Full Moon Hike

Dates: March 18 Ages 18+ (Children welcome with accompanying adult) Time: 8:30 PM – 9:30 PM Location: Lone Star Lakes Park Cost: $5 Enjoy this 2-mile hike illuminated by the light of the full moon. We’ll also highlight the nocturnal wildlife we encounter along the way on our nighttime adventure. Dress warmly; flashlights will be provided.

Great Backyard Bird Count

Date: February 19 Ages: 18+ (Children welcome with accompanying adult) Location: Driver Time: 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM Cost: Free Join birdwatchers all around the world to count and report details of birds in the area in which they live. Suffolk Parks & Recreation will be participating in this event and counting birds found at the site of the former Driver Naval Radio Transmitting Facility. Bring your binoculars and spotting scopes if you have some. We will also have a limited supply available for use.

Archery Clinic

Dates: April 11, 13, 15 Ages: 7 – 11 (9:00 AM – 11:00 AM); 12 – 17 (1:00 PM – 3:00 PM) Location: Sleepy Hole Park Cost: $65 Would you like to learn archery? Now’s your chance! Take your mind off school and zone in on a different type of target. Bows, arrows, and arm guards will be provided. Participants should wear woods and weather appropriate clothing (including long pants and closed- toe shoes). Bring a water bottle.

Celebrating Black Joy in the Outdoors

Date: February 5 - 26 Ages: All Time: TBD Location: TBD Join us in celebrating Black History Month by finding solace and adventure in the outdoors. Suffolk Parks & Recreation is offering several free, outdoor gatherings once a week, bringing together a community to celebrate and inspire Black Joy in the Outdoors. Outdoor Adventures- Field Trips

You can discover an abundance of adventure in the Great Outdoors here in Suffolk! Our hands-on educational/ recreational programs can include activities such as hiking, canoeing, kayaking, archery, and wildlife viewing at venues such as Sleepy Hole, Bennet’s Creek, Lone Star Lakes, and Lake Meade Parks. Our park programs will provide unforgettable outdoor experiences and activities that are sure to captivate participants of all ages. SPECIAL EVENTS

Senior Sweetheart Ball

Date: Wednesday, February 9 Cost: $10 Time: 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM Location: Hilton Garden Inn Suffolk Riverfront We cordially invite all active adults to dress in your Valentine’s best and enjoy an afternoon of dining and dancing. Registration is required. Guests will enjoy dancing, games, door prizes, a photo booth and a great time with friends.

Eggstravaganza

Date: April 9 Cost: Free Time: 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM Location: Bennett’s Creek Park Ages: All Our event, filled with games, pony rides, crafts, music and more, is geared towards families with children 10 years old and under. Kids can decorate bags to stash the eggs they collect throughout the scavenger hunt. Peter Cottontail will arrive to this egg-citing event at 11:15 AM. Vendor items will be available for purchase in the Park.

T-Ball

Registration: January 18 - March 1 Time: 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM Cost: $30 Ages:4-7 Location: Peanut Park T-Ball is an excellent opportunity for baseball beginners. Practice starts the week of March 21, and games begin April 2. This is an 8week league.

Fall Adult Softball

Registration: February 15 - March 15 Cost: $350 per team Ages:18 + Location: John F. Kenneddy Athletic Field and Peanut Park This is an 8week League, with 2 games per week. Games will be played on Friday nights, and will begin April 1. Make up games are scheduled to be played on Tuesday nights. A tournament will be held after the regular season. Registration must be completed at the Suffolk Parks & Recreation Administration building located at 134 S. 6th Street.
