Leashed, Licensed, Loved
We get it; your dog likes to run, play catch, and be with other dogs. That's why the City of Shoreline has three o -leash dog areas and is adding two more! Go to shorelinewa.gov/parks to learn more about them.
However, if you aren't in one of our o -leash dog areas, then the law requires that your dog be leashed. While in a park, around the city, or in your neighborhood, all dogs are required to be on a leash.
Why leash your dogs?
•It keeps your dog and other dogs and animals safe.
It's It
•It's courteous to other park users – not everyone feels comfortable around dogs, including other dogs.
It's the law and you could be ned – $25 for the rst violation and $50 for each violation thereafter within a year.

“Weldon Butler is an African American printmaker and sculptor who has an extensive background of gallery and museum shows but who, like many minority artists, has not received the recognition he deserves. Born in Philadelphia, Butler joined his brother in Tacoma in 1968 where he went on to attend Green River College and studied printmaking and sculpture. While making his art, Butler worked as a Boeing toolmaker, a mapmaker, an auto shop repairman and a commercial silkscreen technician, all of which had an impact on the look of his art. Declaring, “When I need color, I go to Home Depot. I have a vocabulary of shapes, not a palette of colors, like a painter.” Butler uses color more felicitously and to undermine a sense of deep space or volume. Butler’s works on paper re ect the look of twodimensional art made by sculptors: diagrammatic, linear, spatial, and using rough, street-found, or hardware-store materials.” -Matthew Kangas, 2018 from Visual Art Source

The coal mining town of Melmont was mostly abandoned by the 1920’s and much of it was destroyed by a re, but there are lots of remnants for us to explore along the 4 mile out and back hike through the forest and along the Carbon River. Although this hike is has very little elevation gain, it has a steep hill to access the trailhead and the trail is muddy. Because of this, we have rated the hike moderate and recommend participants wear hiking boots and bring walking poles for slippery ground. Bring a sack lunch to eat either along the trail or on the drive back. Transportation and trip leader provided.
