Police Townhall Meeting 8/8/23

Vallejo residents packed the townhall meeting to discuss proposed changes to alarm calls for service due to low staffing. Police Chief Jason Ta, Deputy Chief Joseph Gomez and Public Information Officer Sgt. Rashad Hollis carefully listened to the community’s input on the calls and will assess how to handle fake alarms versus verified response to alarm calls. Many community members thanked the Police Department for its hard work and commitment to improving public safety and rallied to “work together” to solve the challenges.

HUMANE SOCIETY PET OF THE WEEK

Labrador Retriever/Shepherd, male, age 3

Meet Bobby! This tall, handsome charmer has big brown eyes and a soft beautiful blond coat. He loves hanging out with people and clowning around with other doggos. Bobby’s favorite activities include playing fetch and romping with his canine pals in the play yard. Bobby’s leash manners are always improving and he enjoys going for long, explorative walks. He is a strong boy who will need an equally strong, confident handler in case he sees something fun to chase—like a squirrel! What he wants more than anything is a home and family of his own. Bobby is highly affectionate and we believe he will make a deeply loyal family companion. If you’d like to make Bobby’s dream come true, visit HSNB.org to fill out our dog adoption interest application.

For a list of our available cats and dogs, go to HSNB.org and click on the Adoptions tab. We welcome potential adopters to browse available animals on our website and if interested, download an application. Email cat applications to catadoptions@hsnb.org and dog applications to adoptions@hsnb.org. Pets are available at time of article submission. We cannot guarantee they will be available upon publication. Humane Society of the North Bay is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. We are located at 1121 Sonoma Blvd., Vallejo. We are open by appointment, from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily, with up to two Open Shelter Saturdays per month. We are actively seeking fosters for our pets in need, and we are always seeking donations to help us do the lifesaving work we do.

HUMANE SOCIETY PET OF THE WEEK

WARREN

Hound (Unknown Type), male, age 2

This is Warren! He is a playful, affectionate hound mix and an all-around happy guy. His facial expressions range from serious to comical, and when he’s got his ears up it looks like he could take flight! Unfortunately, because his tail was so long and he is such an exuberant guy, he got “Happy Tail Syndrome,” which resulted in a damaged tip that had to be surgically removed. But his docked tail is adorable and still super waggy! Warren is an athletic dog who needs an active lifestyle. Because of his exuberance, he might accidentally knock over little kids so he’d probably do best in a home with teens and adults. To meet Warren, go to HSNB.org and fill out our dog adoption interest application.

Volunteer Opportunities at Levi Stadium

Home of the San Francisco 49ers

The Coach Sarna League is a 501(c)(3) public non-profit that is dedicated to bringing families together, strengthening relationships, and building new ones. They teach players football fundamentals, build STEM skills through their Lego STEM leagues, and open up safe and competitive environments for all ages and genders to play non-contact football. The league is named in honor of longtime local coach, athletic director, and Notre Dame football player Ed “Coach” Sarna.

In 2022, they were nominated by NFL FLAG as one of the top new leagues in the nation out of approximately 700 other leagues. In 2023, they were nominated for the League of the Year Award, as well as the Community-Based League of the Year Award. The Coach Sarna League was honored to be selected as a guest speaker at the 2023 Annual NFL FLAG Conference in Atlanta, GA to discuss the rapid success of our league.

Their mission is that anyone who wants to play ball, will indeed play whether they can afford it or not. They have never turned a child away due to financial hardships and their goal is to never do so.

They offer scholarships to every child, K-12th, who needs one and currently have partnered with Shelter Inc. to provide scholarships to any unhoused families in the area who wish to participate.

The Coach Sarna League is proud to announce that they have now given out over $60,000 in registration scholarships since the Fall of 2021. None of this would be possible without fundraising efforts from families, friends, and supporters.

Join them in a new and exciting way to give back to the community. Volunteer at the beautiful Levi Stadium! This is a fun and engaging way to show your support for The Coach Sarna League while enjoying the electric atmosphere of professional soccer games; big-name performer concerts such as Beyoncé, Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran; and of course, The San Fransisco 49er NFL Football Games.

For each volunteer, Levi Stadium will donate directly to the league, thus providing scholarship opportunities to local families. Come and have a blast while positively impacting your local community!
