Writing for a Younger Audience with Taylor Anderson Join Taylor Anderson as she introduces her story and explains her process for writing a children's book, along with sharing her best tips for success as a young author. The presentation will be followed by a reading of her book 'Why don't I have that?' and a question time for open discussion. Taylor wrote the book ‘Why don't I have that?’ as part of her Year 11 research project. She wanted to create an early intervention tool for children to help reduce the negative impact of comparison culture. Diagnosed with an eating disorder at age 15, Taylor is passionate about helping young children understand the dangers of unhealthy comparison as they learn to navigate a world where they are constantly exposed to unattainable images of 'perfection'. The Life Writer's Toolkit Story is the lens through which we experience and re-live our lives – but turning our lives into story can be a deceptively difficult thing. How do you know where to start? How do you frame your experience in a way that is engaging and will stand out? It’s one thing to have an interesting life story; the next step is to craft it into a narrative that appeals to an audience, and for this you need a toolkit of literary techniques. This workshop will lead you through a series of non-fiction writing exercises to help you craft life writing that speaks and sings. Structured conversation, guidance, and dedicated writing time will allow you to travel gently into your past and explore the pivotal memories that emerge. You will learn how to find and develop your voice and practice writing techniques that craft engaging, compelling writing that readers will connect with. Library Through the Lens aims to connect, engage, delight, educate and inspire our community online.

Join International bestselling author Anna Downes in conversation with Ashley Kalagian Blunt live via webinar as she talks about her much-anticipated second novel. The Shadow House is a gripping, twisty thriller full of accumulated tension. The story follows single mum Alex, who flees a toxic relationship to an idyllic eco-village in rural NSW. Her arrival disturbs barely submerged secrets and she's shaken by a series of eerily familiar events that seem to be connected to the abandoned farmhouse on the hill. Alex realises that, in escaping her own shadowy past, she may have stumbled into someone else's. And this time, there may be nowhere to run.

Slugs and Snails

South Australia is leading the world in understanding our unique temperate water habitats. One such habitat will be the new shellfish reef at O’Sullivan Beach. Come out to this educational event with Peter, a volunteer at the SA Museum, Research and Collections, Marine Invertebrates section, and learn what makes this type of reef special and what it means for the future of our marine environment.

Would you recognise a native Australian snail if you saw one? Peter, from Botanic Gardens Seed Bank, will teach you to identify different pests and understand more about rare endangered native species we like to call, “the goodies”! He has lots of entertaining stories about this sluggish group and is sure to leave you with a completely new opinion about these slimy animals.
