CITY OF POWELL RIVER RECREATION ACCESS PROGRAM - OPTION 1

Who is eligible? Residents who qualify as Low-Income according to Stats Canada.

What is it? 52 passes for swimming, skating, and fitness at the Recreation Complex.

How to get it: Apply at the Recreation Complex.

For parents who require childcare beyond the hours of 9am - 3pm, we offer Before and After Camp Care. You can drop off your child as early as 8am with pick-up extending until 5pm. Arrange for this service when you register for our camps!

Join us for a program that will focus on the FUNdamentals of tennis! The goal is to spark the love of the sport through stimulating specific coordination activities that will lead to the proper development of tennis fundamentals. This weeklong program will help to develop and establish skills that will allow participants to cooperatively rally, and practice with one another. All participants must bring their own racket, water bottle and appropriate footwear.

Introduction to Horseback Riding

Powell River Therapeutic Riding is offering a summer youth camp where students will learn all about horses! This 3 day camp will teach students the basics of horse care, grooming, stable management and riding foundations.

Incorporating a variety of activities on and off the horse, located at the Paradise Exhibition Park.

Introduction to Pickleball

Ages: 8 - 12

Introduce your child to the growing game of pickleball. In partnership with qPA (qathet Pickeball Association), this 5-day (90 minutes per day) introductory pickleball program is designed to introduce children aged 8-12 to the fundamentals of pickleball in a fun, engaging, and educational manner. Each day will focus on different aspects of the game, combining drills, games, and matches to build skills and confidence.

Bronze Medallion - Lifesaving

Ages: 13 years minimum or Bronze Star Certification

Bronze Medallion teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water rescue education: judgment, knowledge, skill, and fitness. Candidates acquire the assessment and problem-solving skills needed to make good decisions in, on and around the water. Endurance standard is a 400 metre swim within 12 minutes. Candidates must attend ALL sessions.

LIFEGUARD Waterfront

The NL Waterfront course emphasizes the lifeguarding skills, principles and practices that will assist the lifeguard to provide effective safety supervision in waterfront environments. Must have NL-Pool certification and AMOA (Airway Management & Oxygen Administration).

NATIONAL LIFEGUARD POOL OPTION

Recognized as the standard measure of lifeguard performance in Canada, NL education develops the fundamental values, judgment, knowledge, skills and fitness required by lifeguards to provide effective safety supervision in swimming pool environments. Candidates must attend every session. Course includes Airway Management and Oxygen Administration (AMOA) certification. Prerequisites are a minimum age of 15 years plus Bronze Cross and Standard First Aid from an approved provider.

Emergency First Aid/OFA Level 1

Ages: 15 & up

This is a WorkSafeBC Occupational Level 1 equivalent and can be used in the workplace. Through a blended learning of online tutorials plus hands-on training and practice, this 8-hour basic first aid course will give you the confidence to respond to respiration and circulation emergencies, including asthma, allergic reactions, heart attach, stroke and bleeding. Must complete online portion prior to classroom session. Online Module: 4 hours at your own pace, complete prior to classroom session.

Our certified trainers can provide training one on one or in group session. Whether you are new to fitness, need personalized motivation or sport specific training, our personal trainers can develop a program individualized to you and your specific goals. Aquatic Personal Training Packages

All session are 45 minutes. The viscosity of the water provides an excellent source of resistance when incorporated into an Aquatic Personal Training Program. This resistance allows for muscle strengthening without the need of weights. This program is especially useful for those with arthritis, healing fractured bones, or who are overweight.

Weight Training, Spin and Pilates instructor. She is also a certified Personal Trainer on land and in water. Bianca is fascinated by the human body and all its capabilities and the science that always discovers new and improved workouts to either get people in better shape, helps them to recover from injuries or improve their everyday mobility.

Gerrimae has had a lifelong passion for movement, food, and people. She was the owner of Thrive Fitness, went back to school to pursue an education in nutrition, became a certified indoor rowing instructor then opened My Element Health and Fitness. For 15 years she shared her knowledge and energy, empowering women to move and thrive. She has broadened her knowledge base greatly by becoming a nutrition coach to allow her a wider approach to her personal training. Her clients benefit not only from excellent coaching but from her lifelong nurturing of people in her care.

A cheerleader at heart, she is passionate about helping clients meet their health, fitness and mobility goals, regardless of their ability. Kimberley employs a variety of strength and mobility techniques to increase mindbody awareness and improve function.

Roché Rossouw is a BCRPA personal trainer, group fitness instructor and health coach. She is certified in Older Adult, Steady Feet , and Precision Nutrition Level 2, and enjoys teaching people to use the best technique possible when they exercise. “I believe everybody who is able to move, can start somewhere and get stronger if they use good exercise technique, consistently show up to train and try to have fun in the process."

Yoga for Men

Ages: 16 & up

Yoga for Men combines core-strengthening and yoga postures with functional fitness exercises for an amazing workout. Lead by Kelly, a certified yoga therapist, this program is designed for both people who enjoy sports and want to improve their game and people who are looking to destress and find some clarity in life. It will help loosen up those tight hips, lower backs and shoulders.

Therapeutic Yoga Summer Series

Ages: 16 & up

Summer is the time of outdoor activities and fun. Here is Your opportunity for self-care: This class will include elements of back care, balance, gentle strength and healthy aging including joint mobility. Each class will incorporate breath awareness and a final relaxation to ease you back to your summer life. The focus will be adapted to the needs and goals of the participants. This series of three classes needs pre-registration and is limited to a maximum of 12 participants. The program is led by Regina, a certified, experienced Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT)
