Our camps section offers a wealth of recreational and cultural pursuits for your children during the summer. It’s easy to register! You can register for programs from the comfort of your home, either online or by phone, or in person at the Recreation and Collicutt Centres or the G.H. Dawe Community Centre. Teen Stroke Improvement & Fitness

NEW

This class offers a fun approach to stroke improvement for lifeguard training, or it can be an excellent alternative to the weight room. Each teen uses goal setting, aiming at improving or maintaining their stroke performance, strength and endurance as well as lifesaving support skills. Learn basic rescuer CPR skills for adults, children and infant. Red Cross PeopleSavers Youth First Aid Course PeopleSavers is a 4-level program developed by the Canadian Red Cross to teach safety awareness and first aid skills to elementary school-aged children. Participants follow the PeopleSavers character for each level through a variety of everyday situations that are potentially dangerous and they learn to check for safety, call for help, and care for an injured person. Red Cross Assistant Water Safety Instructor Covers the foundation of instructional skills, including teaching methods, learning styles, physical principles, progressions, communication, safety supervision and feedback. Candidates are evaluated during assistant teaching and through individual study assignments.

The Junior Lifeguard Club is for youth who are able to swim at least 25m (one pool length). This program is designed to let kids participate in activities similar to those of real lifeguards in a safe, fun, and controlled setting. Prerequisites: Swim Kids 4.

Lifesaving Society Canadian Swim Patrol The Canadian Swim Patrol program provides enriched training for those who are ready to go beyond learn-to-swim. Swim Patrol’s three levels – Rookie, Ranger, and Star – continue to develop participants’ swim strokes and provide the skill foundation that prepares them for success in the Lifesaving Society’s Bronze Medal awards. Red Cross Swim Strokes assists teens and adults with the development of one or more swimming strokes, working toward proficiency and increased endurance. Participate in 45 minutes of instruction and 15 minutes to practice your new skills on your own. Prerequisites: Participants must be able to swim front crawl at least 15 metres continuously, arms recovering above the water: and back swim 5 metres continuously.

SUMMER CAMPS Splash Central School’s out and summer is finally here! What’s more fun than spending your free time at the pool? Come get active and energized while gaining valuable water skills in the Waterpark. Participants will be guided through a variety of aquatic-based experiences including water games, safety sessions, swimming skills and snorkeling fun, just to name a few. Red Cross Swim Preschool – Parented (Ages 4-36mos)

These introductory preschool classes are designed to include active participation of a parent or caregiver. The instructors will provide different methods for you and your child to experience buoyancy, movement and safe entries, while singing songs and playing in the water. The first three levels, Starfish (4–12 months), Duck (12–24 months), and Sea Turtle (24–36 months) focus on water orientation and water safety. Program levels maybe combined to offer participants greater flexibility in selecting classes.

Red Cross Swim Preschool – Unparented (Ages 3-5yrs) Come and join a non-parented preschool lesson designed to be fun, using lots of songs, games, and themes. The last five levels for ages 3 to 5, Sea Otter, Salamander, Sunfish, Crocodile, and Whale, build swimming skills and teach age-specific water safety. This program is designed to appeal to preschool children through games and activities that engage their imagination while they learn skills and increase their knowledge. Program levels maybe combined to offer participants greater flexibility in selecting classes.

Red Cross Swim Kids – 10 level program

AQUATICS

The City of Red Deer offers the Red Cross Swim Kids Programs for children ages 6 and up. Help your child develop a healthy lifestyle through swimming. Your child will learn to swim and stay safe in a fun environment that promotes a personal best and celebrates individual success. The 10 levels allow for solid progression. Children learn competitive and survival strokes, and builds their distance and speed, while focusing on making safe decisions in, on and around the water. In each level, participants are evaluated based on performance criteria and progress to the next level once all criteria have been successfully completed.

Private Swim Lessons

Learn to swim with your very own instructor. Private lessons are an excellent opportunity for individuals to customize their swim instruction by focusing on specific swimming skills or work towards your Red Cross Swim badge. Any age or swimming skill is welcome. Register a sibling or friend in your private lesson and pay only $75.00 for the additional participant. CAMPS Red Deer Synchronized Swim Club – Summer Camp Try an Olympic Sport! Great transition for new or recreation swimmers looking to move into the competitive program. If you like the water, here’s a great way to enjoy it while making new friends! There are opportunities to participate together as well as in separate groups, depending on previous experience. The camp includes three hours per day in the pool plus gymnastics, dryland training, nutrition, games, stretching and dance. Half Day camp is pool time only. Must be able to swim 25m unassisted for full and half day camps. Aquasquirts is an aquatic development program intended for younger swimmers to learn basic swimming and synchro skills through purposeful play. Central Alberta AIDS Network Society (CAANS) CAANS is the local charity that offers support to individuals who are infected or affected by HIV/ AIDS and provides prevention, harm reduction and education throughout Central Alberta. CAANS runs three support groups: 1)Next Step is a peer support group for current and former drug users. Next Step’s goal is to build the capacity of people who use drugs and to educate and advocate within the larger community on issues related to drug use and addictions. 2) Keeping Connected is an informal peer support group for people living with HIV/AIDS. It is a social network for individuals living with HIV to share their lived experiences, provide support to others facing similar challenges and to make social connections in the community. 3) Queer Coffee – Gay~Lesbian~Bisexual~Trans~Queer~Allies – runs at 7pm on the first Wednesday of each month.
