Are you new to the weight room? Attend a one hour orientation session to familiarize yourself with our cardio and weight equipment and learn how to use them safely and effectively.

DATES/TIMES: Orientations will be scheduled at a time that is agreed upon between the participant and the weight room attendant.

Our certified trainers can provide training one on one or in group session. Whether you are new to fitness, need personalized motivation or sport specific training, our personal trainers can develop a program individualized to you and your specific goals Our trainers can motivate you by assisting with goal setting, providing feedback and accountability Speak to the Health and Fitness Program Coordinator for more information and to set up an appointment

All sessions are 1 hour. Sessions include you and your trainer in a one on one 60 minute session addressing your personal related goals.

Aquatic Personal Training Packages

All session are 45 minutes. The viscosity of the water provides an excellent source of resistance when incorporated into an Aquatic Personal Training Program. This resistance allows for muscle strengthening without the need of weights. This program is especially useful for those with arthritis, healing fractured bones, or who are overweight.

Bianca Hoppe has a professional background in the medical field and is a certified BCRPA Group Fitness, Aquatic Fitness, Third Age, Weight Training, Spin and Pilates instructor. She is also a certified Personal Trainer on land and in water. Bianca is fascinated by the human body and all its capabilities and the science that always discovers new and improved workouts to either get people in better shape, helps them to recover from injuries or improve their everyday mobility.

Gerrimae has had a lifelong passion for movement, food, and people. She was the owner of Thrive Fitness, went back to school to pursue an education in nutrition, became a certified indoor rowing instructor then opened My Element Health and Fitness. For 15 years she shared her knowledge and energy, empowering women to move and thrive. She has broadened her knowledge base greatly by becoming a nutrition coach to allow her a wider approach to her personal training. Her clients benefit not only from excellent coaching but from her lifelong nurturing of people in her care.

Gail Westgate theory, weight training and personal training for over a decade. Gail has focused on helping people achieve positive health and fitness changes that support their day to day life. She has learned from personal experience how to overcome fears and blocks and develop new skills that promote well being and accomplishment. Gail is especially adept at engaging with clients to realize important life style challenges and integrate new strengths and interest to their day to day life. Her good humour and positive attitude have inspired many people to make long lasting changes and gain confidence in their abilities.

Kimberley Gage is a BCRPA Personal and Older Adult Trainer, Group Fitness Instructor and Yoga Teacher. A cheerleader at heart, she is passionate about helping clients meet their health, fitness and mobility goals, regardless of their ability. Kimberley employs a variety of strength and mobility techniques to increase mindbody awareness and improve function.

Roché Rossouw is a BCRPA personal trainer, group fitness instructor and health coach. She is certified in Older Adult, Steady Feet , and Precision Nutrition Level 2, and enjoys teaching people to use the best technique possible when they exercise. “I believe everybody who is able to move, can start somewhere and get stronger if they use good exercise technique, consistently show up to train and try to have fun in the process."

The Hearts in Motion Walking Group is designed to encourage people to participate in regular physical activity by walking. Walking is a great way to boost health and energy and it's easily incorporated into any lifestyle. You can reduce risk factors such as stress, blood pressure, blood cholesterol, and body fat by incorporating thirty minutes of physical activity most days of the week. Walks will occur in various locations around the community.

Perhaps you just want to socialize with like-minded people, perhaps you want to relax and learn a new breathing pattern for coping skills, perhaps you want to move about to release stress and build back stamina, we have you covered. ActivAge™ is a free group-led physical activity program for inactive older adults. It introduces participants to physical activity and reinforces their commitment to incorporate it into their daily lives. The program is progressive with planned physical activities (stretching, activity, and cool-down) based on ActivAge™ training. This fun and social program will help get participants moving in a relaxed environment with like-minded people. The program focuses on improving activities associated with daily living, strengthening muscles used dayto-day. Each class incorporates physical activities that engage participants, and features in-class discussions and resources to improve overall health and physical wellbeing.

This class offers an inclusive, safe, and affirmed space for the LGBTQIA2S+ community and their allies to practice gentle and therapeutic yoga. Regina (she/they) is a certified, experienced, Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT) with specialty training in trauma-informed yoga. This class is offered with the intention to contribute to the creation of safer spaces with healing potential. The class series is pre-registered and will be adapted to the goals and needs of the participants. Each class will include breath awareness, relaxation practice and movements (yoga asana) adapted to who will be there.

