. He decided to walk two of the more popular routes of the Camino de Santiago as described in his earlier book, The Day Was Made for Walking. Two more Camino journeys via different routes followed, the inspiration for the sequel to his earlier book, I Guess I'll Just Keep on Walking. Woven into the story of his spiritual and emotional journey are fascinating stories of the people he met and the challenges he faced.

Compass 'Cancer Support Group'

Blokes Time Out

Your local neighbourhood centre is the perfect place to have fun, meet people and learn something new.

When it comes to cancer, each journey is different. Compass is about finding support while you walk this path. Beating cancer is about more than just treating the tumour. It’s about ensuring that people living with cancer have quality of life, during and after cancer treatment by also treating emotional, physical and health concerns of the individual. Come and join the discussion about quality of life with Robyn who is living with breast cancer.

Don’t stay home on a Thursday morning when you can come together and have a chat, laugh and reminisce the morning away with other local blokes in the area, all while busy cooking up a storm on the BBQ. Now being held in the beautiful Mitchell Park Sports and Community Club.

We have four neighbourhood centres in the City of Marion; Cooinda, Glandore, Mitchell Park and Trott Park, which create opportunities for our community to meet, socialise and connect. For more information about our Neighbourhood Centres visit
