About the Mare Island Bridge If you work or live nearby Mare Island, then you’ve probably crossed this bridge. The Mare Island Causeway Bridge is located at the north end of the Vallejo Waterfront. This bridge connects Mare Island to the Greater Vallejo area and is accessible to vehicles, pedestrian, and rail traffic.

THE BRIDGE AT A GLANCE: 165 feet long and 48.5 feet wide

Minimum Clearance (span down) 12.4 feet

Maximum Clearance (span fully raised) 99.7 feet

WHAT’S HAPPENING ON THE BRIDGE?

THESE REPAIRS ARE EXPECTED TO INCLUDE:

In 2016, the City of Vallejo completed an upgrade project on the bridge, replacing a 50-foot span of bridge timber with steel. However, the iconic bridge now requires additional maintenance repairs to extend the Bridge’s serviceable life and improve pedestrian and driver safety.

Bridge deck and pile repairs

Repairing damaged concrete surfaces

Sidewalk replacement and ADA improvements

Repairing the fender system that directs ships through the correct opening under the bridge

Lighting and handrail repairs

Replacement of underwater anodes which protect the bridge’s steel against saltwater corrosion

Repainting the Bridge’s steel lift span, towers, and historic logo

HOW WILL THIS PROJECT IMPACT ME? The City anticipates that when construction begins, the bridge may experience partial lane closures.