Would you like to take care of your back and prevent injuries? Or maybe you have chronic back issues such as low back pain. Lead by Regina, a certified, experienced Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT), this program focuses on building confidence and a sense of safety to support a healthy back. Participants will build strength and develop increased awareness of the spinal curves to explore movements safely as well as how to use a full yet gentle breath and connect movements of the inner core. Each class includes a relaxation practice at the end that will support managing pain and stress The series will be adapted to individual needs of the participants.

These lessons will be geared towards swimmers who have sensory processing needs. These lessons will be taught in an environment with reduced noise. They are available for those who are autistic, have anxiety or other sensory processing needs, or anyone who feels they would benefit from a more supportive environment.

AQUATIC LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS

Emergency First Aid

Ages: 15 & up

Through a blended learning of online tutorials plus hands-on training and practice, this 8-hour basic first aid course will give you the confidence to respond to respiration and circulation emergencies, including asthma, allergic reactions, heart attack, stroke and bleeding. Must complete online portion prior to classroom session. Certification valid for 3 years.

Online Module: 4 hours at your own pace, complete by January 10. Saturday January 11 from 8:30am - 12:30pm $95/per person

Standard First Aid

Ages: 15 & up

Comprehensive 16-hour course offering first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR-C) skills related to adult, child and infant emergencies. Includes a more in-depth understanding of common first aid emergencies. This is a required course for National Lifeguard training. Certification valid for 3 years.

Online Module: 8 hours at your own pace, complete by January 10. Saturday January 11 from 8:30am - 4:30pm $165/per person

BRONZE CROSS

ASSISTANT LIFEGUARD

This course begins the transition from lifesaving to lifeguarding and prepares candidates for responsibilities as Assistant Lifeguards. Candidates build on the skills they learned in the Medallion.

Lifesaving skills will be strengthened and expanded as they begin to apply the principles and techniques of active surveillance in aquatic facilities. * Bronze Cross emphasizes the importance of teamwork and communication in preventing and responding to aquatic emergencies. This course is required for National Lifeguard training.

For ages 13 & up.

This course will provide candidates with the knowledge, skills, attitudes and certification needed to teach the Lifesaving Society's Swim for Life and Canadian Swim Patrol programs.

NATIONAL LIFEGUARD FULL COURSE

The National Lifeguard (NL) Pool certification develops the fundamental values, judgment, knowledge, skills and fitness required by lifeguards to provide effective safety supervision in swimming pool environments. Endurance standard is a 400 metre swim within 10 minutes. Candidates must attend ALL sessions.

Prerequisite: Bronze Cross, minimum 15 years of age, Standard First Aid from recognized agency (Lifesaving Society, Canadian Red Cross, St. John Ambulance, Canadian Ski Patrol, Heart and Stroke Foundation).

Dates & Time: January 31 - February 22.

Fridays from 4:00 - 8:00pm and Saturdays from 9:00am - 5:00pm

Registration Fee: $425

Rec skate is a 4 class set of beginner skate lessons that is intended to be a feeder program to both minor hockey and the Can Skate program. Helmets and skates will be made available. This program is specifically geared towards children who have no experience skating and need assistance with learning the FUNdamentals. If your child is already registered in minor hockey or Can Skate, then they will be too advanced for this class.

Spring 3 on 3 Hockey

The Spring Hockey League will run for 7 weeks and take place 1 evening a week running from the week of April 7nd until the week of May 19th. Registration Fee includes all 7 sessions along with a league jersey and wrap up play on the final week. League Organizer will take the registrations and break them down into equal teams prior to the season starting. Volunteer Coaches are the foundation of this league and are essential to its success, if you or someone you know would like to coach, please contact Sport & Recreation Program Coordinator Alex Craig at acraig@powellriver.ca . Babysitter's Training - PRO D DAY

Ages: 11 & up

The Babysitter's Training Course is aimed at young people turning 12 years of age within the calendar year or older who want to demonstrate their capabilities by completing the course under responsible direction. The Babysitter's Training Course is loaded with special features such as: Child Development and Behavioral Problems, Safety, Handling Emergencies, Games and Play Activities, Children with Special Needs, and more. Certification is included! Remember to pack a lunch!
