What is Capacity Building? The specific goal of organizational capacity building funding is to assist non-profits in:
Capacity Building Fund About the Program The Cultural Fee for Service program was developed by The City of Red Deer to provide limited financial support to notfor-profit arts and heritage organizations in Red Deer. This program enables The City to assist those arts and heritage organizations that clearly demonstrate a financial need. The Capacity Building Fund is a separately administered fund, the purpose of which is to provide limited support to a maximum of $1000.00 on a one time per project basis upon written request from a cultural organization when opportunity or need arise. Requests should be aimed at building an organization’s capacity in terms of program and/or service provision.
Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis, dependent on available funding.
strategic investments that build the organization’s capability to offer sustainable program/services on an ongoing basis;
enhancing organizational capacity;
helping to address important issues of organizational development and effectiveness.
The funds would not be available to support immediate program or service offerings. Cultural activities are at the heart of communities – they make communities more attractive places to live, they help bring a community to life, they define a community’s unique characteristics, they attract tourists and they help communities compete economically around the world. In the words of Margaret Atwood: “The arts – as we have come to term them – are not a frill. They are at the heart of the matter… A society without the arts would have broken its mirror and cut out its heart. It would no longer be what we now recognize as human.” Canada Council for the Arts
Capacity building grants focus on the following: Mission, Vision & Strategy: Strategic Planning Organizational assessment/ development Business planning sponsorship program development fund development plans Governance & Leadership: Board development Executive transition Strategic Relationships: Coalition building Positioning for merger or affiliation Collaboration and strategic restructuring Internal Operations: Human resource or volunteer management Financial Management, sustainability development Program development planning Emergency/Crisis situations
